most nurses I know are not very nice people (not necessarily at work, just in general). a lot of people seem to share that experience too. I've encountered maybe 2 or 3 nice nurses when I was a patient. Idk I feel like it's too much of a coincidence ya know?

The nurses complaining at the hospital makes the hospital look bad. they have to remember that they are representing the company at work. it may also make future patients feel uncomfortable coming in. i think its differnt if they did it at their house, but its at their WORK. i got things i dont like about my job, but aint no way imma make that type of video. also birth is so hard. its difficult to remember all of these details when you are in so much pain.

Them sharing the cons of their job won’t change the treatment you receive in hospitals, now they just won’t make videos about it, but they’ll still feel how they feel about you.
And there was a follow up from many women, some who lost children. Some were traumatized and remembered a couple of them. It was WAY beyond them Making that . Could you imagine being treated badly. As your baby passes, THEN seeing thisv??? Darn straight they needed to be fired.

I remember seeing those nurse "icks" before, and I don't even have tiktok. For them to say that on a public platform about women who had JUST given BIRTH...is beyond infuriating. No one wants to be in a hospital relying on the sympathy of the staff, to then hear that they were such a burden to them for asking questions and asking for help. That is literally a nurse's job. To assist in taking care of the patient. It just shows how rude people are no matter the profession and no matter how much money they are making. Those women DESERVED to lose their jobs and this should be a lesson to anyone else, especially in a medical field, to re-evaluate why they chose that job to begin with.
Absolutely. I get that there’s elements of a job that are unpleasant, absolutely, nothing is ever 100% enjoyable. But in a profession like nursing, where people have no choice but be vulnerable around you, you NEED to be on your best behavior and summon as much professionalism as possible. You are allowed to have feelings, but be an adult and keep that crap to yourself. Don’t make people have to hesitate in asking for help because they’re scared they’re going to be stuck with a nurse who secretly hates them and will not provide them adequate care.
These nurses are allowed to feel the way they expressed themselves on the TikTok. The issue was posting it for the entire world to see. They could complain about the trials and tribulations of their job amongst themselves during break, or even better discuss the things that bother them with a therapist or loved one. But nurses need to realize that their job requires bedside manner and it's not just about knowing a lot of technical skills
I work in Healthcare, I will say, many doctors and nurses have those jobs not always because they love what they do or care for others, some are literally there for the pay and benefits. With that said, yes people get annoyed by patients asking this or that or other issues, but filming it and posting it online was too far. I wouldn't trust a nurse or dr who publicly mocks or gossips about their patients, because logically you would also think they might do the same to you. But losing the job? Yeah I think it was a bit excessive but America is different from other countries and well, in a lawless country like mine, these nurses would have probably got sent on leave and then came back to work. So there's that. Also I'll be honest, even if many do go into those fields because of a love or passion, after a period of time, its like it sometimes become a routine and the sparks fly out and many just show up because ofresponsibilities. Doesn't make them bad, its just that people tend to get tired of stuff over time. But thats just my input.

Girl I 100% agree about the nurses. I've been dealing with a car accident this past year and have dealt with a lot of medical professionals, and I've been so disappointed. Drs and nurses have both been horrible.
I was recently hospitalized for 10 days after a crazy emergency surgery. My nurses were wonderful. I couldn't have got through that healing without them, I'd be devastated to have this playing in my brain while I NEEDED their help so much. Trust in your healthcare worker is important. I'm so sorry you've had such bad experiences at this time. I tell you my recent hospital stay put some faith back in me for healthcare workers.

I had the same experience with nurses and doctors at my local emergency room while I was having a seizure. My boyfriend told me when I was unconscious, he had to curse them out, because they kept leaving the room, letting me lay there and just seize. I was 🤬
As a Birth Doula, some of my clients were not first time moms, who wanted extra support because they felt the hostility of the medical staff during previous birth experiences. I hate to hear these stories but, I'm happy I choose to be there for them. It's my honor every time a family chooses me to be a part of their sacred event. I'll never take that for granted. Shame on them! 😡
When I had my children, doulas weren't widely available (thankfully, the nurses were great), but I think it's wonderful that they are now. You guys are so awesome and supportive during a potentially scary and overwhelming period in a woman's life, especially if it's their first time.

