we never needed a sequel to this. The original should have won every award
The new movie is based on the musical. It isn't a sequel.

Not kidding when this is the first movie that brought me to tears. When I watched other movies I cried a little bit, but this actually got me balling my eyes out.
The Color Purple is a classic and will never get old. Can't wait to see Color Purple 2.
Not me, they should leave this classic alone. Not at all happy with a reboot of this classic.
So y’all jus gonna forget everything Oprah did, and is doing, and go and support her movie? Remember she’s a billionaire, and all the actors have already been paid. Boycott the movie, until they do right by Hawaii, and all those missing children they are sacrificing to Satan. This is all a distraction. It’s calculated folks. WAKE UP!
It’s not a sequel. It’s a remake. I was doubtful too but Oprah said that you get more insight into what Celie is thinking and feeling.
It is a perfect movie already though.

A master piece of cinema.
I doubt if I understood the movie back when I watched it first time except few scenes here and there. As always few things I resonated with and some struck me as sort of deep connection within. I couldnt tell why what etc. But I think I greatly admired the Goldberg's acting probably most times thinking she had zero chance in acting where I lived. What a wonder it was for me. And that mattered to me. A wonder more wonderous than Taj Mahal. Really. I didnt lie at all in those days. Not even a single lie.

This movie arguably been due a remake(They say you shouldn't touch the classics but honestly I am kinda curious as to how a new one would be and if it could improve on the original) but.....

It’s not a remake of this film as a musical, it’s an adaptation of the Broadway musical based on the book
I just saw the musical version and I promise you it was phenomenal. All of the songs felt purposeful, in place, and helped move the story along. And all of the actors have incredibly powerful voices. Now I haven’t seen the original in a really long time so my memory is fuzzy but I guarantee the musical does this one justice and then some.

I can only wish to see a movie in that kind of theatre now. It just doesn't feel that way anymore. I start feeling empty and then it all feels like a loss.

How can a fictional movie based on a novel written over 40 years ago about a abused black woman from the early 20th century America, destroy the Black family? In 1985 Oprah was little known...just starting her career.
