Loved the enthusiasm for this subject. One of the famous hidden tracks is the one at the end of Nirvana's Nevermind - Endless, Nameless. In the '80s there was, due in part to a court case (Judas Priest), an interest in backwards masking, which is another quirk of records. Another that springs to mind is the insertion of spectograms within audio, see Aphex Twin's Windowlicker EP. Personally, I'm also a fan of manipulating the media to do unexpected things. It often feels like you're in a secret club when you find out. Streaming definitely robbed us of that. Subscribed to your channel.
My favorite hidden track is "One Day" by Skinny Puppy, from their album Bites. It turns out it's a favorite special song to cEvin Key, who wrote it during a very tragic time.
Around 10 years ago, my friends and I half-jokingly put out on Bandcamp a 20th anniversary "single" of a song we wrote as teenagers. We listed 5 tracks, but if you purchased the album at "name your price", you got a 6th track too...
Nice, a Skindred album! 🤘 One of those albums with a pre-gap song i own is 311's Transistor but unfortunately i have never been able to hear it, never had the right kind of cd player ☹️
Super interesting how technology is invented for a purpose, then is misused and has another function. Like how using the pre-gap on a CD to actually put music in instead of using it as a gap between the last and first track is like how guitar amplifiers were invented to make guitars audible over drums, then people started messing around with them and distorting the sound that came out of them…now who can imagine a world without distorted guitars (particularly in the realm of heavy metal) 🤷♂️