Some of the RUDEST people I've ever had to work with were fellow flight attendants. Like bruh, clearly you hate people. This job does not pay enough for you to wake up in the morning THIS bitter about life only to take it out on people who've done nothing to you and still leave work bitter at night. Absolutely not. That being said, I've met and worked with excellent people there. Unfortunately, it was not the norm.
Wow. This made me even more appreciative of the wonderful nurses in my delivery room. Especially one, a sweet older aged nurse. She noticed I didn’t have a mom and really just gave me that motherly energy I needed. She even held my hand and after a 3 day labor and birth, she kissed me on the cheek and said “I’ve delivered over 50 babies, but you are one of two women who smiled as they pushed. I think one reason I smiled is because I was just over joyed to finally meet my son. The other reason was that an angel sent me a mom that night when I needed one. Honestly if I had a nurse like in this video.. I might not have smiled ..who knows. Nurses can impact us forever greatly or negatively. They don’t deserve the same title that my nurse had, sorry not sorry.

Fun story about that Emory Midtown Labor and Delivery Department. A friend of mine was a high risk pregnancy with twins. She went there twice, once for quickening and the second for actual labour. Both times i was with her, the staff was dismissive as hell and standoffish, and the vibe of the department was similar to a detention center towards families. Needless to say, she wanted to be there as sparingly as possible. This was maybe a few months before that ick vid dropped, so i imagine its the same staff. Those nurses are some losers.
Gross negligence: a level of carelessness that involves a conscious disregard for the safety and health of others. It's more extreme than ordinary negligence.
I made the mistake of making Snapchat rants YEARS ago, back when I got my first job and got confronted by my manager at the time, the day after. That single experience was enough to make me keep my rants and musings off social media. If I do make an online rant, Im definitely not doing it on a social media with my face plastered on it

I didnt really have anyone added other than my best friends(who were my HS friends), so the assumption was that either of them was showing it to people, either being messy, or because they thought it was funny. I just know that after that single confrontation, any rants I did have were never about work, and then I eventually stopped them altogether because I was over social media(and still am. My social media presence is nonexistent after HS, and I'm 24 now. So yeah)
That man was speaking as if those women didn't willingly post that tiktok AT WORK About the same JOB they're doing in present day, you can talk all the insensitive and more than crude things about work with your family or when you're no longer working with said job. It's not that hard, would it have been different if they posted all those remarks on a billboard with their job/work place area in full view in the background of these remarks?

As someone who’s been in & out of hospital every year since I was ab 13, there def be heaps of neglectful n unprofessional nurses n doctors in the field, last year had to end up goin into a whole legal situation w the big board of healthcare in my country bc of 2 specific doctors being neglectful, ignoring my input/experience and still giving me two treatment types that I said cause me a lot of issues.. coz it ended up causing a lot of health problems like I said it would. And then the nurses being irresponsible and neglectful when I was tryna communicate that sumn was wrong , talking ab me in the nurses office for ig asking for too much help etc
There were growing concerns there after a while. Cause now it’s like okay .. people’s lives are at risk & you dancing instead of tending to your patients. But that should’ve been taken more serious & nipped in the bud cause then that led to doctors recording WHILE doing procedures now 🤦🏾♀️
The nurse video was pretty bad. You never wanna go to the doctors and think anyone’s judging you. It’s hard enough to go there as it is and to have anything medical done or be even talking about medicine or medical needs is a very uncomfortable situation. Those nurses lack professionalism, and I wouldn’t trust them as employer any longer. No one will be playing with my life like that.

