Toby’s Rhodes mastery is out of this world. Intricate yet sounds So simple and open . It leaves the song a lot of room to breathe and highlight Zender’s balls-to-the wall funk bass grooves
It's interesting because even though it seems so simple (specially rhythmically), what makes his playing complex is the amount of on-the-fly variation he has when playing
I love that bassline. It rides the edge of almost being too busy, but never crosses it, creating a rhythmic tension and release with space. It's brilliant and savagely funky.
To this day nobody has done a deep dive on how incredible this bass line is. It shouldn't work but it does...that's to say it's so complicated, flashy, and busy that it should be drowning out the rest of the song...but somehow it doesn't. It gets to sit and show off but still be subtle enough to be in the background. It's amazing.
I feel like it plays against the conga/timbale parts and that's why it doesn't stick out too much even though it's busy. also, the tone is really cool.
Utterly wonderful. This eclipses the album version. My favourite tune from the band who changed my life as a 16yo jazzhead. RIP Toby. thank you Stu for those space baselines. Never the same band after you left.
Jamiroquai lost it's neo soul/jazz (whatever you want to call it) flavour when Toby quit. It all got a bit too disco pop after that. Original line up nailed it, thanks for the upload Stuart!
So true. May be good music, but it's definitely not the same. It changed a lot when Stu left too! They made some really good songs after his departure, but it was never the same. :)
Not to mention even before that, when Stu left! Can't take it away from Jay Kay and the rest though. It's still great music, but it's something entirely different.
Jamiroquai have just turned into Simply Red, sadly. I miss the old days where it was like a proper band, you could hear the influences of differing members.
Love the original (still my favourite J. track).. but this version is awesome - bass/keys don't get so lost behind the vocals, great hearing the music taking more prominence!
I really enjoy listening to some of the old jazz funk vibe that Jamiroquai used to have. The best line up for me will always be Jay, Toby, Stu, Derrick and Wallis.
Wow, listen to those Jazz chords! I loved Toby Smith's style. When he went, Jamiroquai lost it's cool chill/funk feeling. Those chords are so sweet! Bass is spot on as always too.
Have you gone astray? Or lost your way? You should have seen me yesterday Well I knew this kind of love Was written in the stars It's only once or twice that you're in line with Mr. Moon Then there was you You took me on your cloud Gave me flowers for my pain But with some degree of certainty My destiny Seemed to slip away from me Before I got to know your name Just give me a chance I'll do what you want me to Everybody wants to dance So how come I can't dance with you You really turn me on You're the one that makes me smile It's Mr Moon who plays in tune, Mr Moon who knows And if it's Mr Moon who gives the sign then that's the sign that goes I never know what to do Till I'm there with you Did you lose your mind But for a day You don't remember…
Just an outstanding 🎵 that just transports one into another dimension of happiness 🕺🏾💃🏽✨️💃🏽🎆🪄. That magical moment of dreams & wishes in❤ to be brought into that place of Eternal bliss in Moonlight 🌕🌛✨️ Jamiroquai knows how to shift one's mood into higher consciousness ✨️✨️🌠🌠💛♥️
The ever enigmatic Jamiroquai chord progressions... One of the best examples for that matter, you guys invented something there! What a tight unit yet loose at the right amount never sounding mechanical and repetitive, this is just genius..Stu I just have to know! who came up with these crazy progressions?
Damn! Definitely a bygone era mate. Thanks for sharing and reminding just how tight a unit you guys were🤘🤘🤘. Back in 94', this track alone compelled me to pick up a bass! Cheers!!
DAT bass sound. C'est véritablement un des morceaux qui m'a donné envie de jouer de la basse, merci Stu pour l'influence que tu as eu sur moi! Respect from France
bass line is snappy & thirsty always starting it on the up beat & thus finding different notes on the up beat is the beginning of playing bass behind the beat , though guys like ourselves, who are just outside the big big circuit sometimes go through early stages of never quite getting all the way down enough on the bigger big beat notes , dope bass line great song ,
These Chords...That Bass Line...That Voice...Miss Da Old Jamiroquai Vibe... RIP Toby...
This song changed my life.
Favorite Jamiroquai song. So underrated.
Pero si es guaro perico popper 2c sexo
Probably is the most underrated song of them
True, My fav JK tune too!
Same, especially when they performed it in Brazil 1997 !
Stuart is a genius
It’s March 2024 and these songs are still funky and jazzy!!!
The old Jamiroquai crew puts me in a trance. Words merely cannot express how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE this.

