I would LOVE to see an extended version, like a full documentary, I would pay to see it in a heartbeat...this cat is the 'real deal', super talented...
I am an artist too, mostly a painter--and I love cardboard as well, but you've taken this material to a BRILLIANT next level. Congrats Johnny. Plus, you seemingly have risen about your loss. I have subscribed eager to see what work you continue to produce. Making art is healing I have found thru my personal losses.
People like this, who take something bad like a loss and turn it into a positive, are real heroes and we should all learn from this. What an amazing person and his art is amazing. What a genius idea to use cardboard! Why the hell not..
You prove what I've said for a few years now . There's no gold in the streets. Just paper aluminum and plastic. You turn card into gold . Bravo!! Please don't stop!!
I love cardboard, almost as much as my cats love cardboard. It has a soft warmth and a gentle, soothing colour. Very underestimated as an art material.
Love this, what a talented artist. When I was younger and had little money for art supplies I would use cardboard, masking tape glue , paint and some jewels from broken costume jewelry to make crowns.
Wow Johnny! this dude is for real! you can get raw materials anywhere with this . an artist like Vincent made his best pictures of a glass of water or his shoes , everybody loves the night cafe or the sunflowers but his best ones were humble.
You my friend are an inspiration to many ! I’m an artist and work in many mediums but you my friend have opened my eyes to a whole new world ! Thank you brother and God bless. Your light shines bright and like moths to a flame, you are an inspiration to all artists.
Pure brilliance! To take such humble mediums and turn out such luscious art, it’s truly amazing. These busts and reliefs are like a hybrid of Louise Nevelson and Picasso. Wishing you continued health and many years of creating 🙏🎨🏋️♂️🏋️♂️🏋️♂️
RU. - Джон, Джон!!! Даже представить не могла, что из картона и бумаги можно сделать то, что Джеймс делает. Интересно то, как создаётся объем. Как много я не знаю интересного. Да эти работы как живые люди. Восторг и радость от видео.
Brilliant. I'm blown away regularly by the creativity and inventiveness of my fellow humans. They are some of what is best about humanity. And that's important in the face of what the world looks like now. Artists bring hope. Beauty and hope.
artists are ones who make something from basically nothing, a blank canvas of any sort. and this gentleman has taken what is basically a throw away product and make wonderful art.
He came to my school during activities week in avout 2004 and he spent the week showing us his techniques. We made our own cardboard heads and it was great fun. He also loaned one of his works to the art room and I remember this giant head being in the classroom for ages. He was also a lecturer at the local college when I did art and design although he taught the next level of course to what I was doing. Really great guy and very talented. I think I'll save the next few cardboard boxes and see what I can come up with.
This is such a lovely video, thanks for sharing it. He seems very shy and modest. His work is amazing. It must have taken him a lot of courage? to overcome his cancer and subsequent effects at such a young age. Well done to you both for bringing this story into the world.
His work in incredible! I feel like using a better glue than hot glue may give his work better longevity and I think the unpainted pieces shown here are more sincere and will get him better attention as an artist.
Yes, cardboard's great BUT glues can be VERY noxious/toxic & expensive! When we have to work in our homes we often can't close a door and have to breathe in the chemicals all the time; I've got some acrylic paints that have a TERRIBLE stink when wet (awful to work with: overpowering) and still a very strong & unpleasant odour even when dry, I'm sure the fumes must be harmful.
What a truly amazing sculptor, making use of what others have discarded, redeeming the used, the throw away, into a new and unique creation. Beautifully made sculptures that in their new persona truly inspire. Thank you James Lake for your creativity, for what you bring to the world.
Fantastic Johnny. Love the positive approach to life in general and in particular. We did this in art school here in New Zealand as well. Building faces in life drawing classes. So we had a model and were given a bunch of materials to work with to build something out of basically nothing... That was fun, but I had no great success at it. I like your approach. It makes sense... now that it is 10years after art school. LOL
Why is part of this video muted? Nice artistic work, by the way. Always refreshing to see something new. And this certainly fits that category. I'm a HUGE art fan, and in my 42 years, I've never seen anything like this!
This guy is amazing and it took a while to convince him to let me film him. It was worth it though and the result was well-received.
I bet he’s thankful because now he probably gets a shit tonne of work
His art is amazing
Great stuff. Thanks for this.
Thank you Mr Morris, for showing the world a true artist I greatly admire his art creations.
👍
I would LOVE to see an extended version, like a full documentary, I would pay to see it in a heartbeat...this cat is the 'real deal', super talented...

I read that a true artist MUST make art and he/she will use whatever material they have available.

Such incredibly talented people in the world. These are amazing!
My gosh this man is an absolute genius with this cardboard. It looks like polished wood that shows the grain. Should be in museums.
I love cardboard, almost as much as my cats love cardboard. It has a soft warmth and a gentle, soothing colour. Very underestimated as an art material.
Cardboard is a wonderful medium to create art Have used it for many years....James should make all of us humbled and greatly inspired.
As someone who also works with cardboard and loves the material, I have the utmost respect for James' work. Absolutely gorgeous and with such passion!
You in a warehouse too?
