I normally watch videos at 1.5 speed, but thought "if you don't have time to watch the whole video, you probably dont have time to take on your own restoration" ('56 Mansion). Great tunes and even better work. Gives a really good idea of the steps involved in rebuild.
I'm glad you stoped in to take a look and your welcome to watch a 1.5 speed, this will get you out to work on your project faster. Good luck with your 56.
Can't imagine the time spent on an English wheel smoothing out the dings! Nice work!
you make it look like fun, Thank You, you rocked it. i need to work on my Spartan.
Thanks. The only part thats not fun, is removing all the stuff the critters leave behind.
wonderful work, thanks for the vid
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
Beautiful! I wish I was there to see the finished project. Love your restoration works ! See ya soon.
You will be. Thanks for the help setting the rivets, couldn't have done it without you.
Always like your work.
Thanks.
I love your restoration videos!
Thank you Laura.
Very nice attention to detail once again cant wait to see the next update
I'm hoping you don't have to wait to long.
Well good work takes time to do right
Nice! I have a 1957 spartan in Alaska. I’m not restoring. But turning it into a home
I lived in a 53 spartanette as a kid.My first place
Fantastic Wayne.... as always...
Thanks Mark.
foster wayne We will be at the ADK tear up this year.
Thats awesome, we'll be seeing you there. Will you be bringing the Metz?
foster wayne..... yes, the only way to travel....😁
Yes, we will be in the Metz...
Wow! Very Cool!
Wow! Very Cool!
Thank you.
WOW. This is gonna be to a tough project and I gotta hand it to you to tackle it. Love Spartans
It should be fun. I wish they made a smaller size Spartan, that would be cool.
Yep. This is a doozie of a project Wayne.
Definitely a trailer to sharpen the skills.
I've always wanted to see a rebuild of a Spartan. Any Spartan. Hey the insulation was exactly the same in the 48 Main Line.
I never thought I'd be doing a restoration on a Spartan, I'm not sure if I'm lucky or not. I thought the insulating would be the worst job on this restoration, then I remembered I still have to buff this trailer, I'm not looking forward to that.
foster wayne I envy your riveting skills! Looks like I will have to learn though as my own Spartans will require considerable riveting. Thanks for posting your build. I will be looking for inspiration and ideas.
Speaking of ideas, did you pass the sub-flooring under the walls?
Sorry it's taken so long, for whatever reason I've had problems with the reply on my channel. Thank you, yes I did pass the flooring under the walls and re bolted everything. Good luck on your project.
I am very impressed! Do you apply a sealant between the panels before riveting together?
Thank you. I used a thin rubber double stick tape, and tripled sealed the backside joint.
great work do you know if the original floor tiles were asbestos we gutting one now
I'm not exactly sure, but I was told that the older 9" floor tiles did have asbestos in them. either way I would use extreme care in removing the tiles.
Beautiful work, Brian. And you've inspired me to try a project of my own. I think I've found a '48 Spartan Manor out here in the south. Just wondering, though, from the pictures it looks like there isn't an axle. A few junkyards have old trailer axles out here but I'm not sure of the dimensions. In your experience, is there a best size to fit? I'm also not trying to restore it to original (too many missing pieces) but the shell looks original and might be fun to retrofit with a newer interior for day trips or weekends close to home. Thank and keep going, please!
Check out the video at 6:38 I put a new #11 Torflex axle on this trailer. I don't like to run a restored trailer on an old axle. For your trailer, you should have the new axle match the measurement of the original axle and make sure the new axle can handle the weight of the trailer and the stuff you put in it. Good luck on your project.
@@fosterwayne6684 thank you very much!
Is the song playing a Kevin MacLeod tune?
wow amazing work!!! do you take on projects?? I have a 1979 toyota odyssey that needs some work! I can bring it to whatever state you're in!
Thanks Corinne, I'm sorry I wouldn't be able to take on your project.
Great videos!
I'm looking at buying a 1953 Spartanette but wanted to first verify that I can remove/replace the plywood floor while the shell is still attached to the frame?
Thanks,
James
I haven't replaced a floor in a 53 Spartan, but if the floor is the same as the 48, I wouldn't think you would have any problems, just replace one section at a time. Good luck.
@@fosterwayne6684 OH thanks! Great series!
Thanks!
James
Amazing work!! What song is playing??
Thanks, the song is from the free list youtube has, I'm not sure of the name, sorry.

Wayne,
After you remove the walls down to bare metal is there is a lot of something black on the walls. DO you have any idea what the spray is? Was it a glue? Thanks!
Matt, I'm not really sure it's purpose, but I was thinking some sort of sound deadening? Sealer?? If you find out please share.
Your work on the metal rot on the doors, looks like you just rebuilt the door frame from 2024-T3 Aluminum- is that right? I've got a '48 & '46 with the same issues. Appreciate any suggestions, tricks and tips.
No trick, just remove what's rotten and bend up some aluminum of the same thickness, then rivet what you made up back into place. When you get into it, you'll see it's not all that hard of a fix. Good luck on your projects.
how is it coming along?
Winter is about over, I should be back at it soon.
Would love to have one of these old trailers but hidden rot scares me. I don't have your skill set to do any of these repairs. Do you do these projects for clients or yourself?
Hidden rot scares me too, but not as much as whats left behind by little critters. I do these projects for both clients and myself.
Hi...I know this was posted 5 years ago, but I just found it and hope that you are still monitoring the comments. I am currently fixing up a '48 Manor myself now (belonged to may late father who had it since 1960). I have a question about what type of plywood you used for your floor boards (beginning at 6:43). Looks like Birch (?). I have been told to use 5/8" exterior sheath plywood, but I am concerned about long term degradation. The original flooring plywood that I have recently remove was 1/2" thick (by the ruler) and looked to be just plain 5-ply plywood. Can you tell me the thickness and type of plywood you used here? Any further floor treatments done? Thanks so much...I look forward to sharing my progress too.
I believe I used 1/2" exterior ply and glued 1/4" sandie ply on top of that giving me 3/4". I did prime and paint the 1/2" plywood. Good luck on your project and if you have any other questions feel free to ask.
