One of my favourite examples of bonus tracks was Tyler, The Creator’s “deluxe” for Call Me If You Get Lost, the additional 8 songs may not fit the story of the original thing, but are still really good songs!
Yeah that’s called a deluxe album bro, did you watch the vid ?
@@dsnever3041 Yeah, I’m just saying a good example of additional songs that may not fit the story, but have the sound that was throughout the album
this and with igor as well, like group b and best interest are so peak they still pop in my rotation even if it doesnt fit the narrative so strong
The Estate Sale!
i think he meant bonus tracks like special yellow and boyfriend
Every time onlysmallbites uploads, you know it’s gonna be great

The album with no skips
@@crazyimaginations1244 imo wusyaname is a skip
The entire reason I got into vinyl was because of NIN’s The Fragile. The CD was the standard version, but the cassette has an extended coda to one of the songs… and the vinyl cut has extended intros AND outros of the standard songs, and it has two ‘bonus’ songs baked into the tracklist. It feels like a different version of what we could’ve experienced, only for the vinyl edition. Really surprised this one didn’t show up in the video!
Some really interesting examples of bonus tracks are tracks like 2007 by JID and Endless, Nameless by Nirvana (technically a hidden and bonus track) which were intended to be on the main album but had to be left off for whatever reason. Endless, Nameless was just accidentally left off the first pressing of the album which is pretty funny.
JID’s 2007 didn’t make the album in time because of sample clearances, so he posted it on UA-cam. Then, when the sample was cleared, he added it to the album
I'm pretty sure nirvana added that on purpose
Endless nameless was a result of them fucking up the recording of lithium and kurt thought it would be funny to scare the shit out of people with that track 💀it starts 10 minutes after the final track something in the way
The editing and animation is insane
on CD there were hidden tracks that only played if you listened to the entire album and then waited for like 5minutes. This even worked when ripping the CD, but left me needing to manually cut the last track and hidden track to have them as separate mp3 files without the 5min pause. And that's why you keep the WAV files until you confirm the MP3s are good :) ...wait nobody rips CDs anymore...
Yeah this happens at the end of Frank Ocean's 'Start', you wait for a minute afterwards and it plays 'Golden Girl'
Fergies solo album had this on her last song.
I’m surprised he didn’t mention an example of this. But as he said this video just scratch’s the surface.
He definitely mentioned this, said he was gonna make a video solely about hidden tracks
My Chemical Romance’s Blood from The Black Parade is another example, genuinely startled me when Blood started
nah don't worry i still rip CDs too
Red Hot Chili Peppers actually have some really great bonus tracks and b-sides, at least in my opinion. It always seems like they try something new with them without "ruining" the album, which I guess is hard to do as you usually listen to rhcp for the sound and instruments rather than a coherent narrative. Bunker hill is by far my favorite song they've written, which is a b-side on the single for Fortune Faded. Quixoticelixer is also a favorite of mine, being a bonus track on Californication.
When it comes to RHCP B Sides I always think of Sikamikanico (from BSSM), a very fast paced banger. And considering that double album SA had enough leftover tracks for a hypothetical 3rd disc, IWY had a full B Sides album and UL had a followup on the same year that had tracks coming from the same sessions makes clear that these fellows write and record A LOT.
RHCP B Sides are incredible, especially the SA era tracks.
@@KremBotop I didn't know that they made an entire B sides album! I should go check it out!
lemon demon bonus tracks are amazing and there's no denining it
i think lemon demon is one of the only musicians who stills includes enhanced bonus content on the CD releases
Listen to MX by Deftones, 2 hidden tracks in one song, hence why it's 37 minutes long.

Man On the Moon 1's bonus tracks are essential listening imo. The title track lyrically portrays Cudi's feelings of alienation during the early part of his career, which is what the whole album is about. "Is There Any Love" is a banger outro as well.
You know its a good day when Onlysmallbites posts

Babe wake up onlsmallbites posted
Depeche Mode have many, many bonus tracks (14 out of their 15 albums have deluxe versions), hidden tracks, b-sides, non-album singles, and remixes, some of which include their top-tier tracks (Only When I Lose Myself, Shake The Disease, Kaleid, Behind The Wheel [Remix], My Joy, Agent Orange, Pleasure Little Treasure, etc.)
