- Video shows how to change a 09 dodge ram laramie blend door actuator to fix knocking noise behind dash board :). Good Luck.
Hey thank you so much. I am not mechanically inclined at all(understatement even) and this is the only video replacing a Actuator in a Laramie. I couldn't figure out how to take my dash apart until now. Gonna order the part and give it try. Wish me luck and thx again.
Edit: Woo hoo!!! got it. I got defrost. Turned out I needed to replace the other actuator but I got it. Thanks alot guys. Saved me a bunch of money and taught me something as well.
almost 8 years later, this video is still very handy. This is exactly what I needed since other videos didn't have the centre console to work with. Thanks for the video. $85 Cdn for the part... called the dealership... would have cost $350 Cdn for the part and service.
Will Hermosura We’re so glad that we filmed this video!!! Every time we get a comment saying we this video helped them we’re like, Yes! Still helping people!!! 😁
Watched your video. Went out and took the dash off on my 2011 RAM 1500 expecting to test and replace actuators.. Because you two had difficulty taking off one of the electrical clips I noticed that the same one on my RAM was already loose. Clipped it back in place and EVERYTHING works again. -0- money spent!! You guys Fricking ROCK!!!
From a auto shop owner, good job. Had a friend call and ask how big a deal it would be to fix the ticking in his dash, I told him it was most likely a blend door actuator but didn't know how much time it would take. Found your video and was able to price it out over the phone.
two different repair places quoted me at least 2-6 hrs to work on it. I found this video and did it in 15 minutes with $30. This broken device was causing me so much headache and worry for repair costs, and it was this simple. Wish I'd found the video 7 months sooner
I was just quoted $471.63 for this job. I have a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport and I want to say thank you for this video. I have dual climate control and NAV so this video is exactly what I needed. I'll fix this gremlin this weekend
1)this video just saved us a ton of money on our repair (2011 ram 2500)!
2)Had trouble concentrating bc I kept singing along to the jams!
Thank you thank you!
Thanks for this video you two. Like others, this saved me $500 at the dealership. Got the dorman part for $30 and pulling everything apart let me clean the hard to get places. Much appreciated.
Man this was so f***ing awesome!!! I have been dealing with this issue for the last eight months. Here in southern Louisiana the mechanics wanted around $350 to do the job. I went to the dealer and spent $84 for a pair of blend door actuators for my 2010 hemi sport crew cab, and in the next hour I had a/c blowing in all directions again. Thanks!!!
Thank you very much for the video. Mine just went out in the mountains of Colorado, and your video help me a lot! 30 dollars later and I have the defrosters again!
Thanks for the video. On my 2010 3500 Laramie it was the one on the top left. I had no vent air. It actually took me 3 hours. That's 1/2 hour to remove and replace all and 2 1/2 hours to locate the parts from 2 dealerships. Fixed for 120.00 Can.. Dealer quoted 1200.00
*ATTENTION EVERYONE* This is absolutely a recall. It happened to me today. The recall is under the "reprogram HVAC head and if clicking, replace actuators".
Thanks Spontos. You are the man. Your video was going to save me money if I had to do it myself!
Thank you for this video, dealership said it's an eight hour job and want over a thousand dollars to fix it. I pay $62. For the part and it took an hour and a half to replace, now everything works great.
Dave Jones I’m really glad that it helped! :)
This saved me 1600 dollars. The dealer wanted to install a complete heater assembly. Way to go!! Thanks.
Thanks for this posting, I just swapped out the actuator in about 30 minutes and that even counted cleaning up the spilled coffee that was on the chrome trim ring I needed to remove. I bought a Dorman actuator (604-038) at Advance Auto for $32 and it took care of my problem. Its a sin that the local Dodge dealer estimated $500 to do this repair.
If you have electronic temperature control, the part number is 6808 9742 AA.
This is a great video. Thanks for posting it. I have a 2009 Dodge Ram Laramie with 41K miles on it. I wasn't sure if it was the door or the actuator and I didn't know how to get to it. I don't have a center console like you have, so the second part of my dash removal was different. I had 8 more screws to remove (which included removing the ash tray and cigarette lighters. Took about 45 minutes in all.
Thank you so much for making this video. I couldn't find one that showed the dash removal with the console. The same actuator on my truck had busted out teeth as well.
I just start hearing clicking noise. And I Google checked and see my 2009 exactly same console u have blend door actuator went bad. Now I can change it. Thx for the video.
