Statistics tell them only 5% of visitors drop below the rim....this was astonishing to hear! I didn’t realize few people do. I hiked into the canyon 20 years ago but it’s truly unforgettable. The Canyon speaks to you. It gives you this realization of the power of nature, of life, of Gods majesty and our fragility, it is truly humbling. Beautiful video, thank you! If you ever think of going into the Canyon...go but with respect and preparation.

Another factoid, only 1% of visitors actually make it to the bottom. I'm proud to say I was a one percenter in that respect, lol.

Thanks for the in depth vid of Phantom Ranch. It brings back great memories of my own trip 40 years ago. Amazing how few changes if any were made over the span of 30 years between my trip and your vid taken 10 years ago, everything looked the same. My favorite memories of Phantom Ranch was soaking our weary legs and feet in the clear waters of Bright Angel creek and our evening meal consisting of the best beef stew I've ever had in my life, along with the most awesome homemade biscuits ever.

Superb!! I visited the Grand Canyon 27 years ago and stood in awe at its beauty and majesty. It filled me with a sense of humility and appreciation of God's creation. I vowed then to return someday and am planning a visit when I visit Arizona in September this year (2021) , covid permitting. Cant wait to see it again and to take my wife who has never seen it. Looking forward to seeing this fabulous wonder again!! Alan, U,K.

I grew up in Mesa, Arizona. Been to the Grand Canyon many times, even camped on the rim of the canyon and woke up to snow on our noses. I've since moved away but am getting ready to come back home for a week for my brother's wedding. Can't wait to show my kids the beauty of the canyon up close.

As i walked up to the south rim allowing my eyes to slowly approach the fading edge of the canyon, what appeared before me, unfolding like book yelling its own pages, was a sight that nearly made me fall to me knees and left me momentarily breathless.

Extraordinary video! Beautiful and insightful. Kudos to the producers. Stephanie Sutton is a rock star! I so appreciate hearing the story from a Ranger's perspective.
Having hiked down into the Canyon I also appreciate that there is no cable car or elevator to bring more than the 5% of visitors down there. One must earn that experience through the hard work of hiking in and out. One of the reasons the canyon below is as clean, and calm and peaceful as it is, is because taking the time and making the effort rules out 95% of visitors by self-selection.
If you're a disabled visitor, that's a different story - but still not a reason to put in a cable car.

If you visit the Grand Canyon, find a way to get down into the Canyon whether hiking or float trip. During Spring Break 2017, took Troop 54 BSA on a Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim hike (4-5 days). A never to forget memory! There are shorter hikes down into the canyon. Pandemic and back country reservations be willing, we will be returning during Spring Break 2022!
