Thanks for all the nice comments and helpful suggestions. The jeep is finished and on the road! Check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/bGKSsA6XPfg/v-deo.html
I didn’t know there was a piece of oak in there. They didn’t expect us to revere these jeeps nor want to keep them for so long. Well we do and it’s people like you that bring them back to life for generations to enjoy! Very nice work! Good to see the old spot welder still in there kicking! Thank you for sharing!
Appreciate the feedback! It is incredible that these vehicles were expected to survive about 6 months during WW2 and here we are, 75 years later, still getting great use out of them. Love this quote from Enzo Ferrari (yep, that Ferrari): "Jeep is America's only real sports car". These vehicles fascinated the public back in 1941 and still do. As for the spot welder, we got a great deal on it off of Craigslist. It needed new points, but works like a champ. Like we mentioned in the video, there is a little learning curve with the amount of pinch/pressure/time required to get good bonding, but it is great to be able to put the tub back together using the original technology. Thanks again for the comments and for watching!
Appreciate it Dave! Glad you found it helpful. I bought another tub in the late fall - will be rebuilt soon and will post videos. I am planning to do a power weekend and try to do most of the repairs with a crew of a few guys...
I also have an ACM1 tub but it needs A LOT of work. Question: the large bolt you put throught the out end of the hat channel. Is that were the tub mounts to the frame? You have the welder clamp on it at 20:29. What is the reinforced hole just forward of your clamp?
Good stuff - the nice part about a jeep tub is that everything is repairable, just may take a little time and skill acquisition. Yes, the bolt hole through the hat channel is one of the frame attach points. The reinforced hole is the driver side drain hole. Feel free to give a call 855-339-0382 if I can help you in any way with your tub.
You can usually see them pretty well. Cleaning the area with a wire brush or a 3M pad will usually let you see the dimples enough to drill them out....
Great job, love the videos, do you use Red Oxide Primer, or some zine, I have a 4-15-42 I am getting ready to start on, I hate I got OD Green Fever, I was in right place at right time when I bought my Jeep from a friend 4 or 5 years ago, it came from Ft. Hood , TX, it even has Combat wheels, Thanks
Thank you Scott. We are using the hi-zinc "weld thru" primer under the hat channels. Once we get the repairs finished, we need to remove the surface rust. I have a couple of products that I am going to try. If they don't work, then we will either wire wheel it or have it blasted. The tub was sandblasted when we bought it - but had already begun to flash rust. We will use Red Oxide at that point and then finally get a little OD on it ;-) Good for you on the '42. It is a big project, but lots of fun. Nice to know where the jeep came from! Have fun with it. If you are on social media, connect with us and let us see the project. Also, if you run into any questions, feel free to give a call.

Coming from the aviation side of the house, you should look into Cleco Clamps for sheet metal fitting.
Thank you - yes, a much more elegant solution than my sheet metal screws!

Great video but how do you find the spot welds through the rust?
