Hell yeah! Go fuckin get some! My recommendation when you get there is be careful when doing workouts and when they make you sprint during drill practice try not to stomp your feet because I had a stress fracture that later because a full fracture when I went through and got stuck there for an extra 3 months because I had to get surgery. I 100% believe it was caused just from the boots you get issued and because I wasn’t careful when I ran in them. It’s about 10% of recruits get dropped for medical reasons and they usually don’t let you go home so you just sit there and heal until you’re healed and can get back into training lol
Make the most of it and don't beat yourself up for fucking up, no matter how hard of a time DI's give you. They usually fucked up exactly the same ways when they were in recruit training.
After the Reaper it will be night and day and you'll see whatever facade they put up crumble, they'll be much nicer and far more chill. Just remember that no matter what wild shit they do to you, like IT or whatever, they're doing it because they believe you're worth making into a Marine.

Your travel comments were spot on, there a LOT of places to go cheaply from Okinawa. But you didn't mention the fantastic parks in Okinawa, the wonderful SCUBA diving, and the fantastic military resort on the northern part of the island. I was stationed on Okinawa for 5.5 years and loved every minute of it! My wife and I were just talking about going back to visit now as civilians.
Definitely gets cold in Okinawa. Light jacket or hoodie in the winter.
I’m from NYC and you’re not lying about those bugs! We went down to Kadena and we’re sitting outside in front of the USO and a 4 inch grasshopper landed on my shoulder and I just froze saying get it off me get it off me!!! My buddies being Marines just laughed at me. It finally jumped off on its own. This was in 1993 that’s how traumatized I was still remember it to this day.
So cool to see this I was raised on Okinawa my mother was Okinawaan and Father was Apache he met my mother during the war. So I was raised there and moved to the US and finished HighSchool. Now I live in Oklahoma it's nice to see this and look forward to seeing more adventures there🥰Have a wonderful day today 🐈⬛meow😺

Daughter was stationed at Camp Kinser 2012 - 2014. She said everything is concrete and metal because of earthquakes, typhoons & tsunamis. She had a cat 5 typhoon go right over the island, shortly before heading to MCAS Miramar.
Stationed at Futenma in 83-84 I enjoyed and took advantage of my time there. I brought a car and saw many places on the island. I've been watching your vlog for quite awhile my favorite was when you did the walking tour of your neighborhood. When I first got there I would walk from Futenma to Camp Foster on the weekend than someone was rotating and I brought their car. Thank you for posting your vlogs and allowing me to see how the island has changed. Have a wonderful day good luck on your next assignment.

Dude. Okinawa has cool days. For a subtropical island there are cool days during the winter months. Albeit not like a mothered climate cold but there were days I needed sweaters and jackets.
Okinawans are not Japanese, they'll tell you that. They're great, kind, humble, polite people.
I found they are more like the Taiwanese. Food, culture, personality, everything except the language and roads.
Okinawans will claim both. Tatsuro Taira is the first Okinawan to join the UFC and he reps as a Japanese fighter and hold up the Japanese flag.

Of course they're in the country.. Why wouldn't they be considered Japanese?
You don't think a navajo, ute, Kiowa, Northern Cheyenne don't also say their American? Ultimately, these tribes still call themselves by their own name. It's so awesome to know where you actually come from and the okinawans like American tribes know who they are and where they came from, and they both have an oral history.
Like me, I'm native American and I say I'm of my tribe, but I'm an American by birth.
All I said was that Okinawans claim both and you exploded with all these questions. I moved to Okinawa in 2014 and been living there since . I work on the Japanese side so I have zero affiliation with the bases. My wife is Okinawan and my kids are mixed. About 95% of my friends are Okinawan.

You’re about to see so much more marines in Okinawa, the schoolhouse I’m at had booked like 100 marines to go in September
When I was at jrc in the beginning of sept of this year we had 350 marines. They usually have 50.
This is a great video!! Makes me miss Okinawa even more, I moved away this past January. Only thing I’d add would be to the furniture topic, If someone’s going to Oki and knows they’ll be in on base housing (which typically have so much more indoor space but can’t testify to the towers) I’d say bring furniture but depending on what size your furniture may be, it might cramp up/not fit inside some apartments if you’re going to live off base. The Second Street thrift store and the yard sale pages on Facebook always had stuff being sold as well!!

Great video!! I spent 3 years in Japan while in the Air Force and had the time of my life. People there are extremely friendly and accommodating to Americans. The food was amazing and always fresh. The driving took some getting used to but in the end, it was all worth it and I would go back in a minute.

Looking forward to seeing what the recruiters life is actually about. Majority marines I know said that they absolutely hated and wish they would’ve gone drill instructor instead. But I’m definitely curious to see some recruiting content.

We had to leave right after he was born for an operation. Trippler. Then relocated to San Diego.

The best advise I can give you is Get OFF base! Enjoy the people, maybe even learn a little Japanese. If you have kids the parks in Okinawa are fantastic, also the SCUBA diving is unparalleled, and there is a fabulous military resort on the northern end of the island that is well worth the time.

