Emmy, a handy tip I've learned, is to ask when their new shipments of florals arrives, & to ask which ones they're planning on throwing away. Sometimes their will be a bucket of them for a discounted rate, but not always. My best win was getting 3 dozen roses for $12. Often stores will also sell long stem roses for only a dollar a piece so it's easy to trim the stems & pop in a few & make it even more high-end looking for cheap. 🌹

I planted several packets of micro and patio tomatoes. Had great germination and plan to share some plants with older neighbors so they can water them and have a supply of fresh tomatoes for several months. Spreading happiness and smiles.

Thank you for another video. You've inspired me in so many ways I can save. I have found so many name brands at thrift shops (Nike, Michael kors, Athletica).
I've also decided even though our house is small and it's scary, I'm going to throw a birthday party at home for my daughter instead of renting out a space. Wish me luck! 😅

I've spent the last two weeks spring cleaning our home. I finished on Friday! I used an old bucket that we had around, vinegar, and Dawn that we had in the house and cleaned everything! I also used some magic erasers that I'd bought previously in bulk. While cleaning, I went through book shelves, drawers, closets, etc and boxed up some things for a yard sale. The house looks fresh now!

I had a great frugal journey this week with saving $216 on roto-rooter by resolving my semi-clogged drains. Lots of soapy hot water with baking soda did the trick. It was an experiment that worked wonders for my drains. Happy Easter to you and yours.

I have made a glaze close to that for many years. My tip for you is to use sugar free apricot jam or sugar free orange marmalade instead of juice. It sticks to the ham and you can put the glaze on at the beginning of the cooking process. No basting necessary. I just mix jam, brown mustard, garlic powder, black pepper and clove. I know it sounds different but it is delicious! Hope the hint helps.

Emmy yours was decorated just beautifully just like my momma's. Thanks so much for sharing. I just love y'all so much and always enjoy watching. How sweet is Paul for arranging his mother's bouquet 💐 what a great son!!! God be with you! Happy Easter!!!

the flowers are beautiful! Grocery store florists are underutilized. When we were planning our simple wedding, I was overwhelmed by the prices at florists when I one day noticed the florist at my grocery store and decided to ask if they do weddings. Not only did I get everything I wanted at about a third of the cost but because they don't do that many weddings they were so excited that they went above and beyond in what they gave me and it was all beautiful. I decided to get our wedding cake there as well (smaller one to officially cut and a sheet cake in the kitchen in the same flavor to cut and pass out), again at about 1/3 of the price and exactly what I wanted.

Boy did that ham look great! As did the Black Forest cake. It’s so awesome you bring meals to Paul’s mom and dad and spend lots of time with them. I know they treasure the time together as much as you do. This week I found out my local library is giving away free eclipse sunglasses for the solar eclipse on April 8 so I am going to go get a pair. Just another way libraries rule!!!! My frugal tip of the week is to use that library!! It is full of treasures and fun for free and for all.

Thank you for another great video! I just wanted to tell you, and the viewers that my not know, when you cut your fresh flowers make sure you cut them on an angle so the bottoms don't touch the bottom of the vase. A little trick I learned working part time at a florist shop. Oh and they like cold water.

    • @tgayer1
      @tgayer1 2 місяці тому +2

I always cut them at an angle, but I guess I thought that I did that because maybe the water could get in better with a bigger opening at an angle. Thanks for the information!

I have been paying my phone/internet on autopay & haven’t really been paying a whole lot of attention to it. About 6 weeks ago I noticed the bill seemed pretty high, so I delved into it. My landline when from $26 a month to over $60! To be honest we have probably not used our landline in about 2 years! So I called the phone company & canceled it. When on the phone I asked about getting faster internet. Turns out we have the fastest available in our area, but the lovely gentleman on the phone, saw that there was a cheaper rate we qualify for. So my phone/internet bill went from $120/month to $42!
My suggestion is any autopay bills, don’t let them just slide - take a close look at them..

What a lovely bouquet, Paul. I’ve found that carnations last the longest. My late husband had a large wardrobe during his working days. When he retired, we donated a closet full of dress shirts, pants and shoes and a few suits and ties. Cooks hams are very good-not too salty.

Great video as always! I think one also has to factor in the cost of gas and wear and tear on the car when shopping 'cheap' IF you end up searching for a substitute item. For example - even if you check the 'recalls' at the Dollar Store (our version in Canada) and your item isn't on the list - it may appear at a later date and then you have to toss out the food you bought and go in search of a better product which means more driving around. The bottom line for our family is that we do not buy anything at the Dollar Store that can be ingested UNLESS it is 'name brand' legit. There's an old saying that sometimes applies: "The Cheap comes out expensive." Thanks for you MANY wonderful and helpful and inspiring tips. I've learned a lot watching your channel. Happy Easter and may your in-laws be blessed with many more years ahead. Cheers from Toronto.

