Sold my old M1 few yeas ago but I purchased one in completely mint condition 3 days ago. The M1 was my first real workstation class synth back in the 90’s and it will be close to my heart for good. Now I will keep this one as long as I live.
Thank you William, for uploading this demo of the M1. :-) i enjoyed it very much. A friend of mine got one for his birthday back in 1989 and now i own the virtual one with all the M series -and T series cards. Sad to say, i didn't find any of the 'plus'-patches or sounds. They're quite unique and still sound wonderfull to this day. Maybe i'll get round re-programming them inside the soft version of the M1 . ..
The oscillator, filter, and amplifier parts each have dedicated modulation, which acts as a LFO on an analog synthesizer. So I figure just call them LFOs - they perform the same task, they're low frequency signals (even if digital), and you have wave shape options just ilke an LFO.
I think you could get close with any sampling+synthesizer from the 90s, like a JV-1080 or a Korg from that era. It's the kind of thing that 90s digital synthesizers are good for.
I purchased an M1 that already had it in. They're hard to find, as it was a 3rd Party hardware+expansion card update that's pretty tricky to find nowadays.
I think this really shows how great the M1 "can" be in the right hands. Its William that is superb here. Replace the M1 with an SY85 or even a Kawai K4 and they will sound just as good. Ust remember this kids before you dash off to Ebay and buy an M1 and get bitterly disappointed. Its not the instrument. It never ever is, its the person behind it. An by thatI don't mean you have to be a good player. But you have to be able to tap your talent above anything else. Synths are just tools!
nice informative vid.. i got a question.. Can you program this keyboard for diffrent voice tones? for example I play a melody it requires trumphet and string and organ.. can you save trumpet and clik a botton and switch to strings then clikc a button and play organ and back to trumphet? i had a yamaha psr-520 u save all sound in the memory bank.. and just click bank 1,2 etc.. i thank you in advance for you help
flotopo You can take our lives, but you'll never take our freedom!!!! =D Actually, I believe the part you played was used in softer scenes, like when he was talking to his wife or whatever. Very cool though. Damn I miss my M1. I sold it back in the early 90's & bought an M1Rex. (& O1/Wfd) Then I sold the M1Rex after I bought a Triton Pro X. I'd like to own an M1 again someday, even just for nostalgia. (I have so many memories associated with the M1) But you can't really find them for less than $500. For that much I'd rather buy a Microkorg XL, R3, Micron, AN1x, Mininova, JP8080, SH-201, etc, because I'd use them more than a M1.
@MARANTZamp you can customize the presets according to your musical needs,i just did and got sounds very similar to the other legend, roland d50 and some vintage organs like yamaha yc30,hammond b200,technics sx600 and many more, you just need to get into it and start shredding the original presets out, check my videos and see for yourself...thanx

the pad at the end and the chords you're playing has to be the best part for me
Awesome, just awesome. God, I really wish I knew about this back when I had my M1. The sounds are amazing,...some sound even better than the O1/W.
wow i have an m1 and you have gave me lots of ideas of how to play thanx
Wow, I'm not much of a keyboradist but this demo is awesome. Very nice and straight forward! That M1 sounds great!

GREAT !! Would be worth 6 Stars !! This shows one more Time that the M1 is still a very good Workstation.. have to get that Card !!
Excellent keyboard. Thanks.
Sounds of my heart.
Let your clothing aesthetic match your musical aesthetic.
Much improved on the FACTORY presets! Could you make another video please featuring more PLUS ONE?
wow those sounds are SO COOL. I'd love to have that keyboard...mine is seriously out-dated! Nice playing.
williamenroh, Korg M1 was released in 1988.
Liked the Braveheart flute part :) Nice.
Nice work, thanks for the vid! Say, how does one go about getting one of those expansions? Did you make it yourself or is it available somewhere?
very good demo
thank you
That Blade patch sounds mega!

The M1R has the same sounds as the M1. However, the "Plus One" expansion adds 4 more megs of sounds. I'm not sure if it can go into the M1R or not.
Hi! Love the video's you make!! One question. How was the sound at 2:28-2:40 made? Its so depeche mode and I love it!!
0:38 great one!!!
2:01
Blade sound = goosebumps
Hello. :) Is the first song, played with the guitar patch, an original composition? It's brilliant.
Nice demo! Do you which other Korg synth has the "Universe" patch? Thanks a bunch
I purchased an M1 that already had it in. They're hard to find, as it was a 3rd Party hardware+expansion card update that's pretty tricky to find nowadays.
@williamenroh
How many m1's do you think were done with this upgrade?
Maybe I will hang onto mine after all...

wow blade runner feelings :D
Thanks future303.
I had an M1+1 years ago. Replaced it with a T2.
@nokia3210fuck
nope...the EX was a standard korg upgrade, the plus 1 was a third party add on.....extremely rare
Nice demo! Thanks.
I would love to get that patch at 2m.02s in for my keyboard. What is it ?

What's the best modern keytar to play distorted guitar sounds on?

I have this plus 1 upgraded version.
I think the sounds are kool on the new board, but not drastically different or better than korg's own sound set.
@vegunited06 yes and they have batteries in them which cannot be recharged
OK thanks.
Del
I made it up, but it's essentially me attempting Enya-esque material.
I am getting a M1R in standerd format are all the sounds the same as the m1?
@kolakube123 you are damn right !!!!!!
the M1 hasn't got any LFO. did you mean oscillator pitch modulation?
Quick question, how simple is it to go about creating your own bank?
1:03 FREEEEEEEEEEDOM!
0:25 sounds like the bladerunner CS-80 brass.
0:24 EPIC.
At 1:04, is that from Braveheart? =D
Yes, it is. I know the Braveheart soundtrack by heart and I can confirm it is. :)
