  • Join me and good friend Ryan on Alberta's Maligne Lake. Ryan is a former Maligne Lake guide and helps me fulfill a bucket list trip, chasing rainbow and brook trout using small chironomid patterns in crystal clear water all against a spectacular backdrop.
Don't forget to check out the tying videos and tips on my channel. We fished a number of my featured patterns. Mine and Brian Chan's Stillwater Fly Fishing App also provides additional detail for some of the specific presentation techniques and tactics we used on this trip. Check out the links below to the specific flies that worked best for us and to download and subscribe to the Stillwater Fly Fishing app.

All 3 batteries don't appear to be hooked up? Does he just use one battery at a time, think they would be wired in parallel to draw off all 3 at once?

I use a 50lb Minnkota Endura and a 80w solar panel and it keeps my 800CCA batt very well charged over the day. Never been close to running out of juice after a solid 8 hrs of trolling.

Hi, all three batteries are hooked up in a parallel arrangement, as we were using a 36-volt trolling motor.
      Cheers,
      Phil

Great video Phil! I've seen those freighter canoes, nice set up. Is there an optimum size/brand for the canoes?

Thanks, I will double check with Ryan as he knows these canoes better than I. We were using a Scott 18' canoe on this episode.
      Cheers, Phil

Went back and checked and Ryan does mention it's a 21' Scot

TheSilver9r I spoke to Ryan and he likes the 21' Scott as it holds a bunch of gear including a spare electric in case something goes wrong and is large enough for three anglers to fish.
      Thanks, Phil