2:32 MAIN SOURCE MAIN SOURCE MAIN SOURCE MAIN SOURCE
My Chemical Romance usually has bonus tracks that somewhat die into their albums concept but doesn't fit the album's actual narrative besides rather than give additional context
Blood gives the listener what The Black Parade's protagonist; The Patient, was like during his stay in the hospital before the events of the album happens
Bury Me In Black is the male Demolition Lover tormented for eternity in Hell
Zero Percent gives extra insight into what the Killjoy lifestyle is like
We Don't Need Another Song About California gives us a small insight into what the post apocalyptic Danger Days California lifestyle is like
showing map of the soul 7 when you mentioned concept albums makes me very excited for your video on the topic in the future:)
Was just listening to "good kid mad city" the other day (and loved the bonus tracks on it. the recipe is a certified LA banger, on repeat 24/7). And I wondered if onlysmallbites had made a video on bonus tracks, only to find nothing. Then a couple of days later you made this as if peering into my mind 🤯🤯. Thanks for such a great video! 👍
9:28 OMG IS THAT JOYWAVE'S 88888 MIXTAPE IN THE BACKGROUND!?!?!?! that is SUCH a deep cut! love to see a fellow Joywave enjoyer :) i haven't listened to that in a while, i'm gonna relisten to it
Okay kids, time to talk about *Deftones.*
So this band recorded their most ambitious album at that moment, White Pony. yet their record label, Maverick, wanted a single that sells well to promote it. Somehow they hear the final track's chorus and said "hmmm this is a potential banger track" so they asked the boys to record something more conventional nu metal based around it. This is how Chino and company speedran a track, Back To School, by making the most cliché nu metal things they could. And it worked! The exes loved it, and they decided to not only release it as a promo track but add it as a bonus bruteforced into White Pony, killing the album pacing. And the worst part? The added it at the damn start of the album instead of the end (i guess in a way to bookend the project as both Back to School and Pink Maggit have the same chorus basically). No one liked it, and hell, Back to School didn't even charted. Ironically Digital Bath and Change were better received and acclaimed when released as singles, both actually charting, and the track Elite won a Grammy. Today White Pony is considered one of Deftones' best albums, if not their very best, but not thanks to Back to School.
Also White Pony ended in this weird point the most complete version of it has a bonus track at the start and one at its end, as eventually the Boys Republic was added as a bonus track at its end for Japan markets. It's odd as The Boys Republic isn't a bad track but surely kills the pacing of the project, considering Pink Maggit is a perfect closer.
Love your videos man keep it up they really inspire and teach me something new every day
For a hidden track video you can talk about Beck's albums throughout the 90s. They all had interesting hidden tracks when you left the CD on after the "last song". Diamond Bollocks is my favorite
Diamond Bollocks so peak
one of my fave examples of bonus would be on deftones “around the fur” with MX, after the initial song ending at 4:37 and then the next 20 mins of just silence then the bonus song “Damone” starts playing around the 32 min mark of the track
I think one of the odd bonus tracks I remember are the ones from Blink-182's Take Off Your Pants And Jacket, which had three versions in circulation that each had 2 bonus tracks.
This man needs so much more recognition it’s crazy
I was really expecting 2007 off of the forever story by JID because it was supposed to be on to album but had to be removed because of some samples, but was added on the expanded version of the album. And that isn't the deluxe album for those who think it is the deluxe he added it so you can listen to the full album including the deleted song
I love that you mentioned the cassette version of Digital Underground’s Sex Packets having bonus tracks, cos it reminded me of the cassette version of the Above the Rim soundtrack having one of the best 2Pac songs as a bonus (Pain). It was heard at the start of the film and finally got released onto streaming services almost two years ago.
Also, LL Cool J’s Walking with a Panther was released with not only just two bonus tracks on the CD version but even two MORE bonuses on the cassette.
YESSS I WAS EARLY TO AN ONLYSMALLBITES DROP
can you do video game osts next?
also, affirmably first. i watched this 18 secs after release
the ending was genius
My favorite bonus Tracks on a Album are Of Course & Zoom from Pink Tape
Small addition to your part about the history of bonus tracks. Bonus tracks were actually a thing way back in the 40s and 50s as well, first to get people from shellacs to vinyl and later to get people from 10 inch records to 12 inch ones. A few albums like in the wee small hours by Frank Sinatra and some Hank Williams albums have extra tracks on the 12 inch version of the record.
