It’s her insincerity, I speak broadly. I think it covers what has been said in the many comments under this video. The vibe people get is insincerity, partly a facade, partly she has convinced herself of things that aren’t true about herself (like that she’s disadvantaged).
@@GuyGuysonHimselfyes. Also, for me I have issue with a girl with such limited life experience dealing out advice as she does. Ends up being wrong, she gets called out on it. It’s a whole thing.
@@_letstartariot I pick up the same thing. I feel like she is hiding her true self because she knows it’s not palatable for a general audience. Imo, she comes off as someone who doesn’t actually care about something unless it relates to her, and I don’t think she actually believes in or means what she says. Of course I don’t really know, I’m just speaking on some vibes I got. I’d be nice if I was wrong though.
You missed my two favorites; her saying that she loves her parents so much and wouldn’t know what she’d do without them, only for her to say that she’s cut off her family entirely mere months later; and my personal favorite, her saying that she’s taking a break from dating and that with all of these relationship failure stories she’s been telling that it was finally time for her to be alone with some introspection for awhile which everyone wholeheartedly agreed with and supported her in! But then she went MIA for 3 months and came back with a video saying “I have a new boyfriend and we’re starting a restaurant together!” And once people had backlash about it referencing the previous video all she really had to say for it was “thanks for worrying, it’s none of your business, everyone needs to think about why they’re so angry, and it’s because you’re jealous you can’t chase your dreams like me.”
Did she just seriously just call twenty year olds who are barely able to survive, HUSTLERS?! She literally mooches off her parents, WHOM SHE STOPPED TALKING TO because they had a different opinions, and is trying, but FAILING in playing victim, her parents sent her to a VERY great school that THEY pay for, she’s like if Hallmark had a child. Just because you have a deep voice doesn’t mean your automatically deep.
@@soonsuicidal yeah she stopped talking to her parents because THEY HAD DIFFERENT OPINIONS!! Me and my family have different opinions, I’m not gonna stop talking to them over something as stupid as having different opinions. What the HELL is wrong with her?
when you're rich, you think everyone is rich. when you're poor, you think everyone is poor. She is a product of her environment. But she does need a good reality check and probably preaching about how disadvantaged you are and giving out life lessons while cooking isn't the best idea. Just talking about your techniques, what you've learned, and inspiration for your ideas. If you let a fool talk long enough, they'll expose themselves. A great example of how to behave, Nick digiovanni. People can hate how privileged he grew up, but he has never once complained and brooded in his videos like Dooby does. The only thing you can do as a privileged kid is take advantage of your opportunities and stay appreciative and positive about the things you DO have and keep on keeping on.
It weird that she acts as if she hold resentment and bitterness about them. I wouldn’t be annoy that they are rich but if their character is rude and out of touch
After hearing/reading about her fully privileged upbringing and having a social safety net basically because she has rich parents who fully support her, it seems her parents might have also enabled her behavior because she basically acts on impulse and just spends and does what she wants, like fly first class anywhere. Maybe she is able to "rebel" more from her parents and do what she wants against their wishes because she has the Tiktok and UA-cam influencer money now. But with her running away at the first sign of struggle/issues with her restaurant and quitting on her business instead of sticking with it dealing head on with issues, it's quite telling that she was in it for the social media/entrepreneurial clout or to expand her influencer brand. It wasnt because of the actual desire to become a chef and documenting that experience (which requires very loooong hours and lots of physical labor). Quitting at the first instance of obstacle also means she has never had to struggle and have the discipline to stick with one thing that doesnt go smoothly/perfectly - maybe because she never had to make things work, she always had her parents' support. She seems like a runner honestly.
thing is, she wasn't even the one doing all the hard work in the kitchen it was her boyfriend who had to do everything she just helped him bc he doesnt speak korean lol
I think it's funny how she complains about other's privilege when she literally mentioned that her mom was a doctor (or maybe a dentist? nonetheless quite well off) and that her family sent her abroad in hs to america. Then she studied at an ivy league university and complains she has no options? Girl please 🙄
Dooby is cool most of the time, but she tries so hard to sound like someone she's not when she narrates her videos. She tries to sound super articulate but a lot of the times it just sounds like a bunch of cliché writing trying to impress her favorite English professor. She's probably better off just getting straight to the point when she talks.
She also could've deleted it because it could be used against her in court. I saw lots of people telling her to take it down for reasons like that. I don't agree with her claims on the situation.
Honestly I think a part of her just wanted to be American and cool. I could be projecting but it’s easy to get this kind of wannabe complex from going to boarding school and college in the US as a foreigner. I think everything she’s doing now is just to show that she’s international, hip, and different. Different from her fellow international Korean students who graduate college to work at Deloitte
What annoys me about her is her Hallmark wisdom that she spits out. The videos themselves are interesting, I like food content. But her ‘inspirational’ monologues come across as insincere for a multitude of reasons.
She made comment about how her parents were working class, meanwhile her parents are acclaimed dentists, she drives a Mercedes, and she went to cooking school in a different country then dropped out because it wasn’t exciting enough for her. And then I think about my life and my family, and how we got kicked out of my childhood home and it got repossessed because we couldn’t pay the mortgage due to my dad’s extensive hospital bills. How we moved into a smaller house, where my bedroom was the closet in my parents room and my brothers room was a small corner of the kitchen, blocked off only with a curtain, the bathroom had black mold growing in it, and the house itself was invaded by insects all the time because the windows didn’t shut properly. “Working class” huh Gina. According to you, our families are both working class but we both lived very different lives. Now tell me who really is the working class family.
it's always the same with these upper middle class kids. their parents try their hardest to keep them afloat after they fail, then they get bored and cycle until they find something that'll validate them enough. i don't mind her content and think she's pretty good at what she does, it's just insufferable when people try to act relatable.
Its actually so funny coming across these because I got fed up with listening to her content over a year ago and this is the first vid I’ve seen regarding her since. Im glad we’re all on the same page, the woman is insufferable