I will never forget the first time I heard this song...pure magic
These bass&rhodes lines give me goosebumps, that’s just so amazing.
I love that bassline. It rides the edge of almost being too busy, but never crosses it, creating a rhythmic tension and release with space. It's brilliant and savagely funky.

Stu was 20 years old when they recorded Return Of The Space Cowboy - incredible!
Utterly wonderful. This eclipses the album version. My favourite tune from the band who changed my life as a 16yo jazzhead. RIP Toby. thank you Stu for those space baselines. Never the same band after you left.
I miss you guys. One of the baddest, tightest bands to come out.
I miss you in Jamiroquai Mr. Zender
We all do!!
If that ain't edited, it's one masterful recording.
The percussion is gorgeous...
Those sweet Toby's chords
This song is a masterwork in Acid Jazz!
This is Funk music
I would definetely add some acid jazz to this songs definiton.@@DaveRylenkov
Acid funk
One of the best acid jazz and funk songs ever made
This song is more funk than acid jazz.
My favorite song of Jay Kay, I sing this song very loud 🎶🎶🎶
in my opinion Jamiroquai best tune
Stu Zender you legend. Thank you for these! You are the bass god!
I love the album version but god dammit this version is 10 times better
Cool 🤙🎶
Jamiroquai lost it's neo soul/jazz (whatever you want to call it) flavour when Toby quit. It all got a bit too disco pop after that. Original line up nailed it, thanks for the upload Stuart!
clavdig ... They lost it before A funk odessey...Turbo-Disco and Hard electro-dance beats won in favour of neo-soul/bassanova jazz funk.
So true. May be good music, but it's definitely not the same. It changed a lot when Stu left too! They made some really good songs after his departure, but it was never the same. :)
Not to mention even before that, when Stu left! Can't take it away from Jay Kay and the rest though. It's still great music, but it's something entirely different.
first Nick, then Stu, then Toby and it was the end of the good Jamiroquai, Paul and Matt are fantastic session musicians but they just work for JK
Jamiroquai have just turned into Simply Red, sadly. I miss the old days where it was like a proper band, you could hear the influences of differing members.
now thats a definitive jamiroquai tune..RIP toby what a jazzy solo
RIP Toby Smith
😔
It still hurts
This song and "Alright" always got me. Those are the songs you can actually see Jay, Stuart, Toby, Sola and Derrick having a great time.
I miss so much this soulful Jamiroquai era...Damm. so much loooooove just like the song says...
Mr Zender is bringing back the memories of that bad azz base line....kudos!
Love the original (still my favourite J. track).. but this version is awesome - bass/keys don't get so lost behind the vocals, great hearing the music taking more prominence!
Its called dynamic range ;)
I really enjoy listening to some of the old jazz funk vibe that Jamiroquai used to have. The best line up for me will always be Jay, Toby, Stu, Derrick and Wallis.
This band... in these days... best I've ever heard, miss those days
this version should be on the album
What a great track
bas, piano, percussion, drums and great voice - that's all you need to make a perfect sound, no effects, no autotune, pure genius and talent! love it!
Wow, listen to those Jazz chords! I loved Toby Smith's style. When he went, Jamiroquai lost it's cool chill/funk feeling. Those chords are so sweet! Bass is spot on as always too.
Cherish!!

my lord this version made me cry thank you Stu 💓 love forever
🚀🔥🔥🔥memory lane stu is out of this world
Have you gone astray?
Or lost your way?
You should have seen me yesterday
Well I knew this kind of love
Was written in the stars
It's only once or twice that you're in line with Mr. Moon
Then there was you
You took me on your cloud
Gave me flowers for my pain
But with some degree of certainty
My destiny
Seemed to slip away from me
Before I got to know your name
Just give me a chance
I'll do what you want me to
Everybody wants to dance
So how come I can't dance with you
You really turn me on
You're the one that makes me smile
It's Mr Moon who plays in tune, Mr Moon who knows
And if it's Mr Moon who gives the sign then that's the sign that goes
I never know what to do
Till I'm there with you
Did you lose your mind
But for a day
You don't remember…
Thank God for growing up in the 90's!
Just an outstanding 🎵 that just transports one into another dimension of happiness 🕺🏾💃🏽✨️💃🏽🎆🪄. That magical moment of dreams & wishes in❤ to be brought into that place of Eternal bliss in Moonlight 🌕🌛✨️