One thing boyo might not be aware of is those nurses were liable for an infant death. A two-week suspension for neglect and patient abuse doesn't cut it when people die.
I think people are really forgetting if these nurses are acting like this. Guaranteed that the quality of service that they're giving to these patients are trash in their most vulnerable moments. HIPAA laws or not. We as nurses go to school and learn about ethics and the way we should treat patients and clients the empathy we need to have and leaving our biases at the door. I was right there with you with those Emory nurses posting about their icks while working with women in delivery and labour. Of ALL the patients nurses deal with, those are the ones who are so vulnerable and the last thing they need is to be made to feel like their need for comfort and safety is one of these nurses' "icks". I used to work in a private school and they had a dress code, a code of conduct, and a social media policy. All businesses should have some form of these things so employees know how they are expected to conduct themselves in the office and online. Furthermore just for personal safety reasons it's just not a good idea to put your face out there. Ppl are way too comfortable!
The nurses got me up the WALL 😡 as someone who somewhat recently gave birth to my FIRST (two yrs now but I'm still mad) and had a terrible experience with my nurse. There were two actually, the head nurse and a student. I saw the head nurse all but maybe 5 minutes of my 3 day postpartum stay(this was only a few hrs after birth that it happened, though). I remember the poor student did her best to help and be there for me, but just didnt have the experience to help in many aspects(latching, didnt have answers to questions, etc) and at one point she tells me she'll go get the other nurse to help...she didn't close the door behind her so I get to hear her ask for her superior's assistance and the head nurse had the nerve to say "I'm not the mid-wife and I've sent a message to the mother's mid-wife already. I'm not going back in there tonight, I don't know what else you want from me."...🤬 if I were to find out I had Tik Tok's made of me for being a first time parent with questions; needing assistance from my HEAD nurse?! Aw nah, somebody better be losing their job.
I'm so sorry you went through this. I had an evil nurse for my first birth... it completely ruined the experience and caused me physical harm. I don't think people realize how bad medical staff can mess with your head.

The one with the nurses is honestly really, really upsetting. Out of all the scenarios, people need to feel the safest in a hospital situation, and not scared that a healthcare provider will go on to laugh about something that should be totally private. What if seeing videos like these cause even one person to feel uncomfortable to go to the hospital when they might need it? It's absolutely so not ok. And it's also not fair to nurses who work so hard and remain absolutely professional to have other nurses make their profession look bad. My mom's a doctor, she HATES sh8t like this. There's just no excuse for it.

My bestie is a young single mother, I was the one with her when she gave birth- I’ve never given birth either, and both of us don’t have family, so we both had so many questions for the nurses and asked them to come help when my friend couldn’t nurse, etc. My friend also had a complicated birth and the babies were high risk (she had twins). Thankfully our nurses were really kind and supportive, because this was an extremely stressful day. I can’t even imagine if we had those terrible nurses. It’s so disgusting that they’re talking badly about the mother when it’s the most vulnerable day of her life!

Emory is well known for its medical school and hospital so for an entire unit of nurses to put that tiktok out that’ll only make future patients uncomfortable and not want to go there is reason enough to fire them. Also, Georgia is a state where legally they don’t have to give a reason to terminate you and can do it at anytime so long as it doesn’t violate civil rights and discrimination laws.

