I watched this video about 9 years ago. I went and bought the first CC 4x4 2011 F150 to hit the lot in my town when they were released. That truck now has 320,000 miles on it and going stronger than the day I bought it. It's been running a livernois tune for years and years without a problem. I'd recommend one to anyone who needs a half ton. It's been used and abused. It's towed well over 100,000 of it's miles with trailers over 12,000 lbs at times. It's a monster. If I didn't need to tow heavier then it would be the only truck I had.

My family and I had a 2003 Ford Expedition (5.4L Triton V-8) and after 14 years and 220,000 miles, we just wanted to replace her. I was hesitant to purchase a replacement expedition due to the Eco-boost being a v-6. I thought, "that's a big vehicle to move with a V-6". So, we did a test drive and oh boy was I wrong. Our 2016 Expedition is outstanding and nobody is ready for the power that it produces. We go to the river, pull our boat and otherwise use it like any other vehicle and whether we're pulling our boat, entering the freeway or just passing another vehicle, we are amazed. We recently took a road trip to Sedona, Az. and I'm not used to driving it since it's my wife's primary vehicle, but this trip I was again reminded what a fantastic handling vehicle our Expedition is. We treat our vehicles well and while we keep them for many year and high miles, we watch as friends replace their Suburban's and Tahoe's at around the 100,000 mile mark because of reliability issues. I don't describe myself as a hater of all others, but I do love my Ford's, including my 2015 Mustang GT. Oh, and I also love Porsche's :).

