- The idea of the back-to-basics Colin Chapman-principled Lotus Elise was originally conceived in the early to mid 90's when Lotus was under Italian businessman Romano Artioli's ownership. In 1996, a star was born. The 725KG Lotus Elise S1 proved to be an instant hit with motor journalists and customers alike and kicked off a new golden era of the LotusbBrand. Extremely grateful to be able to review this iconic car in Singapore, our first overseas video! Thank you to the owner for offering!

Julian Thomson knocked it out of the park with his design of the S1. I think it will age very gracefully.
I agree! Quite timeless!
Nice one Justin👍love S1
Thank you!
Don't forget its Opel/Vauxhall Speedster sisters, you can even see Elise design philosophy in Alfa Romeo 4C.
Good points!
Love the gear knob
I’m a car enthusiast … but also an avid cyclist 😅
You are a rare hybrid! 😄
Another roadie here who is happy to share road space with cyclists when driving !
Interesting to note that the S1 shares a bit of bonded aluminium tech with my Giant CFR3 which also dates to 1996.
@@pervertt Well obviously considerate cyclists are okay, just talking about the ones who take up the whole lane or go in groups of 40 blocking a long stretch of road.
Also a cyclist myself🙂
I have as2s, same color than yours, sport exhaust comp stage 1 lotus, lotus Toyota induction, who gives about 150 real cv din, same motor mr2 (140 din) and I never drive 1 s1
I really follow your test with interest, nice job👍😄