Nurses like those are one of the biggest reasons why I’m so hesitant to give birth in a hospital. The last thing I need while giving birth is to relive elementary and middle school with mean girl nurses.
I worked in a hospital as a patient transporter for two years, and the nurses are two types. Either amazing, caring, passionate people or mean girl bullies.
The nurses really brought up past traumas for me. Especially in labor & delivery. My previous pregnancy really shed light on why you need advocacy in the hospital because I expressed that I was at risk for uterine rupture. The nurse literally argued with me and said "you can give birth naturally like everyone else" and literally rolled her eyes. I was in excruciating pain and asked for help numerous times. Mind you, I had a scheduled c-section, but went into labor 24 hours before. Long story short, my uterus ruptured, and I literally could have died if my baby's head wasn't plugging the hole. Sorry for the rant, but that tiktok really churned my gears. Disclaimer: this has not been my experience with all nurses. My best friend is a traveling nurse, my mom and mother-in-law are both nurses. My sister is a nurse. But the bad apples I've come across? I can't wrap my head around it.
One of my coworkers posted stuff that our student said, I think maybe even a screenshot of something, I remember thinking how lucky she is the admin didn't know about it. Also had a coworker get called into an investigative meeting with HR / the board because of a comment on a post regarding a school. Luckily he wasn't found to be in the wrong but they did ask he delete the comment
People are just dumb. They're mad because they are being inappropriate at work by being on your personal device, mostly on the clock, griping about their place of work in the work place...and they're mad? Don't bite the hand that feeds you! Those nurses deserved termination. It's not the responsibility of your employer to teach you how to be an adult. If those nurses had been suspended, made to take sensitivity training, etc., it would have been a COURTESY them by their employer. Oh, and you're not entitled to a pass because you stayed late, skipped your lunch break, show up every day...
That last one reminds me of a time I was in an extremely important large international meeting, camera off but mic accidentally left on. A few minutes in, a coworker messaged me reminding me it was on. By the grace of God I did not do anything weird. I'm constantly talking to myself, singing to myself.. so idk why I was silent then, but I am always grateful for that😅
Thankfully the nurses that have looked after me at hospital when I was feeling my worst were caring and empathetic. I was scared, in pain and sick. They comforted me, distracted me and asked me questions while trying to put a cannula in (I had difficult veins). I’ve witnessed the opposite in other cases too but wanted to share a good experience I’ve had.
That guy was weird. He came across as someone who's messy at work and on socials and doesn't think others should be held accountable for it because it means he'll have to change his ways or face the consequences of his own actions. He know good and well 1-2 wk paid suspension and sensitivity training won't change a damn thing. I so agree that many nurses now are lacking empathy, in fact when I had a obgyn appointment after many years due to being uncomfortable by medical staff (had a lump which scared me) the doctor was amazing and kind but the nurse was rolling her eyes and stuff at me because I was uncomfortable and tensing up, it made me feel so horrible that I never want to get checked out ever again. Weirdly it's been the nurses that deal with woman's health but never the ones that are for my general check ups or dermatologist.
First of all there is a shortage of nurses so they’ll find another job. But what they did was unforgivable. They were on the job, in their scrubs talking about their patients. Now I’m not dumb enough to think that they don’t blow off steam about “problem” patients but do it in private where no one can hear. My nurses in maternity were awesome but I would be so upset if they were in this.
I knew of a place that would check the internet before they called someone for an interview. There was one Qualified, & HR checked their FACEBOOK, & thought they complained too much. ( I worked in the HR department. I was just an administrative assistant there. I just got to witness a lot;) So they didn't call for the interview. It's crazy. Please be careful.
The problem with firing these nurses this quick without any second chances potentially introducing them into a life of crime is that other nurses will learn from this and instead be brooding inside instead of letting it out. They think by firing these nurses they are setting an example, but now you do not know which nurses to avoid since the message is out that you are not allowed to brood about your job thus creating an even more toxic work environment.

I truly agree with the guy. Honestly, I know that its insensitive but sometimes when you work jobs where things are repetitive to you it makes you see that thing as just a job (former call centre worker here so I know what that’s like). It’s easy to say they should be fired but these women, did something wrong and insensitive in one video one time. Years of studying and practice and one mistake really depletes you from your livelihood is quite extreme.
I understand the reality is that employers break the law all the time with no repercussions, but employees have protections in place that allow for criticizing the workplace on social media. Ideally, people should not be afraid to post negative things about their workplace. There are fewer protections for posting while on the clock, but if the content is appropriate, I feel it's vindictive for an employer to fire someone for filming during downtime.

