Very impressive artwork, I'm touched by Charlie's humble approach to his craft. I wish him the best and hope he is able to have a long and sustainable career.
its more about the direction of pressure on the saw blade. when cutting vertically you can put pressure down on the blade but when cutting branches you have to cut in a pulling motion
The other main reason for the curve is that the saw cuts on the pull stroke, rather than the push stroke as on western saws. So when you pull, the teeth are always on contact and cutting the wood. Particularly useful when that blade is attached to a pole.
You applied less force perpendicular to the cutting surface due to your position. You cant always be right on top of the material you are cutting. During the horizontal cutting motion, the curved blade naturally applied the perpendicular force.
Simply beautiful. And the artwork isn't bad either lol. Actually, I love it, the whole concept and execution of the pieces. The only thing that could make it even better is if he planted trees too, to replace what's taken. Oh, and most importantly, the very best part of everything is that gorgeous doggo. Surrounded by sticks, no wonder she looks so happy ❤️
I happened upon your channel and I am in awe of your gift to the world, your ability to create beauty, your talent to take a bit of nature and intertwine your personality into something meaningful. You are truly special and blessed. Your dog is adorable, too.
He is so much like the old SNL skit about the driftwood sculptor. "When I see a piece of wood, I don't just see a piece of wood, I see a squirrels nest"
They won't last that long. However there are beautifully delicate pieces of timber furniture that survived thousands of years in the Egyptian pyramids, and they look like they were made yesterday.
Lopping saws are that shape because they are a pull saw rather than a push saw which most traditional saws are. To keep the teeth engaged with the material, the saw blade must transcribe the same arc as the arm powering the saw. Drag your saw slowly across some material you wish to cut and feel how it is the curve that keeps the teeth engaged on and cutting the material. The teeth are cut and sharpened facing the opposite way to a push saw as well. The bevels are on the opposite side of each tooth. The cut is made on the pull stroke and the bevels shed the sawdust out of the cut behind the cutting teeth.
I had a spot in the woods close to my house that have vines and laurels that I was weaving together while it was alive but recently I lost the area to a local tubing business.... Once they go away I plan on going back and taking all the stuff I made.
Dog must be in heaven seeing all those sticks.
Solid comment, bro
Yeah, with ticks to be removed though.

Nice
This dude's job seems so therapeutic and rewarding. But it definitely requires a lot more artistic talent and dedication than I possess.

I like this dude's energy. Super talented too.
Curved saw blades saw more efficiently. That's why it's curved. But it's more noticeable when you cut thicker branches that take some effort.
its more about the direction of pressure on the saw blade. when cutting vertically you can put pressure down on the blade but when cutting branches you have to cut in a pulling motion
In a workshop you'd be cutting mostly square profile material. in the woods, most things you cut will be circular/ have curves to their surface.
Alexander Skaarsgard would play this dude perfectly.
How is this dude so incredibly chill?
And loving his dog steps him up several levels 🤘🏼🐾
I love the wood and metal art. It always feel good to watch it. I have a decorative steel tree in my room. It is really beautiful.

His kid is gonna have the best tree house in the country.
This honestly sounds really fun. Walking into the woods, crafting, and end up with a really nice outcome, I'd love to do something like this
Tree saws are that shape so that the pressure against the wood is the same in either saw direction of cutting action. forward or backward stroke.
Fast forward 10,000 years, future generations will come up with wacky explanations for these human nests and wooden spheres.
You really think we're gonna survive here another 10 ,000 yrs ? Lol.

In several states, cutting Mountain Laurel, living or dead, along with many other plants, is illegal on public land. He probably knows that though.
