Retribution - Undertale Yellow - 8 Bit Cover

After covering Trial By Fury, I wanted to cover another Undertale Yellow track, so I covered my 2nd favourite. I love Retribution's use of leitmotifs, and the little beat of silence at 1:25 is so good.
For the video, I wanted to do something similar to my Trial By Fury cover, putting the visualizer behind the character. With Ceroba, it was pretty easy since she was just all white, so I could just make the visualizer transparent on top, and it looked basically fine. but for Martlet, it was much more complicated because she has a lot of black on her sprites. So to fix this, I modded the game, twice! First I modded out the background grid and stars, and made it all green, so I could key it out (just leaving it black wouldn't work because of the black on her sprites), and then recorded clips of each stage from least to most melted. Then I modded out Martlet's sprites entirely, to get an image of the background grid and stars. I could then easily put the visualizer between these 2 layers.
For the background fade that happens as Martlet's health depletes (in this video, just the 2nd half), I used a video of the same shader the game uses. This would have taken me a while to get working, but my friend Lateasusual helped out, getting it done in like 5 minutes. You know I do find it kinda funny that I've had more to say about the video than the music for a few of my videos, but I guess that's just because I'm new to video editing, so I'm learning new things and want to talk about it, whereas I've been making music for a long time, so I can let it speak for itself lol. Anyway yeah more Undertale Yellow covers are coming, and I'm also working on another cover for a different game. Subscribe to see when they're out :)
