Very helpful. One thing I do after playing a great reed that's starting to fade, is ..I put it in Hydrogen Peroxide and clean it. I know you'll thing I'm nuts , but! it actually works. They key is then rinsing in clean clear water to get the peroxide out. I have saved so many reeds this way. It doesn't work on every reed but it does work on many.
When you drop the reed in a tiny container so the reeds can stand up, and add enough Peroxide to reach the file mark...then you'll see the fizzing ...or cleaning, when that slows down I use the heel of an old reed to gently clean even more gunk off the reed front and back by rubbing the reed using the heel. You'll see the fizzing start up again as more cleaning is taking place. When all the fizzing has stopped the second its time to get the peroxide out. Hold the reed in a clear small pyrex measuring cup fill the cup with water and let the running water fill and pour out of the pyrex...the just fill the pyrex with cold water and let the reeds soak...for an hour or so, if the water is clear...your'e done...if not rinse and repeat. Usually the water is clear on the second rinse... carefully dry the excess water from the reeds on a paper towel..then let dry overnight in one of those plastic sleeves the reeds come in as they're ventilated .
I've done this for years and have extended the life of many a reed. Its your mouth debris that also kills reeds..and yes I aways brush my teeth before playing.

Have you ever tried soprano saxophone reeds on clarinet? My dad was a clarinetist in the Army band for 20 years, and I remember him telling me that he found them more responsive and brighter especially in the higher registers. Could be a cool thing to try out in a video :)

Shhhhh don't let the clarinet fundamentalist police hear you!! Just kidding 😂. It's always fun to experiment! Thanks for the idea! I'm already wondering what they would sound like with a BD5....

I wonder how long most players reeds last?
When I played more frequently in HS/college, I replaced my reeds because they were split or broken, mostly because I was too poor to afford a lot of them.
Now, however, I have an embarrassing number of reeds, and wonder how long I should expect to play them. Or is it just a function of them sounding bad?

Do you have tips for alto clarinet? Specifically getting low notes out F-Eb, and the register key range, B natural especially i find it hard to get it out along with E, and I don't really know how to explain this, E-g (Register) aren't very stable when trying to play them.