Patients will feel judged, paranoid and maybe will hold back on their needs so they do not do the "icks" mentioned. So, I was complaining about my boss... no names, no reference to where I worked, I didn't even use bad language... and one of my "friends" printed the entire discussion and handed it to my third level supervisor. Fortunately for me, since they couldn't prove that was my account, nothing came of it but you can bet your ass I removed most of those people from my friends list. I know who did it though and I'm still angry about it. What was she trying to accomplish? I had no idea someone disliked me enough to try to get me fired. Or she thought this would somehow ingratiate herself with management? Asshole.
I can’t believe how ignorant some of these people are. The one who called her agency “bald headed b*$€es” lacks common sense. I wish her luck in the future. Those nurses sharing their patient experiences in the maternity ward. Firing was too much, training on dignity, respect and professionalism was needed. Maybe a suspension, but firing!! Regarding the ick video, I agree with the guy. I work in customer service related to some healthcare. It’s unfortunate but in this field, there is no work life balance Nurses in particular are on the job at minimum 12hrs while having to do double time depending on where they work. Keeping staffing levels so low, while requiring one individual to handle more patients than is safe. A patient is a patient for a reason. They are demanding because they are hurt and scared. But just as many are entitled assholes. Nurses are overwhelmed, overworked, tired, and still have to present as compassionate and have great bedside manners. That’s hard when extremely stressed. I look at the ick video as them releasing stress. It was in terrible taste. It was dumb to do in a work setting. They deserved to be on administrative leave with no pay for like a month. But not fired. There is a nurse shortage for a reason. No one is really fighting to go into medicine or nursing in waves for the last 7ish years for a reason. The decline in enrollment is real. All that’s left is stressed nurses with bad attitudes and newer nurses with good attitudes, but incompetent.
Let’s not pretend like employers haven’t been firing people for way less offenses long before social media became another reason. As a nurse, we all have our things that we "didn't sign up for" or "give us the ick" but that's best discussed with your coworkers & not with the whole internet. People can not get upset that these nurses lost their livelihood due to these videos BECAUSE there are numerous social media policy contracts that you sign at these jobs and the most common part on all of them is not accessing social media while on company time. So it isn't like they didn't know. A lot of places have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to that. The facilities look at it as not only being unprofessional but it also gives the company a bad name. I've been a nurse for 20yrs and I do everything I can to protect my license. I'm not gonna lose it offa social media. If I can think like that, so can these other nurses.

I remember seeing those nurse "icks" before, and I don't even have tiktok. For them to say that on a public platform about women who had JUST given BIRTH...is beyond infuriating. No one wants to be in a hospital relying on the sympathy of the staff, to then hear that they were such a burden to them for asking questions and asking for help. That is literally a nurse's job. To assist in taking care of the patient. It just shows how rude people are no matter the profession and no matter how much money they are making. Those women DESERVED to lose their jobs and this should be a lesson to anyone else, especially in a medical field, to re-evaluate why they chose that job to begin with.
Absolutely. I get that there’s elements of a job that are unpleasant, absolutely, nothing is ever 100% enjoyable. But in a profession like nursing, where people have no choice but be vulnerable around you, you NEED to be on your best behavior and summon as much professionalism as possible. These nurses are allowed to feel the way they expressed themselves on the TikTok. The issue was posting it for the entire world to see. They could complain about the trials and tribulations of their job amongst themselves during break, or even better discuss the things that bother them with a therapist or loved one. But nurses need to realize that their job requires bedside manner and it's not just about knowing a lot of technical skills
I work in Healthcare, I will say, many doctors and nurses have those jobs not always because they love what they do or care for others, some are literally there for the pay and benefits. With that said, yes people get annoyed by patients asking this or that or other issues, but filming it and posting it online was too far. I wouldn't trust a nurse or dr who publicly mocks or gossips about their patients, because logically you would also think they might do the same to you. But losing the job? Yeah I think it was a bit excessive but America is different from other countries and well, in a lawless country like mine, these nurses would have probably got sent on leave and then came back to work. So there's that.
Also I'll be honest, even if many do go into those fields because of a love or passion, after a period of time, its like it sometimes become a routine and the sparks fly out and many just show up because ofresponsibilities. Doesn't make them bad, its just that people tend to get tired of stuff over time. But thats just my input.

I couldn't have got through that healing without them, I'd be devastated to have this playing in my brain while I NEEDED their help so much. Trust in your healthcare worker is important. I'm so sorry you've had such bad experiences at this time. I tell you my recent hospital stay put some faith back in me for healthcare workers.

