Wait a second...why was this ten times more informative than any other video i've ever watched trying to learn a character. Anyone else feel like an actual professor made this?
@@iZonkGaming2021 Oh that would be awesome, thanks for sharing your knowledge. I'm a Gold Cody so I know I still lack a lot of match up knowledge, also I was away from fighting games for 8 years and now I'm trying to catch up and get better; I think my biggest struggle right now is defense, after I get knockeddown is hard to know what my best defense options with Cody are.
@@TechnoPrimate ah ok, well cody isnt great at defense which can also be a blessing. Now you wont resort to ex dp on wake up. Id say…for now: choose between 2 options. Do back roll and block 80% of the time and do the wake up dust (which is quick rise) 20% of the time. Dont mash buttons and dont tech throws until your opponent shows that they will throw you every time. Does that help? If you get overwhelmed while blocking and tou dont know what mives they are doing, you can always vreversal. Id leave vshift alone, you need to know what they are doing to vshift
@@iZonkGaming2021 Thats great thank you very much gonna stick to those 3 options, it helps a lot. I'm gonna follow your fighter id to learn more from your matches if thats ok with you. Thanks again and keep the great videos!
Yw! That is the right guide to start yea, also check the zonk follow up guide, thats silver-gold-plat .. the vtrigger ones and the diamond+ one are a bit much to start with 😅 enjoy Cody! Cool char and great to learn with
If there's one thing I learned from this video, I don't Zonk enough. Though that LP mash is REALLY handy, I hate abusing it while in Silver. Cool video though! Gave me the courage to try and learn him proper. I have some basic Cody casual matches on my channel if you want some cringey Cody play.
So a good 4 frame punish Good anti-air game Good special moves Good meaty options And good shimmy to complimant good okizeme from said special moves One thing to note is that he has a pretty weak fireball game, yes, ex fireball goes fullscreen and has three hits but you'd rather save your meter for ex zonk or ruffian kick.
Yep, he also has bad defense (no 3f, no ex reversal) and slow walkspeed..hes mid tier but below lets say.. GM..where people dont know how to guard him specifically, he is VERY good imo
Yup and its considered a heavy attack so if has priority over meaties on the same frame. And combos into hp on counter hit, huge dmg. But its reactable and only available on quick rise, its not great on pro level. But once again, great tool for us regular players :)
Haha we we started at 0, you will learn, i advise you to hold hp for zonk, all the time while using VS1 to anti air. Fish in neutral with mp and let zonk go. Hit it miss. At first, you gotta feel comfortable playing with 1 less button and get a feel for using zonk. Its so good as a combo ender 💪
I focused on Cody ever since I found your vids but you say "HP covers both rises" I don´t get the point. I was practicing on the "trainning mode" with "blocking first hit" for the sparring and it seems that it can always block HP while rising. Am I wrong about something? I'd like to understand in a deep way all this cause your content is very helpful.
People often wake up and press their fastest button. They can get up in 2 ways: quick rise (same spot they fall) or back rise (a roll backward). The back roll happens 5 frames after quick rise. For all knock downs, the attacker has to know their advantage, the distance to the opponent and he has to react to the rise that the defender does. Waking up pressing your fastest button is way easier because you dont have to think or react to anything. Thats why cody HP is so good to use on their wake up. It beats button pressers on their wake up on both rises. You dont have to react, you will win the interaction regardless of which rise they use. Just make sure you cancel the hp into zonk or ex zonk because its -10 id they happen to block, meaning youre gonna get hit. Cancelling into zonk (-2) or ex zonk (+3) leaves you safe if they block and it will hit if they press buttons. Hope that helps! Its called “the meaty game”
Well this guide is the best one I have for starters so you came to the right place. In bronze-gold its not so much the character, but more a general understanding of the game and your opponents. I think you will improve if you do less. No ruffians in neutral, just a few jumps per round. Use the vs1 to stop the jump ins. Block when its not your turn. Sounds all simple but just learning when its your turn and learning when to block is a core skill you need from bronze to grand master. When you block, you are safe. Down back is your friend haha
@@iZonkGaming2021 I actually used VS2 more because of how many fireball spammers are here. Moreover I'm learning to do stuff like mp - ex ruffian - forward hk - vs2 p
Yea that vs2 does a lot of dmg and is good vs fireballs yea. I just think vs1 is much easier to use for beginning cody players, its a life saver. Ah well our boy is blessed with 1 of the best v systems in the game
Haha cooollll, a veteran! I picked em up in april from this year. Because I liked how he looked and acted and his lore. But I have to say, this character really excels in ways I want to play the game so its a good match ✌️
@@iZonkGaming2021 I main'd him heavy in SSF4 & USF4 I got into SFV super super late, like literally last year during quarantine! I like how he plays in this game versus the older ones. He's more of a straight forward beat-em-up character like his older final fight games. I'm glad they updated his skill set lol. He looked dope to me as well! This username is also my Moniker in Music because of how much I played him as a kid in alpha 3 😂😂
Yea his playstyle is great. He has decent neutral so you can try to get the knock down like that but if you cant, you can ex zonk or just zonk and get the knock down that way. Good oki, good basic mixup game, biggg damage. Yea this is the most effective character for le no doubt 🙌 his shortcomings aren’t important below tournament level imo
this is a good one. i learnt alot. thank you.
I'm rewatching this. I wish it's narated. Super yummy Tips.

Such a great video!! Thanks for the tips, definitely will help me to be better with my Cody!!

Sure! Im not playing much the next few weeks but sure. Also, i will make another vid for silver/gold level players soon so maybe that’ll help
This will help a ton on my quest to get out of bronze. Thanks for this!

Already got my big 3 for starting the game alex, urien and Cody
Nice diverse selection! Im playing Cody Sagat and am trying a bit of Zeku, Rashid and Lucia on the side now 😄
This made me pick up Cody for test session, thanks :v
Good luck! There’s a sudden Cody hype with John Takeuchi dominating Topanga League 🥳 and all the Momochi highlights popping up
I reached master with blanka /birdie and gill ..but i am learning cody for the first time and i love vt1
Awesome! I always play vt2 because i just like it but vt1 is buffed so often by now and it makes his neutral reaaaally good so thats nice. Good luck!
You convinced me to switch to cody
brb after I win evo with Cody after this vid
Haha back yet? LP LP LP LP for the EVO win 🙌🏼
I reached Gold with Cody following this guide folks. This video speaks sense....
