    Could you use this kind of pre-suasion also in performing attention toward some topics with some images in the slides instead of the text? (My underlied thougth is that some images could enhance the readiness of mind to think about some topics; es. rising competition related thougths with a flaming F1)

    I am not sure how many of these study can survive the replication test.

    People who talk about these studies never talk about sample size or study count. Without that information we have to assume these "pre-suasion" events are coincidences taken out of context; and would not represent what would happen on average.

      Exactly. Especially the flower sample.
      If you find that study or some of the studies he talks about, please share them with us.
      Have a nice day.

      Cialdini is extremely prominent and well-published in top journals. While I haven't checked the exact studies, he stands to risk a lot by publishing in lesser or non-peer reviewed journals, or citing articles that have weak evidence.

    Does anyone have a link to the general protection law the gentleman @ 53:30 is talking about? Specifically the part that is focussed on the persuasion part?

    • @darhanalim827
      @darhanalim827 7 років тому

      the gentleman doesnt recognize that persuasion techniques work regardless of whether the person is aware of them or not. They act on a subconscious level, not a conscious mind.

    I dont like that he uses one study with a small sample that hasnt been replicated and passes it off as science. Im sure some of these techniques have power. I just dont think its right to do it this way.

    the life of this man consists of application of tricks or exploitation of human irrationality.
    his audience believes problems can be solved with tricks. his audience is irrational and deluded .... probbably composed of individuals with self-affirmation-issues.
    this approach works only in small doses.

      That makes no sense at all. I study the influence of environmental cues on social judgement and behaviour, and I can tell you that all of us, you included, "suffer" from these framing/priming effects everyday, and it has nothing to do with persuation: for example, just due to the fact that the presence or absence of trees or cars on the street drives differencial changes on motivational goals, accesibility to certain kinds of information and behaviour.
      Therefore, it has nothing to do with tricks, but with how the mind works and how evolution have shaped certain responses to certain stimulus. In this sense, when exposed to these environmental cues, you are so irrational and probably have so many self-affirmation issues as any other human being.

      Confirmation bias by those who assume themselves superior to the others of us who are merely irrational/sheep. You can't neutralize that of which you are not aware.

      Can we clarify for a moment what "Self Affirmation Issues" are?