I had the same experience with nurses and doctors at my local emergency room while I was having a seizure. My boyfriend told me when I was unconscious, he had to curse them out, because they kept leaving the room, letting me lay there and just seize. I was 🤬
As a Birth Doula, some of my clients were not first time moms, who wanted extra support because they felt the hostility of the medical staff during previous birth experiences. I hate to hear these stories but, I'm happy I choose to be there for them. It's my honor every time a family chooses me to be a part of their sacred event. I'll never take that for granted. Shame on them! 😡

Wow. This made me even more appreciative of the wonderful nurses in my delivery room. Especially one, a sweet older aged nurse. She noticed I didn’t have a mom and really just gave me that motherly energy I needed. She even held my hand and after a 3 day labor and birth, she kissed me on the cheek and said “I’ve delivered over 50 babies, but you are one of two women who smiled as they pushed. I think one reason I smiled is because I was just over joyed to finally meet my son. The other reason was that an angel sent me a mom that night when I needed one.
Honestly if I had a nurse like in this video.. I might not have smiled ..who knows. Nurses can impact us forever greatly or negatively. They don’t deserve the same title that my nurse had, sorry not sorry.

Fun story about that Emory Midtown Labor and Delivery Department. A friend of mine was a high risk pregnancy with twins. She went there twice, once for quickening and the second for actual labour. Both times i was with her, the staff was dismissive as hell and standoffish, and the vibe of the department was similar to a detention center towards families. Needless to say, she wanted to be there as sparingly as possible. This was maybe a few months before that ick vid dropped, so i imagine its the same staff. Those nurses are some losers.
Gross negligence: a level of carelessness that involves a conscious disregard for the safety and health of others. It's more extreme than ordinary negligence.
I made the mistake of making Snapchat rants YEARS ago, back when I got my first job and got confronted by my manager at the time, the day after. That single experience was enough to make me keep my rants and musings off social media. If I do make an online rant, Im definitely not doing it on a social media with my face plastered on it

I didnt really have anyone added other than my best friends(who were my HS friends), so the assumption was that either of them was showing it to people, either being messy, or because they thought it was funny. I just know that after that single confrontation, any rants I did have were never about work, and then I eventually stopped them altogether because I was over social media(and still am. My social media presence is nonexistent after HS, and I'm 24 now. So yeah)

As someone who’s been in & out of hospital every year since I was ab 13, there def be heaps of neglectful n unprofessional nurses n doctors in the field, last year had to end up goin into a whole legal situation w the big board of healthcare in my country bc of 2 specific doctors being neglectful, ignoring my input/experience and still giving me two treatment types that I said cause me a lot of issues.. coz it ended up causing a lot of health problems like I said it would. And then the nurses being irresponsible and neglectful when I was tryna communicate that sumn was wrong , talking ab me in the nurses office for ig asking for too much help etc
There were growing concerns there after a while. Cause now it’s like okay .. people’s lives are at risk & you dancing instead of tending to your patients. But that should’ve been taken more serious & nipped in the bud cause then that led to doctors recording WHILE doing procedures now 🤦🏾♀️
The nurse video was pretty bad. You never wanna go to the doctors and think anyone’s judging you. It’s hard enough to go there as it is and to have anything medical done or be even talking about medicine or medical needs is a very uncomfortable situation. I used to work in a private school and they had a dress code, a code of conduct, and a social media policy.
All businesses should have some form of these things so employees know how they are expected to conduct themselves in the office and online.

The nurses got me up the WALL 😡 as someone who somewhat recently gave birth to my FIRST (two yrs now but I'm still mad) and had a terrible experience with my nurse. There were two actually, the head nurse and a student. I saw the head nurse all but maybe 5 minutes of my 3 day postpartum stay(this was only a few hrs after birth that it happened, though). I remember the poor student did her best to help and be there for me, but just didnt have the experience to help in many aspects(latching, didnt have answers to questions, etc) and at one point she tells me she'll go get the other nurse to help...she didn't close the door behind her so I get to hear her ask for her superior's assistance and the head nurse had the nerve to say "I'm not the mid-wife and I've sent a message to the mother's mid-wife already. I'm not going back in there tonight, I don't know what else you want from me."...🤬 if I were to find out I had Tik Tok's made of me for being a first time parent with questions; needing assistance from my HEAD nurse?! Aw nah, somebody better be losing their job.