WOW! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
So... mechanic said "probably will be several hundred, maybe a thousand bucks cuz you gotta pull the dash". Came home, two minutes searching youtube, ten minutes watching this video, $38 bucks at the dealership for the part, 20 minutes doing and bang! Done! You and "The Mrs." saved me a ton.
Oh - I used a Miller Light instead of a Bud. Apart from that it went off exactly like the video.
Thanks again guys. How nice of you to help others!
Excellent tutorial thanks to you i saved hundreds of dollars. I have a 2010 ram and your instructions were spot on. Again thanks!!!!!!!
Thanks for posting this video. I had a blend door motor go bad on my 2010 Ram 2500 laramie and the dash removal was exactly the same. Your video helped me take this dash out for the first time.
Thank you so much for posting this saved me a fortune! The dealer said $1400 but I did it in 45 min and the part was $53.
$200.00 job, are you kidding me? Dodge Huntington on Long Island said it was a $1100.00 job because they had to remove the dash. I am so glad you did this video, thanks.
Awesome. You two are an asset to the working man. Way to save me and others a lot of cash. 2010 1500 Ram had the same thing happen but I had 148.000 when it happened. Thanks again
Thanks for this tutorial. I just applied it to my '09 Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi and everything seems to be working fine now. The major difference for me was that the replacement part cost $63.
Dude
Thank you very much, The dealer quoted me close to $1000 + Parts, I took a gamble and was able to do this in 21 minutes flat. One hint though the 2 actuators are located side by side, so before you disconnect the wires try to put one hand on the actuator and turn thee ignition on,This way you dont take the wrong one of, The bad one will vibrate to your touch.
Thank you very much
OK man...
Good music choice.
Good beer choice (IMO).
And lastly, what a support band!
Your awesome. Thanks for the video.
Thanks sooo much for the help and posting this fantastic video!!!!! $30 tax included from autozone, 40 minutes which includes getting another couple of screwdrivers and it's back together blowing COOOOLLLLL AIR!!!!!!! Thanks again so much!!!!! W.
Man thank you guys for this video !!!! same shit on my 2014 2500 Laramie that was stressing me out !!!! heard nightmare rumors was gunna cost me 800 bucks at dealership , pretty much same setup , replaced both for like 60 bucks I think and now I’m not freezing in PA !!! Thank god for you tube and good people like yourselves !!! Thanks again thumbs up perfect instructions !!!
America First hey man this is happening in my 2014 also. I am getting air, though less than I want. But it’s not very hot. It’s not the heater core. It must be one of these. Do you know which one you had to replace to give you hotter air? Which one controls the blend door between the ac and the heater?
I’m gunna make it easy for ya save a time from ripping your console out like I did ... your glove box open it normal ... then press both of the sides in towards each other and pull down the glove box door will pop off ... if you look at the left side of your opening , you will see the actuator the operates the left side of your climate control ... you will need a small socket that will hold a quarter inch Phillips head to get to all the screws without pulling the whole center console .... only problem is if you have dual climate control in your 14 the passenger side actuator is the other side of the heat box and requires pulling your whole dash out and heat box ... so hopefully yours is the passenger side one
America First when you say the other one could be on the other side of the heat box, are you saying the other side like towards the front of the truck by the firewall? Or like the other side of the console and I will be to just pull the dash? I hope I don’t have to pull the entire plenum box out to get to the front side of it.
jhankerson16 yeh bad news towards the fire wall ..that controls the passenger side second part of your dual climate control I will try to find the site that has every actuator location for ya it’s a pic give me a couple
jhankerson16 go to Dogeforumns.com and search for 14 ram heating system pics I believe that’s where I found the whole pic of the heating system it was on a attached link i since erased so I can’t help ya there man .... good luck if it’s the actuator on the front side you will have to pull entire dash ... under your glove box is where your motor and cabin / fresh air recirculation door is you can see it through the opening .. make sure that is working by pressing your recirculation button also sometimes stuff from your glove box falls behind there and blocks the air intake to the heat box
thanks for the vid, just started making noise yesterday on my wifes 09. at 43000 miles dont know if it will be under warranty so this is a great help.
Thank you very much!! You saved me a lot of unnecessary guessing and money... Excellent video
Just a follow up, vid helped immensely especially the part where I could do it while having a beer makes my job easier lol
Thank you so much! I got this completed in about 30 mins! Saved me so much money!
Thank you!!!!! What an easy job but could not have figured out that dash.
Thanks a ton for this video. It saved me a lot of money and frustration. My truck is a base model so my dash is a little different. I shot a quick video of getting the to actuator and linked to yours since it was so helpful.
