    Nicely detailed. That first tip is a life saver. Took me a while to find it on my own, but what a time saver. Scrambling to get free carriers is a pain.
    Not sure if there was a game update in between now and the video, but Specialists come in 3 flavors. 500, 700 and 900 coin. Higher price is generally better but pay attention to their skills too.
    Here's my own tip for everyone, if you haven't posted it somewhere else... Vehicles. Your specialists will come across them in the wasteland. You can jump in and drive them back to your compound, BUT before you do that you can also use them for exploring (don't seem to run out of fuel). I usually put my Scout specialist(s) in vehicles. The cool thing is, I just finish scouting an area, I jump in my closely parked vehicle, drive to the next hidden zone, get out, start scouting immediately. This is a huge exploration timesaver.
    And just in case people don't know... At the beginning of the game, rather than having your two specialists standing around waiting for the gate to get built, get them working! They can harvest wood and berries, transport materials and my favorite...actually build buildings.

      @PastHisPrime1  2 роки тому +4

      Thanks Dan. I did notice the different price on a specialist the other day. I was not aware of the different price before that.
      Your tips are great additions to mine and I would 100% agree with them. Vehicles are fantastic and are even better when you get the Garage in your Colony. Getting your specialist to collect wood and berries is also something that could have been in my 10 tips.
      Thanks for sharing your knowledge and thanks for watching.

      @@PastHisPrime1 Well the first thing was the building on fertile land, and the thing with the wells and outhouses and not being prepared for winter and such, also another thing was the specialists/settlers because I was thinking that I needed a scientific specialist for a scientific outpost and that I only put burners only near houses.
      Then I noticed that after day 40 or 50 it's more common to have a specialist with high Dmg, Scavenging or Science gathering, also that you can easily forget about the upgrades on my 80 days game I got snow, drought, and a meteor shower and forgot to upgrade my buildings this was like on day 50+, another thing it's the management of food and resources I always get a full deposit message and my food and resources got rotten and idk why if I have the storage buildings even with the upgrades.

    regarding tip number 1, the carrier stat only refers to unemployed adults. i think children are carriers by default, unless you lock them up in a school. which by the way says they turn into more experienced workers but i never see any stat saying if an adult attended school or not as a child, so i cant judge the effectiveness of schools other than thinking they dramatically reduce the number of free carriers in the colony.
    i dont think unheated buildings shut down. the only ones that do are unheated wind turbines and water collectors that get the ice crystal icon over them when this happens.

    • @PastHisPrime1
      @PastHisPrime1  7 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for sharing your knowledge of the game. I had heard the developers state that education helps the productivity of the workers but as you say I haven't seen any written evidence of that. I thought some buildings shutdown when unheated but I could be wrong. I do know that anyone working in them will get sick so it is better to heat them than not. Thanks for watching.

    A little more rambling that I usually like but a nice video. You can disable the scrolling to not send you to the world map.
    Another thing, does is matter what speciality the specialist is when you make him an outpost? I ask because I put an outpost in a zone with 30 science/12 hours and I get 40/12 and in the beginning this was not the case, I get exactly the same as the UI told me in the first place.
    Any tips on how to make credits? What is the best to produce and sell to the other society's?

    • @PastHisPrime1
      @PastHisPrime1  2 роки тому

      Thanks for the feedback on the rambling. I can do that some times. Some else told me about the scrolling and I have now disabled it but thanks anyway. I would still like to be able to zoom out some more to get a higher view of all my stuff and the world map.
      I thought that I had been given a bonus when I built a research outpost with a scientist but when I tested it recently it didn't happen, so I am not sure and are confused by that. I just use the most useless specialist in my colony now when I want an outpost. There are bonuses from the alliance and doomsday stuff that might be increasing your outposts.
      For credits I think it various for each society but generally fuel and automatic weapons are great to trade. I like to get a scavenger outpost in an automatic gun section and then start to make fuel in the mid-late game. Even if I don't want money it is great for getting almost endless free trades.

    Those are awesome tips, but I have an issue, I can't figure out how to get electric components the weird red and blue things, I've unlocked everything....any clue how you gain them?!

    • @PastHisPrime1
      @PastHisPrime1  2 роки тому

      I am not sure what you mean by red and blue things. I have components which are yellow. I have rare metals which have red and blue wires or I have electronics which look like CPUs. Unless it is something I haven't unlock yet. I believe the yellow components and electronics are made in the electronics factory. The rare metals from what I can tell can only come from the world map. I setup a scavenger outpost in a sector with a rare metals spot (gear/cog).

    I can't decide if I wanna play this or surviving mars first. what's the expansion pass even give you?

    • @PastHisPrime1
      @PastHisPrime1  2 роки тому

      I like both games so it is hard for me to recommend which one. Surviving Mars has been around a lot longer but their last update with the below and beyond really wasn't that great. It had a good concept but just failed on adding any true depth to the game.
      The expansion gives you the Written in the Stars Quest with a specialist from the quest. You are also meant to get the first 3 full expansions to the game which we don't know what they are yet. It seems that the expansion is like what other games refer to as a Season Pass. Getting the expansion is a gamble because we have no idea whether the expansions are going to be any good.
      There is one other option and that is to wait for one of the good Steam sales and get both. I got Surviving Mars really cheap and I bought Surviving the Aftermath on the early release option.

    • @chadcowman6293
      @chadcowman6293 2 роки тому +1

      @@PastHisPrime1 I'm on xbox and both base games are on sale. Mars is $11 and aftermath is $27. CAD so a little more $ here. The expansions are so expensive and it's off putting. I just don't wanna get sucked into a $20 game then $80 for expansions like stellaris lol. I love stellaris but still

    • @PastHisPrime1
      @PastHisPrime1  2 роки тому

      I am on PC so I didn't know the expansions where so expensive on xbox. The gamplay for Surviving the Aftermath on my channel is PC based but the expansion only adds a couple of little decorations and the one Quest at the moment. The main game and most of what I show in my playthroughs is the base game. Sorry I can't predict what the expansions are going to be and how much they will cost.
      I can't remember how it works with Surviving Mars because I think I bought a bundle while it was on sale. Looking in my Steam account it shows I have 12 DLCs for Mars.
      It seems to be the trend these days to get you to buy the base game cheap and then charge you lots of money ongoing as they add more content. On a positive it keeps them making new content for the games we like instead of just dumping them and working on a new game.
      Sorry I can't help you much more with your decision.

      @PastHisPrime1  2 роки тому

      I'm saying I am right. As I stated I don't play on PS4 so it could be different. I do know that there was an update not long ago where they made concrete harder to get. They wanted people to focus the early game on mostly wood, plastic and a bit of metal. By the time you would find concrete you would be later in the game. Maybe that is what is happening to you or maybe they broke the concrete mechanic on PS4 when they did that update.

      Snow storms are the only disaster you really need to account for, because it takes longer than a day to prepare for (you'll need warmth coverage over your entire colony and a surplus of firewood to last several days). As for the heatwave and plagues, they can be immediately countered by building more water wells or medical tents at the last second.
      Personally my biggest issue is pollution spreading before you can tech into the facility needed to clean it. If your colony is having pollution issues, and you don't have electricity and cement researched, you might as well restart.