My bestie is a young single mother, I was the one with her when she gave birth- I’ve never given birth either, and both of us don’t have family, so we both had so many questions for the nurses and asked them to come help when my friend couldn’t nurse, etc. My friend also had a complicated birth and the babies were high risk (she had twins).
Thankfully our nurses were really kind and supportive, because this was an extremely stressful day. I can’t even imagine if we had those terrible nurses. It’s so disgusting that they’re talking badly about the mother when it’s the most vulnerable day of her life!
Those Emory nurses... You share this stuff among yourselves, not on social media. I would have fired them too. It may be one mistake, but it's a big one. If I went into the maternity ward and saw one of them I would ask for another nurse. Or I just wouldn't go there at all. Bad rep for the hospital.

Nurses like those are one of the biggest reasons why I’m so hesitant to give birth in a hospital. The last thing I need while giving birth is to relive elementary and middle school with mean girl nurses.
These folks don’t think about consequences, they just do what feels good in the moment. So embarrassing
I worked in a hospital as a patient transporter for two years, and the nurses are two types. Either amazing, caring, passionate people or mean girl bullies.
The nurses really brought up past traumas for me. Especially in labor & delivery. My previous pregnancy really shed light on why you need advocacy in the hospital because I expressed that I was at risk for uterine rupture. The nurse literally argued with me and said "you can give birth naturally like everyone else" and literally rolled her eyes. I was in excruciating pain and asked for help numerous times. Mind you, I had a scheduled c-section, but went into labor 24 hours before. Long story short, my uterus ruptured, and I literally could have died if my baby's head wasn't plugging the hole. Sorry for the rant, but that tiktok really churned my gears. Disclaimer: this has not been my experience with all nurses. My best friend is a traveling nurse, my mom and mother-in-law are both nurses. My sister is a nurse. But the bad apples I've come across? I can't wrap my head around it.
One of my coworkers posted stuff that our student said, I think maybe even a screenshot of something, I remember thinking how lucky she is the admin didn't know about it. Also had a coworker get called into an investigative meeting with HR / the board because of a comment on a post regarding a school. Luckily he wasn't found to be in the wrong but they did ask he delete the comment

Those nurses deserved termination. It's not the responsibility of your employer to teach you how to be an adult. If those nurses had been suspended, made to take sensitivity training, etc., it would have been a COURTESY them by their employer.

That last one reminds me of a time I was in an extremely important large international meeting, camera off but mic accidentally left on.
A few minutes in, a coworker messaged me reminding me it was on. By the grace of God I did not do anything weird. I'm constantly talking to myself, singing to myself.. so idk why I was silent then, but I am always grateful for that😅
Thankfully the nurses that have looked after me at hospital when I was feeling my worst were caring and empathetic. I was scared, in pain and sick. They comforted me, distracted me and asked me questions while trying to put a cannula in (I had difficult veins). I’ve witnessed the opposite in other cases too but wanted to share a good experience I’ve had.

I so agree that many nurses now are lacking empathy, in fact when I had a obgyn appointment after many years due to being uncomfortable by medical staff (had a lump which scared me) the doctor was amazing and kind but the nurse was rolling her eyes and stuff at me because I was uncomfortable and tensing up, it made me feel so horrible that I never want to get checked out ever again.
Weirdly it's been the nurses that deal with woman's health but never the ones that are for my general check ups or dermatologist.
Life is expensive and It's hard enough finding a job these days and to get fired over social media 🤦🏿 🤦🏿

First of all there is a shortage of nurses so they’ll find another job. But what they did was unforgivable. They were on the job, in their scrubs talking about their patients. Now I’m not dumb enough to think that they don’t blow off steam about “problem” patients but do it in private where no one can hear. My nurses in maternity were awesome but I would be so upset if they were in this.
I knew of a place that would check the internet before they called someone for an interview.
There was one Qualified, & HR checked their FACEBOOK, & thought they complained too much. ( I worked in the HR department. I was just an administrative assistant there. I just got to witness a lot;)
So they didn't call for the interview.