I've got 65,000 miles on it and it runs like I bought it yesterday. IF I ever sell it, it will ONLY be to buy an F-350 diesel to haul a much bigger trailer. I love this truck.
What are the "known" problems? The TSB's here on all data mainly discuss of the timing chain driven water pumps. And we only serviced one ecoboost in a taurus a few months back. Granted, I do think that was a design flaw, but over all pretty reliable. Or at least here in Houston. Not trying to argue or anything. I'm just saying that even I was proven wrong in thinking these would be bad motors.
When a truck outsells the most popular car in the world and people talk shit they say it’s a ford no it’s an f-150 I have a 1989 f-150 with 890,000 miles and it’s finally done with a overhaul let’s see how long it lasts now
The F-150 is easily one of the best vehicles ever made. It's probably gonna be my next buy. Gotta find a 12-14 with the 5.0 and towing mirrors. It just looks and sounds better, plus my friends with F-150s that have Ecos and V8s all say the V8 is the way to go.
Love mine ,2.7 eco boost reg cab 4x4 ordered from ford took 3 months ,23 mpg 19 when towing a 3600 pound car and 4000 pound trailer truck works hunts fishes and runs rock trails around my house love it love it love it
I just went on my own cannon ball run from Oregon City Oregon to Las Vegas and put 1985 miles in 24 hours on my 2020 F150 ecoboost and in Nevada you can basically haul ass. When passing starting at 85 mph and it jumps to 110 this truck is phenomenal.
I bought this truck in 2013 with the 3.5. Immediately threw 37’s and a lift on it. Here we are in 2022, never done a thing but general maintenance and put gas in it. What they’re saying is pretty true, it hasn’t even flinched.
I call out "AUGMENTED ENGINE SOUNDS, ENGAGE!" every time it kicks in. My wife gets a kick out of it. Others, when I explain, get a laugh. I love this truck but that piped in sound with no easy way to disable it is a farce and a bit embarrassing. I'm coming from a 2006 F-150 KR 5.4L. The only thing I liked better about that truck was how thick the leather was. It feels like the new KR went pretty cheap on the main thing that makes it a King.
It isn't running at all today, that motor CERTAINLY wouldn't have ended up in a customer vehicle, that's for damn sure. It's most likely recycled into beer cans now. 🍺
205k miles on my 2013 and it’s been tuned and driven hard for all of it, I blew the stock turbos at 165k mikes with full intention of upgrading when I got the truck, replaced timing chain and phasers at 200k and plugs every 60k, which was only due to the higher HP and the way I drive it. Other than that no problems, I traded in my 1st gen Raptor for my 13 eco boost bc of theses videos and my EB will run circles around the raptor, I’ve got my eye on the new raptor bc it’s has the EB but I love my 6 speed for the gearing. IDGAF about gas mileage, But I do average 15.2mpg and I’m leveled on 33x20x12.5’s.
I have an 2011 with 60K, I pull a 7,000lb Travel Trailer. Closer to 7500lb when loaded with our stuff. This motor is amazing. When towing the shift points are still around 2500rpm. Feels like it is shifting way to early but it keeps pulling and accelerating with ease. As far as MPG go all 1/2 ton trucks are the same. I just like the fact that this truck does not have to struggle to pull what I need it to. I can sit back and relax while pulling on the highway. Put new plugs in at 45k. Ford did a repair on a cold start rattle issue at 50k. It does what I need it to.
@ - Peace my friend , l never said chevy was crap, l like chevy , in fact l own a 2003 chevy. It's been a good truck except for a few minor issues, but l know the motor would never be able to stand up to fords torture test of the ecoboost. I know and accept the fact that Ford builds the tougher animal, as much as l hate to admit it. I know my trucks limit. Last nail on the coffin? I was a body and frame repairman for 33 plus years. Before that l was a mechanic. Up until 87 chevy had a very weak frame , to top it all off the steering gearbox was mounted on the front frame horn. Man you talk about trying to get the steering back on track, forget it. It was a nightmare.
Joe Cooper yes sir the 5.0 works like a dream and you can’t go wrong extremely reliable I’m getting close to 200,000 miles in my 2013 f150 but I would like to own and economist I hear they are just as good if not better than the 5.0 this is why ford is at top
My 2015 3.5 ecoboost is an absolute animal. I never want anything else. Easy on gas when I take it easy, an absolute powerhouse when I need it to be. And I've never yet gotten below 19 mpg.
I was impressed with this engine when I saw these commercials years ago, then I watched when ford entered them in the 24 hours of Lemans and now I own a 2017 F150 with the 2nd gen 3.5L Ecoboost engine... ford bastards set me up lol. I love this engine and the truck itself and as much trash people talk about ford they forced competitors to rethink their strategy, in 2015 they were way ahead of the game and still are.
Agreed! it was a bold move for Ford but they did it right, and of course now the other guys are jumping on board with aluminum, turbocharged engines, and still they are failing. I really like the 2nd gen engines but I gotta say, I love my 2014 FX4 w/the 1st gen at >117k miles on it and running quite honestly, better than my 5.0 was
Ford also does a lot of their testing with van services that go from the Denver or Gunnison to ski resorts. I have been on many trips to ski in Colorado and watched Ford vans sit near redline, fully loaded, all the way up the mountain, and then, all the way down the mountain, at redline, in lower gears, to save the brakes. One van service that I used said that Ford does all of the fluid changes on their vans and gives the vans a new engine and transmission at $150K and the van service then sells that van to a ski service located in the Andes in South America. Ford then disasembles the engine and looks for all of the wear points. Knowing that those motors and transmissions can take that kind of abuse for 150K miles is the one of the reasons that I'm a Ford truck guy.
Has anyone noticed that when they put the ecobeast in the Baja truck, the sound of that Baja truck didn’t change one bit, didn’t even sound close to a V6
bought my 2015 3.5 ecoboost. and this video did convince me :) at 110k miles, i had to replace turbo cooling connector because of coolant leak. Painful to do at home, but do able .
i have a 2016 f150 limited with around 88k miles on it with the 3.5L. The only issue she has is her rough idle and misfires at full throttle when im doing a pull. this because of the coilpacks. easy fix and not too expensive. besides that, 0 issues. i dont do any sort of towing, im building her up to be a sport truck. the only mod i have is a cold air intake and her low end torque is amazing, really pulls hard and doesnt sound bad at all
240,000 on my 2012 3.5 ecoboost. I bought this truck new and it is hands down the best engine I've ever owned. Only maintain oil and plugs. It still runs strong and can tow just about anything I throw at it... too bad the body is going because my state uses salt and I live on a dirt road. I am convinced the body will go before the engine. My next truck will be a Ford 3.5 ecoboost.
That’s just why I bought the newer model made from aluminum. My last truck I had for 23 yrs was rusting enuf that I got rid of it. But living in a salt state I had to replace the transmission lines, brake lines, different components. And I even had it undercoated when buying it new. With this newer ford I’ll have it fluid filmed every other yr
This video made me buy my 2018 3.5 Ecoboost F150. 2 years in, it's a F'ing MONSTER!!! I love her even after trading in my beloved Audi S4 (6 speed manual). If you're watching this and considering a truck, buy this one.
I got a 2016 ford f150 platinum super crew fx4 3.5 L ecoboost and i wouldnt change it for nothing ! Great power and acceleration. I even put big rims and tires on it and its still as fast as before! Had it for about 6 years and i have had zeroo problems just normal things like brakes, oil changes and thats about it ohh and new battery !
Would be more convincing if the same transmission and computers accompanied that engine through all of those tests...those are the items causing problems these days.
Ok it is now Aug 17, 2020. I bought my 2011 F150 Crewcab 3.5L Ecoboost in November 2011 and I have not looked back. Sure there was a recall on two parts on it and Ford replaced the faulty parts relatively quick and for free. I forget what it was but had to do with the braking system if I recall (no pun intended). I STILL own my truck and save for some cosmetic damage this truck still runs like new. I pulled a bucket truck with it, a fully loaded chipper and trailer and even helped pull my friends trailer loaded with 12,000 lbs of scrap iron with this BEAST! I was going to give it to my step-daughter when I passed but after a falling out, the truck is now going to be passed to my fiancee. I recently bought a travel trailer and currently loading it for a move to a new home. Truth be told, I would not buy a new truck. The new auto shut off features of Ford is not the best option in my opinion. Glad my 2011 does not have that feature. Besides the 2 recalls and regular oil changes, air filters, and tires, I have no complaints. I love My (even tho the misses calls it "Hers" lol) Truck! 65k and still going strong! The Main reason I bought my truck was because of these torture test videos. Thank You Ford.
Those sure are some brand new clean hard hats they have on, makes me double think what worker has scratch free hard hat if you’ve worked in any hard labor work you’ll know what I’m talking about