Thx for putting this up..you've helped out all of us
We are very glad that we could help with this video. Thank you all for the comments and likes :). I told my husband this would help out a lot of people and save them money, so i'm glad that it did :)
Thank you for this video. I used it to replace both actuators behind the dash. It was a great help and most appreciated. Thank you again.
InstaBlaster...
Thanks for showing us how fixed, I’ll do it and record in Spanish and post for help more people that doesn’t speak English
Thanks a lot. Great video!!! I have a 2009 Doge Ram 1500 and had the same problem. You guys made it simple.
great video. Think this is my issue on my 2010... thanks for making the video you two.
Thanks alot for the video, mine went out yesterday and this video is a great help. Thanks again.
So there are apparently 5 actuators on the 09 Dodge Ram 1500. Another one went out and were apparently going to have to completely take the dashboard off because it's in the back. Not easily accessible like the ones in the front. Stay tuned for another video! Oh and subscribe if you like this video lol.
Have you had a chance to replace those other harder to reach actuators Spontos?
spontos26532 still waiting to this day!
Ahhh I’m so sorry! I just saw this. I (the wifey aka camera man) had a family emergency and wasn’t there when he replaced the other ones, but it was a pain in the behind from what he told me. Sorry again!
@@spontos26532 Wife said "Hold my beer" (camera) to grab the clips'
Awesome video! thanks for posting.....I'm sure this is covered under a recall service bulletin but I really don't like the idea of someone tearing the crap out of my dash! Dealership told me they would have to pull the whole dash and that it would take a full day or more! As a mechanic (aviation) I think I will do this myself....One question though, Isn't the clocking of the gear on the actuator important to the position of the door mechanism?
You have an easy fix.
Good job bro
Now on my 09 I bent the ac line going into the evap core behind the firewall.....
I'm fucked and it does require full dash removal. Lol
Hey good video. Did that to my truck recently. Although same part keeps breaking. I'm told I might have to remove fuse to recalibrate the throw on eCh one. Know anything about that??
Great help! Replaced both actuators easily. One issue though, Bluetooth on Uconnect not working. Any connection ? Something need to be reset?
Awesome video and it helped me out a lot when I changed my acutators. Thnx.
Thanks alot bro and camera girl dealer wants to charge me $1400 thay sead the whole dash panel has to come off. Now i can do this job my self with out tearing up
Great video! I have an 2010 Ram 1500 Laramie 4WD....you saved me a lot of cash. I typed in my VIN on dodge's website and there is no recall. I have 43K miles, that seems to be the magic number for these parts to fail.
You can slide the gear off of the shaft and turn it 180 degrees and put it back together and it will work just fine. 0 dollars. Fixed mine today.
Thanks! I had the dash out in 10 minutes WITHOUT breaking any clips. Do you have a video for removing the glove compartment? Those two actuators in my 09 laramie look fine. I need to access the other two.
Nice Video dude, it took me 15 minutes and 32 bucks.......
I need a video to get to the other 2 actuators!
I have a 2011 Ram 1500. The truck will blow hot air if you set it on the heater. When you have it set to AC, air blows out from the vents but it isn’t cold. I don’t hear any grinding or clicking sounds. Could the actuators still cause my AC to not blow cold? Thank you
When you said "as you can see" the gears are broken, we cannot see because it is out of focus and your fingers are in the way. If my gears are not broken can the small motor be the problem? Just curious. good video
Amazing video! It saved me a ton of cash and time. Thanks a mil for your post.
Very helpful, thanks!
Will this help with the ac coming out the vents mines only blowing from the floor
have a 2010 laramie looks exactly like your 09 with electronic temp control. Q: What was the part# used in this video. Was it the dorman 604-005 or 604-038
I replaced both of them in my 11 ram from advance auto parts and still does it when I turn the ac on or change climate
Hay, nice video! Did you have a trouble code? Was your A/C not so cold?
I have a 2010 that I purchased about a month ago and just found out the day before yesterday that the a/c is not so cold. it was 26 decrees C with high humidity, the compressor was turning, water running out from under the truck but was barely able to cool down the cab. I put it on the DIY scanner I have and there's a trouble code that says 'Main/Left Temperature Door 1 Control Performance or Incorrect Operation'. I'm wondering if this was your issue also.
Thanks
Thank you for a great video it helps alot
incubus too??? bro badass!!!!
was this the one that moved where the air came out from?? like defroster, floor, dash?