Other Japan Exclusives include :
Bittersweet Poetry - Kanye West (Graduation)
Swagger International - Pharrell Williams (In My Mind)
im so sad that the david bowie bonus track isnt on spotify especially since its a really good song and theres no need for it not to be on there 😡
congrats on the Mysterious Game of Crypticism feature!! when I saw it i shat bricks
Can’t wait to see Smallbites tackle the Sonic 1 special stages
Theres another bonus track on graduation called bittersweet poetry and it’s really good and it’s exclusive to japan
5:38 yes. You said it right bites.
6:18 deadmau5 moment
Apparently, the track Out Of Hand by Entombed was only on the explicit version of Wolverine Blues (in the US, there was no clean version in the UK).
I think I've only ever found one album that had any bonus tracks which didn't overshadow sections of the main album, like for example on Origin of Symmetry by Muse the bonus track Futurism absolutely demolishes a good chunk of the main album but on something like The Future Bites by Steven Wilson you can kinda see why some tracks got cut (except you In Pieces and Eyewitness I love you)
Hope you clear that special stage!
I think the best example of bonus tracks is Tyler, the creator’s “CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST: The Estate Sale” where all of the bonus tracks completely outshone the original album (in my opinion)
Clicked before the notification XD
Love your content! Keep it up!
one of my favorite hidden tracks comes from danzig's 4th album Danzig 4 or Danzig 4p. They decided to lean into their terrible reputation with parents by adding 65 blank 4 second tracks, and the 66th being a track called invocation. if you had the right kind of CD player, you would be able to see "66 61:38" on it. the 138 also was probably a misfits reference.
Okay, am I the only one that realized this, but on 7:18, they played the instrumental for instructor moosesha from Parappa the Rapper 2!
The intro just hits everytime💥
Modest mouse had bonus tracks on the vinyl versions of lonesome crowded west and good news for people who love bad news, both trackss are fire btw
Ah yes. Another onlysmallbites video. :)
super bass by nicki was also a bonus track which was pretty crazy
im a simple man. onlysmallbites drops a video and i watch.
I always felt as though bonus tracks are the tracks that weren't good enough for the main album, but good enough for the light of day, and that there are even worse, even less finished tracks left on the cutting room floor.
the around the fur secret track is wild. youd have to wait like 30 mins to hear it
wasn’t expecting the new Waterparks album to show up in this video but that was fun to see lol
We’re waiting for the utopia recap🙏🙏🙏
Olivia Rodrigo just did this with her hidden tracks on the Target vinyls of GUTS- which they’re saying will be part of the deluxe later on!
I think the backround music from this video is from jet set radio that’s sick!
Thank you for using music from Fuzion Frenzy and Jet Set Radio for the BG music
Solid ending XD Love it!
Video idea: trilogy/collection albums
Galactic Cowboys stuck "Ranch on Mars/Still Life of Peace" on the "Space in Your Face" and Eldritch gave us the masterful "Nebula Surface" on the last track of "El Nino".
I like the story of the hidden track Endless, Nameless by Nirvana. Though they did play it live in January 1991 for the first time, it was during the recording of another song from Nevermind, Lithium, where this track would have its studio version. The band kept failing to get Lithium right. Kurt Cobain told Butch Vig, their producer, to keep recording as they went apeshit in the studio for about 6 and a half minutes. You can even hear him smashing his guitar near the end.
Copies of Nevermind without the hidden track are a little rare, as there were only 20,000 of the very first pressings that excluded it on accident.
Also a funny fact: some people refunded their CDs because they thought it was broken after they heard the hidden track. Others thought that their multi-disc players were broken because the next CD didn't start playing, not knowing that Something in the Way has 10 mins of silence before Endless, Nameless kicks in.
I disagree about the concept album thing, I think that concept albums make the most sense to have bonus tracks; stuff that was made during the sessions, didn't quite fit, but were too good to not share.
Love your stuff and i didnt even know that with asap r. and igor
9:03 Not the Britney Spears albums omg... she did it for every SINGLE album she put until Femme Fatale, and maybe the worst one would be Circus. She put 5 legit (non remixes) bonus tracks on 5 different editions.
You sort of touched on this with Juice Wrld, but there’ll be some albums like Marina’s The Family Jewels and Electra Heart which mix up the tracklist on the deluxe version, integrating the bonus tracks with the main ones.
And, Marina released a 10YA edition of Electra Heart, where two new tracks were added and she reassorted the track list… again. So, there’s like 3 “canon” versions of the Electra Heart tracklist.