Have owned my 2015 ecoboost for over 4 years now, its approaching 200K on the odometer, besides basic maintenance ive had to do almost nothing to this truck, the most major repair i have had to do is spark plugs and an exhaust manifold.
My boss have a 2017 V8 silverado, a 2014 Ram 5.7L v8 and a 2012 Ecoboost F-150 him and his wife say the Ford has easily is the best for towing and the only one they’d trust with their Camper on a long trip!
I have a 2018 F150 sport I bought brand new. 57k on it and what a beast. She tows our platform buggy and 24' enclosed trailer like a champ. No issues from me. I love my truck
I would LOVE to see this same test with the 5.0 because I have a 2011 f150 supercab lariat 4wd and 3.73 gears and has the 5.0 and I want to see what it is really capable of.
This test also shows the the rest of the drive train, tyranny, diff and drive shaft can take a beating too. Before they took the engine out to the Baja. I got a 2015 ecoboost so far its good.
I want to know how they ran it so hot on the track with the turbos glowing red and didn’t have any exhaust manifolds go bad? That’s been the only real repair I’ve had to do with mine from running it too hot towing in the summer! Otherwise it’s been a GREAT truck!
Mike Rowe, I just saw tucker Carlson where you explained how to sell a pencil. I bought my f150 because of this vid. now I am wondering if it was a sham. I drive 350 miles per week to go to work. I just bought an RV because I trusted that my new truck can hull it because of what you showed. I drive my beautiful wife and two kids in my truck on trips. please tell me that you honestly stand behind this truck.
Ford knew there would be backlash for anything but a V8 being top dog. The crack team of marketers had a hellova job on their hands. Fine work getting Mike Rowe on board. Fine work making this engine a hit!
Why Ford stopped using Mike Rowe is beyond me. Why they also stopped making these types of videos is beyond me. WIth the new Hybrid out, I would have liked to see an all out torture test like this one times 10x. Same thing with electric lightning.
I went to get river rock with a dump trailer and my 2012 eco boost. They loaded 4 bobcat buckets of med size river rock. The trailor hitch almost went to the ground. The tandem tires went almost half flat. I was like oh crap. All ready loaded and had a 30min drive on back roads. Power wise never felt a thing like it wasn’t even towing. I was only worried about the brakes as the trailer didn’t have electric brakes. I didn’t get to weigh it I wish I cudda.

Glad to hear! Any issues? How’s it doing now?
Watching this ! Makes me proud to own a f150! Its funny how many people hate on ford and dont even know why there hating on it !
That’s so true!
gotta give that 6R80 some props too LOL, holding up like that as well
175,000 km's of stop and go traffic on mine and it still shifts like new. 6R80's are Stout as he'll no doubt.
@@russellvandenbrink8996 deffinetly, just as long as you keep the fluids good
When you guys change transmission fluid? Just bought one with 66k. Thanks