@tednuugent66 we did not pay attention to the actuator part number, I do know that we couldnt get it anywhere but the dodge dealership. aha, i just found the old part lol i need to throw this away already, not sure if it'll help but it has some numbers on it. First line: AA-113800-3041 Second line: 300094 08/27/08 01:09:39. I hope this helps.

Can anyone describe what each of the 4 actuators do? my hot/cold quit working so which one do I need? I appreciate the video but it's not helpful if you don't know which actuator to replace. Thanks.
I'm not sure what each one does, but I know there are 5. Three are easily accessible (the two in this video and one more to the right, behind the glove box. As far as the part all the actuators are the same. Just gotta follow the noise and open it up to see it that's the one broken. We'll be making another video since one of the harder ones to get to broke. Stay tuned 😊
-The Mrs.
Is that part number 604-005 or 604-038? I replaced the exact same actuator and days later it broke again. I bought part #604-004.. I'm not sure if I need #604-038 instead. By the way awesome video!! I hope you're getting paid for this video from the ads
Really helpful, thanks. I have the same issue in my 09 but I think there is another actuator up against the firewall, anyone know if thats true. I checked all 3 that I could reach from the front and have the same problem.
Same issue! I need to get to the 3rd and 4th one! Where are they?
Where did you find #3?
The third one is right behind the glove box, easy to get to, just remove the glove box. The fourth one is between the firewall and the heater box...according to the tech at the dealership that is working on mine right now. They had my truck for 4 days.
just dropped off truck today and was told this is not under any recall
Mine sounds like a rumble on high and heat is on all the time.. any suggestions??
You got a good gal right there!
Good video.. Love the Beer inside the truck :P but System of the down was getting annoying.
Do you have the Big Horn edition? I am having the same problem.
Are those two different types of actuators or identical?
You have to tell people to keep the white lever pushed up to the top BEFORE you slide in the replacement unit. If you don't you won't get the proper direction for the air and you will not get anything at the feet. Trust me.....I found out the hard way.
What sign was it giving you that it was going out? My 09 Laramie is not blowing out on like it should on all speeds. And how did you know which one to replace?
It started making a knocking noise and it wouldn't blow out cold air. As far as how to tell which one it is you have to pull them out, open them and check them. You'll see the broken gears if it's broken. Hope this helps
I have the same issue on my 2007 ram its like a slap when turned on feet and main.
I have a similar knocking but at the same time my ac blower is not blowing until about 5 minutes into my driving. Is this a blend door actuator problem, a ac blower fan problem, or both?????
There are 5 actuators and I'm not super sure but I think one of those does control the air. We'll be making another video. Stay tuned.....
Ok my hubby just got home from work n it said his truck does the same thing, but that it's common for the blowers to need time to catch up. Something to do with the comfort entry in the dash settings. Hope this helps.
- The Mrs.
do you no if there's one behind the glove box.
same problem and just now noticed the other video on how to replace and how much it costs, its a 15 minute job! fml!
Anyone have the model number for this part? and are both those the same part? they look the same!??
Is this dual zone or single zone?
hello from mexico and excuse me about my enlish
i have a ram 2010 reg cab rt and is the same shape of the dash and glove boxes
does anybody knows how to remove ALL the dash including the gloveboxes?? beacouse i find the blend door actuator behind the glovebox of the top but it seems like im going to need to remove even the top off the complete dash to replace the actuator
(i find two actuators right under the stereo, another one beside of the feet of the copilot and the fourth behind the glovebox thats the one that i need to replace)
does any body knows where can i watch a video to do that ??or anybody can explain me how to do it?? beacouse i am afraid to explode the airbags
beto grz I have the same problem did you get info on reaching the other acuators?
Might be easier if you get the bottle out of the way
👍👍👍
????/ never gave details on what ac was doing with that problem or showed how wire came out of actuator
Dealer wants to charge me $800 for this! No thanks, I'll try it myself.
Only problem is that it's literally 50 degrees below zero outside, and my truck doesn't fit in my garage!
There is a recall for this they have to update the software and if any actuators are broke fix it for free
Oh also I think the recall # is k17 just call your dealership and tell them you think there is a recall give them that number an they will schedule you to bring your truck in. I just called today and found this out.
Dealer told me to disconnect battery to reset software, this did not work... How do I re instal software?
what years ??
what about the one in the back? not so easy huh
Get the bud light bottle out of the way.
i sang the song the whole time.
Good video but annoying music
dodge just quoted me minimum of 8 hours @ 145/hour plus parts.. yeah right.!!
You know you could just rotate the wheel 180 degrees and don’t have to replace it at all. Zero dollar fix just 10 mins of labor
Why take all that shit off