The problem with firing these nurses this quick without any second chances potentially introducing them into a life of crime is that other nurses will learn from this and instead be brooding inside instead of letting it out.
They think by firing these nurses they are setting an example, but now you do not know which nurses to avoid since the message is out that you are not allowed to brood about your job thus creating an even more toxic work environment.

I truly agree with the guy. Honestly, I know that its insensitive but sometimes when you work jobs where things are repetitive to you it makes you see that thing as just a job (former call centre worker here so I know what that’s like). It’s easy to say they should be fired but these women, did something wrong and insensitive in one video one time. Years of studying and practice and one mistake really depletes you from your livelihood is quite extreme.

I understand the reality is that employers break the law all the time with no repercussions, but employees have protections in place that allow for criticizing the workplace on social media. Ideally, people should not be afraid to post negative things about their workplace.
There are fewer protections for posting while on the clock, but if the content is appropriate, I feel it's vindictive for an employer to fire someone for filming during downtime.

Patients will feel judged, paranoid and maybe will hold back on their needs so they do not do the "icks" mentioned. It is basic knowledge for any person that is in healthcare or beauty services, do not make people feel judged for what they have or do (of course with boundaries).

Back when facebook accounts didn't require your real name, I had a private account with "friends" I felt I could trust. So, I was complaining about my boss... no names, no reference to where I worked, I didn't even use bad language... and one of my "friends" printed the entire discussion and handed it to my third level supervisor. Fortunately for me, since they couldn't prove that was my account, nothing came of it but you can bet your ass I removed most of those people from my friends list. I know who did it though and I'm still angry about it. What was she trying to accomplish? I had no idea someone disliked me enough to try to get me fired. Or she thought this would somehow ingratiate herself with management? Asshole.

Regarding the ick video, I agree with the guy. I work in customer service related to some healthcare. It’s unfortunate but in this field, there is no work life balance Nurses in particular are on the job at minimum 12hrs while having to do double time depending on where they work. Keeping staffing levels so low, while requiring one individual to handle more patients than is safe. A patient is a patient for a reason. They are demanding because they are hurt and scared. But just as many are entitled assholes. Nurses are overwhelmed, overworked, tired, and still have to present as compassionate and have great bedside manners. That’s hard when extremely stressed. I look at the ick video as them releasing stress. It was in terrible taste. It was dumb to do in a work setting. They deserved to be on administrative leave with no pay for like a month. But not fired. There is a nurse shortage for a reason. No one is really fighting to go into medicine or nursing in waves for the last 7ish years for a reason. The decline in enrollment is real. All that’s left is stressed nurses with bad attitudes and newer nurses with good attitudes, but incompetent.
Let’s not pretend like employers haven’t been firing people for way less offenses long before social media became another reason. They should’ve been reprimanded, but firing is really harsh.. they were being unprofessional and insensitive, but losing your job and prob not being able to get another after it comes out all over the news. Man, WOMP, WOMP! I'm 31 and been working for over 10 years. Not using your phone on the clock or prohibiting posting things that have any alignment with your job whatsoever has always been a thing. How are grown ass adults losing their jobs over not being able to put your phone down???? It's truely baffling - especially with the lack of accountability. In one of my current jobs, I'm a trainer and just about weekly I have to tell ppl to put away their phones. The nurse who mentioned paternity test and one baby daddy going between multiple rooms was fine imo. But the rest were out of pocket. Ppl are nervous in a hospital to begin with, everyone in the delivery room is exhausted and sleep deprived, and the moms are usually on at least one type of drug to make em loopy, and also probably some level of terrified
As a nurse, we all have our things that we "didn't sign up for" or "give us the ick" but that's best discussed with your coworkers & not with the whole internet. People can not get upset that these nurses lost their livelihood due to these videos BECAUSE there are numerous social media policy contracts that you sign at these jobs and the most common part on all of them is not accessing social media while on company time. So it isn't like they didn't know. A lot of places have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to that. The facilities look at it as not only being unprofessional but it also gives the company a bad name. I've been a nurse for 20yrs and I do everything I can to protect my license. I'm not gonna lose it offa social media. If I can think like that, so can these other nurses.