Just bought a 2014,f150 3.5 twin turbo.I heard the motors were good.this clarifies hearsay. I'm glad I got this truck.
Went from a 2018 Silverado 5.3L to a 2011 f-150 3.5L EcoBoost and I'll forever be a ford Ecoboost guy now
Mike Rowe is a legend
We regularly get ecoboosts in our shop with 200,000+ miles with no complaints or problems other than regular oil changes. They are tough
Why?
What are the "known" problems? The TSB's here on all data mainly discuss of the timing chain driven water pumps. And we only serviced one ecoboost in a taurus a few months back. Granted, I do think that was a design flaw, but over all pretty reliable. Or at least here in Houston. Not trying to argue or anything. I'm just saying that even I was proven wrong in thinking these would be bad motors.
Cesar Palmos u mean the 3 5 EcoBoost or the other smaller ones
@@cesarpalmos8235 hey, idk if youll every see this, ive got one of them taurus shos with an 3.5 ecoboost, what exactly was the issue?
Basically, the water goes bad occasionally. But it is only in the natural aspirated version of the 3.5. I've ever seen it go bad on the EcoBoost 3.5.
@@enlightenedrenegade472 Amen to that brother.
brb, gonna go get a ford.
You guys are awesome I love Ford EcoBoost F-150 EcoBoost
Lol might as well EcoBoost Is bad ass. Proven! Gen2 out now .
Which one you get? How many miles you got on it 6 years later?
That's a pretty solid testing!
I find it strange they use v8 engine soundtracks when it’s accelerating 😂😂
Mike Grande exactly
I call out "AUGMENTED ENGINE SOUNDS, ENGAGE!" every time it kicks in. My wife gets a kick out of it. Others, when I explain, get a laugh. I love this truck but that piped in sound with no easy way to disable it is a farce and a bit embarrassing. I'm coming from a 2006 F-150 KR 5.4L. The only thing I liked better about that truck was how thick the leather was. It feels like the new KR went pretty cheap on the main thing that makes it a King.
actually the v-6 with straight pipes sounds pretty bad ass
Also they towed a million pounds of trains with a tow rope. Bullshit
Maybe there is a sound tube you can delete?
I wonder where is engine 448AA at and is it still running strong today.
All manufacturers need to publish this kind of testing. Good on Ford ! , but a redo is due with a 2021 model
I bought a Ford Raptor because of this video. Awesome truck.
I always drove beaters and made them last.now i got the ecoboost explorer and im lovin it
I have an 2011 with 60K, I pull a 7,000lb Travel Trailer.
Ford $$$$ payed advertisement above....
How many miles on it now?
@american survival
How much $$$ did you get from Toyota to make that statement?🐀
4:42 NEVER, EVER, put a chain or tow strap behind a ball. It can easily break off and become a deadly projectile.
Yeah this immediately bothered me lol. I figured they'd use a shackle at least
We’ll the key is, don’t use a 5000 pound chain to pull 10000 pounds of stuff.
I’ve done some crazy stuff pulling ridiculous objects out of fields, mud etc.
Never broke a 2” ball, but ya I get it.
The legendary Ford truck in action.
@ yet 99% of people don’t have issues with it
They need to do a torture video on coyote 5.0.
The 2 best gas engines made currently
Joe Cooper yes sir the 5.0 works like a dream and you can’t go wrong extremely reliable I’m getting close to 200,000 miles in my 2013 f150 but I would like to own and economist I hear they are just as good if not better than the 5.0 this is why ford is at top

Purchased a gen 2 Ecoboost 3.5. Very impressed with the power!
I'm throughly impressed.
I’ve been looking into Frontiers and F-150s.
THIS test has me going to get a F-150.
This is the reason i bought a 2019 2nd gen . Love my ecoboost. 60k kms on it right now. My buddys has 450k kms
My 17 f150 is so nice I can’t believe it’s mine. Most times I baby her but when it’s time to work she can get it done like a beast.
2014 Eco 185k runs amazing. Gave it a 93 oct tune and she hauls a**!!
2500 miles on my 2019 3.5 and love it.
I am looking at getting one soon. This sold me on the 3.5
Dont ask I got the 2.7, baby ecoboost and love it, hopes like it’s big brother!!! 38k and not a problem, fastest thing I’ve ever owned!!!
135k no problems.. 2012..
I got the 2.7 runs great. Has a lot of power for it's size. Getting like 23mpg. Pretty nice. 4x4 also.
Lucky bastard , you !😁
That's why I bought a 2013 limited ecoboost f150
I really like the 2nd gen engines but I gotta say, I love my 2014 FX4 w/the 1st gen at >117k miles on it and running quite honestly, better than my 5.0 was
100% agree. Ford are pioneeres, not followers. Heir aluminum body approach and ecoboost technology are here to say.