Loved my deployment in Okinawa. It was a beautiful place. When I was in though, there was an issue with water making marines sick when I was there are few years ago.

The roads are narrow and apartments are clustered because the military took so much land and the locals don't have much space left.

I was there from '83 to '85. I remember licensed drivers were considered professional drivers. The trucks and buses had 3 green lights on top: one light on meant proceed as normal, two meant watch out, three meant get the hell out of the way. So if you were on a bicycle and saw three green lights behind you, if you got hit it was your fault.
What's weird is that I don't remember the bugs or spiders. Weirder than that - I didn't see one rat in two years. I saw two habus, one Airman Aubrey killed with a baseball bat, gutted and tried to cook in the micriwave. I saw a mongoose trapped by the honcho who worked in the warehouse. Seeing it hiss and hit the cage made me back up 50 yards. But, I'm surprised you didn't mention because the first evening I was there I learned complete and immediate acceotance was seeing those Perry Rhodan type giant fruit bats with the 4 and 5 foot wingspans!
It did get cold for about 4 days once and I think I saw half a snow flake.
Lastly, I saw the only whale shark in captivity at that time at the aquarium on the north end of the island. And I remember that the Okinawans who resented our presence had a cultural policy that has a name I don't remember where they pretend you don't exist.

Would like to see White Beach Naval Station if still there. I was Army stationed in Hospital at Kue '74 to '77 (both Army then later Navy). Swam and fished at White Beach.

I went fishing at schwab, look into it and invite some friends to split the price.
I created my dumb UA-cam name 16ish years ago when I was there. Snorkel, learn to Scuba, visit the ruins, walk around anywhere because it’s safe, eat delicious soba and other delicious Okinawan/Japanese food while it’s plentiful yummy and cheap, and try to make some local friends.
I was there Aug 02-Aug 03. Camp Hansen 9th esb. First got there I hated it. After awhile went to south east Asia. Started to think it wasn’t bad. After I left I really missed it. I kinda wish I stayed another year

The yellow banded orb weavers are everywhere, and are poisonous. They're huge, too. They might as well have health bars.

loved the rock it was my home away from home stay out of the bars learn the language as best you can so many doors will open ggo see the whole island make friends
stay away from the stage whisper alley and other foolish areas. leearn to scuba dive there is alot of history off shore schwab has things you can see just off the reef. watch for sharks though be safe. also have a normal passport as some places dont like military personal and you whip out the passport not military id.
also if it still exists go to the seamans club in naha they always had best exchange rates back in my day .

I am going to visit Okinawa in January 2025 for 2 weeks. I used to teach Isshinryu karate and would like to visit dojos. I am 73 witha BS in Business. How hard would it be for me to get a working visa and a job? I also plan to visit Shinto and Buddhist temples as I am a Buddhist. Some of my old friends were Marines and they urged me to visit Okinawa City (Koza City) and it's Four corners. Can I spend US Dollars or must I first convert to Yen? I speak very little Japanese having only learned Hiragana and Katakana. Finally would you marry an Okinawan woman and bring her back to the States?

My plane ticket to get back home for vacation was free…. Just some of the perks we get! But around $1300 on average I saw to get back home And you can go home anytime you would like just put in leave!

Everything seems to be the same since 1980 Camp Hansen. Traffic? I was motor transport. Fun maneuvering a 5 ton around those crazy drivers. HaHaHa
How do you communicate with the locals? Do they speak English? Have you learnt Japanese? Have you made friends with any of the locals?
Okinawa is very Americanized 30% of the island is American military bases along with a lot of American businesses. Most locals speak basic English at least well enough to communicate with you especially when ordering food or buying things.
They speak English or Spanish or French..learning a foreign language is part of their education.
On your observation about Okinawa weather, I have to disagree with you, I was there for 4 yrs, and yes you do get cool(50's) and cold days & nights(high 40's) in Jan, Feb and early March. Not trying to nit-pick, just letting future residents know that they will need fall weather type clothing in Okinawa. All of your other info was very good.

Be careful of large spiders and snakes, there's at least 3 poisonous creatures here, and they are prolific. Especially the orb weavers. Be careful not to go into the jungles.

I'm half Japanese,& half Okinawa
But I look Korean; never been to Okinawa ;Japan
Times have changed.. Back in 1962 traffic was not an issue. Driving was on
the right side of the road. Naha City had dirt toads. There were no shopping malls.
No rail line either. None of the shops catered to GI's and most Okinawans did not
speak English. If you had a altercation with an indigenous person it went up the
command channel to the High Commissioner who was an Army General.
I had one and had to get off the Island. I did so volunteering to go to VN
as an XO of a Special Forces A-team
My BOQ was located in Machinato not far from the Marine barracks.
You mentioned insects. I used to go into the tunnels searching for WWII weapons.
Often would come face to face with tarantulas the size of dinner place. Scary for
a Lt. from New York. Stopped doing that when I encountered an explosives
which were later set off by bomb disposal unit.
It was a great duty station then and I hope some day to make a return visit.

You were there before we turned it back over to the Japanese, things were much different after that. I also did some spelunking up north and down south, we found swords and corpses and lots of unexploded ordinance. Good times!
