  • Lürssen Yachts are well known for having constructed some of the world's largest and prestigious superyachts. Behind the scenes though there is an industry of mammoth proportions, superbly organised by a team that ensures that their size does not prevent each client from receiving bespoke service.
I had the privilege of taking a look at their refit facility in Hamburg as I searched for the 110 meter yacht "Jubilee", newly arrived for a one year refit!
Join me as I search for "Jubilee"!

Jubilee was the first 50m + superyacht I had even seen in my life. It was moored outside Oceanco in preparation for sea trials just after it was built. This was two days after arriving in the Netherlands to begin my design internship at Feadship the following week. Seeing how these superyachts are designed & built is nothing short of mind blowing. Coming from an aviation background, yachts were a whole new world for me. Grateful to have had this opportunity.

Paul Allen was one of our bigger clients, during one particularly memorable business luncheon in 1999(?) he regaled us all with a presentation on his concept of the Octopus. During her construction we'd get updates every first Thursday of the month. The science world will benefit from The Octopus and her capabilities. The rest of us just get to enjoy her beauty.

@@anastasiosgeorgiadis7741 Completely gutting it I assume. It was built for the Emir of Qatar who died just as the yacht was completed. It looked like an Arabic palace inside. Hi David, When did you film this? Solandge arrived in Canary Wharf on Friday. Its really great to see more and more superyachts using the Wharf as their London destination.
I did, however, note some rust bubbling under the paint at the end of her starboard accommodation ladder, which was being used as the gangway - so Lurssen missed a bit in the refit!