It was good enuf that tieyota copied the eco from ford 🤣
Right along with every other feature and options!
145,000 on my 2013. Still moving. Love it when I hear the turbos whistle when spinning up. People still turn their heads.
Oh god me too, I love rolling down the windows to hear the turbos especially when we are towing our boat 🥰

Something else the five oh owners can’t enjoy..🤭
Makes a guy who just bought a Supercrew F150 3.5l FX4 feel pretty good.
Ya I caught that..,
From a cinematic perspective this looks freakin amazing
bought my 2015 3.5 ecoboost. and this video did convince me :) at 110k miles, i had to replace turbo cooling connector because of coolant leak. Painful to do at home, but do able .
I just did a cannonball run to Las Vegas from Oregon City Oregon 1985 miles in 24 hours of driving. This truck is bad ass
i have a 2016 f150 limited with around 88k miles on it with the 3.5L.
With this newer ford I’ll have it fluid filmed every other yr
so, if NASCAR had the rules they had in the 60's, that V6 Ecoboost would be in a musclecar, and they would be running it.
Then the muscle car would sound crapy because of the twin turbo V6 in it.
@@CJColvin the rule was then whatever wins on Sunday, sells on Monday
@@tylersudeta9785 Yeah true.
This video made me buy my 2018 3.5 Ecoboost F150. 2 years in, it's a F'ing MONSTER!!! I love her even after trading in my beloved Audi S4 (6 speed manual). If you're watching this and considering a truck, buy this one.
My Ford Transit van has a V6 310 HP twin turbo EcoBoost engine, and I use it for camping off road. It gets great gas mileage.
Damn son, FORD F150-American engineering at its finest
I got a 2016 ford f150 platinum super crew fx4 3.5 L ecoboost and i wouldnt change it for nothing ! Great power and acceleration. I even put big rims and tires on it and its still as fast as before! Had it for about 6 years and i have had zeroo problems just normal things like brakes, oil changes and thats about it ohh and new battery !
Would be more convincing if the same transmission and computers accompanied that engine through all of those tests...those are the items causing problems these days.
it shows that if you maintain an engine with proper oil and early change intervals you can get an engine to run to 500K miles without issues
No denying that engine is legendary.
It's a good car for each engine for each episode
Ford is king over all trucks and has always been
This is why Ford is doing all the testing like this because they're going to EcoBoost engines are going to be going into a lot of their vehicles
Got my 2013 ecoboost 2 years ago. Love the truck took auch good care of her and at 130k miles the pistons are fried .. junk
Rear tire eater for sure!! I love mine.

What you are saying is bullshit, there is a show still on tv called Axe Men, it’s Rygard logging. And the same guys in this vid are the same guys doing the logging on the tv show.
Maybe someone gave them some new hats to wear in the ford video ya think?
Have owned my 2015 ecoboost for over 4 years now, its approaching 200K on the odometer, besides basic maintenance ive had to do almost nothing to this truck, the most major repair i have had to do is spark plugs and an exhaust manifold.
I'll stick with my 94 f150 with the 300 inline 6 and a 5-speed because it'll still be rolling down the Highway 30 years from now.. .
I read 85% of the 2011 Ecoboosts are still on the road today, 13 years later.
Was there a catch can on this and what was it tuned like the whole time it was being tested
I would LOVE to see this same test with the 5.0 because I have a 2011 f150 supercab lariat 4wd and 3.73 gears and has the 5.0 and I want to see what it is really capable of.
Guess they didn't do that testing on the 6.0 powerstroke lol.
Nop before bulletproof them, but after bulletproof it, is a good contender as well. Yes, 6.7 for the win.
Bro is that one of the Krat brothers 😂😂
Wow, they should putt back on Dayno for a another 100 hours or 50,000 miles, Then take apart
I like how they dubbed v8 noises in.
I have an ecoboost in my explorer it makes me happy
Would had loved to see before and after compression
Did they reassemble the engine after the rear down?
Ford knew there would be backlash for anything but a V8 being top dog. The crack team of marketers had a hellova job on their hands. Fine work getting Mike Rowe on board. Fine work making this engine a hit!
Why Ford stopped using Mike Rowe is beyond me. Why they also stopped making these types of videos is beyond me. WIth the new Hybrid out, I would have liked to see an all out torture test like this one times 10x. Same thing with electric lightning.
Watch the cockpit view at 14:37. Sounds like an Ecoboost to me. (I have a 2012)
I went to get river rock with a dump trailer and my 2012 eco boost.
During the test did they change engine oil ?

@@jbone247 turbos replaced 4 times ? You have no clue about what you are saying lol . I own one , maintenance is key , they are fantastic motors especially the second gen engines.