I think Donda and its Deluxe version are a much more popular example of this, though.
Also, the world of Target exclusive deluxe editions is interesting. Flipside on Lana Del Rey’s Ultraviolence is one that immediately comes to mind.
Basically, soft core “unreleased” tracks that are behind CD only, besides the people that put up the songs on UA-cam anyways.
Your videos are informative but yet funny. Im binging. Lol
the thumbnail is awesome❤
Bro Britney Spears fans are just… different
Imagine buying Six versions of a the same album.
Twice
Late Registration I feel is like one of those albums that I hate having the bonus tracks at the end. Gone is such a perfect ender man
How is Foster the People’s Supermodel and Joywave’s 88888 on the collection of vinyls at 9:18? Are you in my walls?
what happened to the guy on the left in the good kid m.a.a.d city cover at 7:46?????
I feel like bonus track is quite rare these days. I just thinking bonus track is equivalent to deluxe version. and hideen track is usually you wait till the end of the 5 min song lol. listening to an album is a whole experience 😊
there are instances where the bonus tracks are better album closers than the original album closer. like the Japanese edition of album of the year by faith no more.
I feel like deadmau5 is the king of bonus tracks. Seems like every year he has multiple bonus tracks, secret tracks, and just extra goodies. For example he just released a song called Apnea on Limewire which is now unfortunately a crypto company
My favorite bonus track of all time is Happy Cycling by Boards of Canada. I originally listen to Music Has the Right to Children without knowing that it was a bonus track, but holy fucking shit does it close off the album so well
Wait that's a bonus track
@@burger322 Yup
great video as always! I haven’t been watching you for too long but the animation & content of your videos are fantastic and really entertaining. great work again Onlysmallbites
That ending was amazing
this is like a poor-man's version of a deluxe album.
I hate only physical edition tracks, I NEED to hear the rest without paying extra
They feel like unreleased songs at that point, and often become somewhat of iceberg material for most fanbases because of how they fade into obscurity for the casual listener.
0:44 Hey! Im th3e Marley dude from the email and Thats my art from the poster btw. I am so happy to be in a youtube video lol. I hope you pin me bites hehe❤
Hey Small Bites, Give this man what he deserves >:(
bonus tracks use to also on those compilation CDs that used to come free with magazines or newspapers, if you’re from the UK or Ireland you’d get what i’m waffling about. i am unable to find them anywhere else, especially information about them and their writers/producers/artists. maybe those songs are somewhat lost media or smth or if their writers/producers/artists are currently MIA. they’re pretty obscure and i’m pretty sure those songs were only made for those cds, does anyone know what i’m on about
My favorite bonus track is golden girl off of the physical version of Channel Orange
surprised you didn't bring up how albums in the 00s you often had to buy two copies for different tracks (Chronicles of Life and Death for example)
I love the sonic references btw
I remember bonus tracks being a big deal to Best Buy. Anyone remember all of those damn Best Buy exclusive edition CDs?
osb, gotta ask what is that amazing intro music
on the Japanese version of The Downward Spiral by NIN, the bonus track is a cover of Joy Division's Dead Souls, shoved between Big Man With a Gun and A Warm Place. which is pretty weird imo but I guess it's better than putting it at the end of the album after Hurt…
my favorite bonus tracks are late, bittersweet poetry and the recipe they are really the best
Top tier content creator
Well producers hate bonus tracks & deluxe albums cuz, of course, money. But idk if it’s still true today cuz it was years ago & the music industry changes constantly, the labels will only pay for a certain amount of tracks to make it on the album. You can make as many as possible but everyone collaborates to nail it down to the exact paid amount. Be it 10-14 tracks. Thus bonus tracks, remixes & demos are born when they don’t make it on the album. I think the reason why “bonus tracks” are now on albums cuz the artist is coming out the pocket to pay for them to be on there. But I’m not sure if any of this is true or still is buuut that’s what I got from being just a music fan.
Looking forward to the Hidden Tracks vid.
I wonder why Japan has a lot of special editions, I still can’t cope with Bittersweet poetry
Hey there, could you maybe make a video on Thundercat's album drunk? Something like "Thundercat's Drunk in 60 seconds". I love that type of video
Alive 2007 by daft punk had daft punks best song as a bonus track
4:43 waterparks jump scare
Mr.Morale and The Big Steppers has a bonus track it’s The Heart Pt 5 right ?
I guess kind of but it was originally a single and got added after album released