There's good cooking channels like Binging with Babish, You Suck At Cooking, Epicurious, etc. proving that there's still plenty of ways to do something new and different within that genre. Most people just lack the creativity and drive to do so.

@bijjjjj yeah, wasn't it about some petty beauty standards disagreement or something? The stupidest thing to separate from your parents about. I have some DEEP family issues but we are still family, still together and at the end of the day we all have eachothers backs regardless of any circumstances.
You know those smart kids in school who would be “sad” because they only got 90 instead of 95 or 98? Well she’s basically them. In one video she mentioned that growing up and seeing her parents have healthy relationships ruined her own relationships because she would always compare herself to them. While that may be a genuine concern of hers but the tone in which she said it…it was almost like she was UPSET her parents had a healthy relationship. Like seriously what world does she live in???
Don’t get me wrong, I love her food content. However, I sometimes think she tries to be deeper than what her content is to stand out. When in reality she is actually coming off more tone deaf than relatable 😅
She's legit a whole peach kdrama main character. Very rich but surprise surprise she doesn't like that and we can't hate her bcccc she is a very good cook.
As a fellow asian, we're good at judging other asians with our bs detectors. And I always knew her and zoeunlimited were odd some off. Her crazy dystopian life videos are proof she was just too privileged and out of touch. My bs detector towards other asians is NEVER wrong.
I do like her cooking videos a lot and I wish she would talk about relevant topics in her videos instead of forcing her non existent wisdom on impressionable audiences who want to believe she is as good of a person as she is with her cooking. I always thought that her words sounded weirdly empty and assumed she was a nepo baby because rich kids never really have to learn how to use their brains (or grow up) unlike regular people who usually have to figure out her "wisdom" out at age 12 out of necessity. Can't lie tho I do get a kick out of watching her be amazed by her own words which usually are very rudimentary critiques on culture and society that normal people wouldn't blink an eye at lol
I love her content and character but shes kind of out of touch sometimes especially about her opening up a restaurant ,complaining how hard it was, traveling leaving her staff in the chaos and closing it after a year. Its screaming rich girl trying to relate to the masses
Me too, me too MATE! 🤣🤣🤣 I always feel something off watching her videos and couldn't put my finger on it. After watching this video analysis, i finally understood what is it about her that ticked me off. Nowadays, whenever youtube recommend her channel i quickly click DO NOT RECOMMEND 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Same. I used to watch her older videos and liked them enough. But something changed, or well at least for me, but I can't pinpoint the reason why I'm starting to get ick vibes. This video made me understand why.
She opened a restaurant just to close it after a while She says her "rich" friends have options and whatever The fact that she went to College then content creation then open a restaurant in korea just to say she can't do it anymore. Gurl- 💀
[please read this in a cultural context] dooby is a south korean who cuts off her parents and by extension, her family. that says A LOT about her personality on one aspect and if you watch her videos, the things she talk about while she's cooking (not just the topics but also her jokes) says a lot about her. like this is hard to articulate both in common words and academic hypothetical analysis on my part but i've always felt some sort of a red flag from her (which is not surprising bc a. she's an influencer and b. she's a chef and c. she's an influencer chef) like i'd have to make a whole essay to break down her online personality
Exactly. Stopped watching her a while ago. At first i was like, this is interesting content and then the more i heard her speak i realized yea... i dont like this person.
She also constantly talks about how being South Korean is a struggle…like bitch not only are you wealthy but Koreans are in rn. You are not facing the same struggle as a Filipino or Thai woman.