My tip in particular around Easter is to check k and recheck your shopping bills. As people are so busy price increases are often not flagged correctly, offers may not apply or the wrong product is in an offer shelf (be very careful about mix and match with this), on every second bill I got overcharged severely this week 5 -10 extra. On the positive I got lots of bargains on the others by just chatting nicely to the shopkeepers who gave me all their special easter offers without me having to look up anything so that's my tip ask do u have any special offers on and u might be surprised plus you will.have a lovely conversation.

    That ham looked so good!
I can no longer eat ham unless I make it from scratch and finding unbrined, uncooked, ones is impossible near me. They add salt to everything and I am intolerant. I used to use honey to glaze with orange marmalade a touch of chilli flakes so it created a coating that will stick through cooking covered; caramelize and flavour it. The juice is good to flavour and baste and make it moist. I never used cola! Brown sugar yes and pineapples with cloves studded in after latticing and crisping.
BTW- my sour dough starter is ready! I have two going just incase. I want to make the bread maybe tomorrow. So I need to check if I make dough today. Excited after all these years to make it! Only rye flour worked for me. AP was bleached so it nearly died when I tried to switch. It took over 2 weeks with our chill in the house to get going.

Preparing ahead relieves so much stress. Every year my husband and I start buying Thanksgiving dinner stuff in early October so by the time the big day arrives, we are totally prepared. This served us well this past holiday season when my husband lost his job in late October. People from church were wonderful and gave us gift cards for the holidays, but because we were ready for Thanksgiving, that food card went for regular groceries between the holidays. We also have a closet dedicated to food storage, which we relied on for staples during that time of unemployment. Always, AWAYS prepare ahead.

Thank you so much for touching on food product safety. I have noticed more and more that so much of our food is not from the US! The DT is the perfect example of this. We must read the packaging and see what country it is a product of. For me personally, i don’t want to eat a product of China or India. I have absolutely no idea what their standards of food safety is and i am not willing to take that chance in finding out. So, yes, spend a little more and know where your food and even skin products are from. I wanted to mention too, if you’re making those simmer pots, add some star anise to it. It’s so fragrant and last a long time. ShopRite has a big bag of if too for a good price. Have a good weekend 🎉

I hope that pretty baking dish is enamel covered steel. I found out the hard way not to roast meat in a ceramic baking dish. My 13x9 Temptations baking dish broke because of that. 😢They are meant for more diffuse spreading of heat, like when filled with food over the whole bottom.
    Blessed Easter everyone! ✝️🌷

Frugal trip: Traveling -plan ahead breakfast, lunch, snacks, drinks on the road, rather than purchasing on the road. Look for coupons deals for dinner.
    Thank you for your videos.
    One question:
Would the ham be able to be frozen after cooking and eating a day or two.
Also, I now reach out to our community “free”site when I’m in search of items rather than buying.

Yes, the ham can be frozen after cooking. I would eat it within a month of freezing though.

One thing I've been doing is really just meal planning and trying to use the leftovers up.
    Nothing too exciting.
    Have a blessed holiday.

Love these tips, Emmy! Would love to know your advice for young people, how to save for an early and successful retirement. We try to cut and save wherever we can, but it feels like such a long journey to get to financial freedom, and it is hard not to feel discouraged starting out in these times of crisis

Hello, Emmy and Paul! I saved some time and money by making some homemade cookie mixes. I found several recipes on Pinterest. I got so hungry watching you make the ham. The glaze sounds wonderful! The footage you shared of Dixie and her grandpa made my day! Thank you for all your quality videos. Happy Easter!

My tip in particular around Easter us to check k and recheck your shopping bills. As people are so busy price increases are often not flagged correctly, offer may not apply or the wrong product is in an offer shelf (be very careful about mix and match with this), on every second bill I got overcharged severely this week 5 -10 extra. On the positive I got lots of bargains on the others by just chatting nicely to the shopkeepers who gave me all their special easter offers without me having to look up anything so that's my tip ask do u have any special offers on abd u might be surprised.

Great tips again Emmie! The cake looks so delicious! I have found that I (and my mom and MIL also) already have so many beautiful vintage vases that we love. When I purchase flowers to them or myself I simply arrange them in one of our treasured vases. We had to declutter so many vases and other dishes and glassware. This is why the thrift stores are overflowing with them. Use what you already have and love!

Wishing your and your family a happy and blessed Easter. Ocean State Job Lot is a great place to shop frugally, and on Mondays from 8-9, they offer seniors a 20% discount off of food. Thank you for another wonderful video. It was certainly packed with lots of great information, as usual!
