I saw Lisa in November with NIN. Amazing show! One of the highlights was her vocal solo with a delay effect, it was haunting and beautiful. I Also got her to follow me back on Instagram. Fuck yeah! :D

My wife and I were there right in the center at the edge of the stage. yes in Voodoo Lounge Lisa was a power house in this song, but we have grown up a little since then and this is how she does it now. It is so good- I think she is singing her best because Mick keeps picking these guest singers to do the female part on this song and they all pale in comparison to Lisa. I think she reclaimed her rightful spot on this tour and made Mick see how she truly crafts this with the live fans. No one else even comes close.

I disagree, I’ve listened to the original plenty of times, both are equally good. But Lisa’s Melodic Phrasing with Gimme Shelter makes her interpretation my favourite. I can see why people will favour the original. To some people, the original will always be the best. But others differ. I’m not one to assume the original the best all the time, although it’s not easy to put do originals.
I wouldn’t say this performance was Lisa’s best, she sounds great in this performance and she was definitely changing it up. But her Japan 2006 performance was fantastic and better than the original. But then I can’t ignore the 95 performance either. She was in the zone for that one too. Or her performances during the Bridges to Babylon Tour. She made it her own song and went beyond Clayton in her own way. To be fair, Lisa had time to perfect the song. But Clayton will always be remembered for her performance, and rightfully so.

Great stuff, but Lisa Fischer bested this rendition of Gimme Shelter in a performance captured on video from 95 I believe. The quality isn't good, but her vocal performance was unbelievable. And even in the fuzzy video you could see - she was smoking hot then. Not that that matters to me in a vocal performance....but it doesn't hurt.

@@maxloughlin9971 Thanks Max -I'd seen this - I just watched it again to check - better quality video I agree. But for me, I like the (editing) grainier one. I think it focuses on Lisa Fischer more and at the right moments, and it (the video) captured the live concert feel better. It shows Lisa walking down to and then owning that stage, and it also shows her face when she hits that note that takes off into outer space. Check them out and see which one you prefer, and thanks again for the tip. I could watch that video (the grainier one) a thousand times and it would still leave me shaking my head when she walks down to that stage, makes it hers, and hits that note.