Love all these comments finally calling her out on her bs…. Another massive thing i cannot stand about her is how she always sprinkles in unnecessary (and albeit unfunny) innuendo jokes in all her shorts…
i really liked her when she was getting bigger and i’d watch all the shorts that would pop up on my recommended but that one short about privilege has rubbed me in such a wrong way that i can’t really look at her the same. i mean our struggles are relative and our experiences are valid, but come on. trying to present it in a “relatable” manner is just so tone-deaf
I really like doobydobap and her cooking is very good, but she’s always trying to be idk “deep” or “connect” with audience while being so incredibly privileged not just in the sense of wealth but smart and compassionate and healthy parents. I feel like she’s always victimizing herself not narcissistically but she genuinely believes that. She talks about her not being that privileged while driving an Audi and flying first class in a huge home. People are struggling to make ends meet and but basic human necessities to survive and she tries to relate by saying “oh yeah, ik how feel, I was once double booked and had to go from first class to business” but not with malice or trying to one-up you. She’s just out of the ouch with the reality of others who have none of the privilege that are so normal and basic to her she doesn’t understand that they are indeed privileges. I don’t want her to receive hate or anything but maybe she could educate herself more on the words economy and what’s it’s like to like off minimum wage in 2023
Initially I loved her content. But later on nothing made sense. I even heard she opened and shut her restaurant to pursue her UA-cam journey. Those are options only the entitled have 😂
She was obviously projecting when she was talking about her rich "friends" We all know damn well she's speaking from her own personal experience. Speaking of rich people having options she essentially had the option of having her restaurant fail because she definitely made a bunch of decisions that made no sense and would obviously lead to failure yet she did it anyway.
You know her restaurante is just money cash grab fron her audiences The more funny part is she used and did the same thing she used her advantage and privilege of being a rich influencer to gave herlsefwhatever she needs
it's one thing to not be aware of your privileges when youre a kid or teenager (i sure wasnt when i was 15), but a whole other thing to be a grownass adult with a massive internet audience and think you should talk about your "struggles" when so many who watch you might struggle to put food on the table. i dont know why its always so hard for people to accept that theyre privileged when they are and in whatever way they are. we are all privileged and disadvantaged in some way or the other and things wont change till we acknowledge it and do something about it

I’m sure not all rich people are this delusional but she is exactly like the rich people I went to school with. I don't hate her, nor love her. I do find her content good quality and rich in content but something about her irks me. Maybe it's the people pleasing, attention-seeking masked with 'being cool girl' or how much she craves to be admired by society
I feel the same way. She seems fine but there's something I'm picking up I can't really articulate.
It just kinda annoys me how she talks about random shit instead of the food she's actually cooking, lol. Like bro, you literally have a degree in food science. Please just tell us what you're doing and why you're doing it.
But then she went MIA for 3 months and came back with a video saying “I have a new boyfriend and we’re starting a restaurant together!” And once people had backlash about it referencing the previous video all she really had to say for it was “thanks for worrying, it’s none of your business, everyone needs to think about why they’re so angry, and it’s because you’re jealous you can’t chase your dreams like me.”

when you're rich, you think everyone is rich. when you're poor, you think everyone is poor.
Correct. Nick digiovanni is EXACTLY the right born-rich influencer that's actually likable and skillful without trying to be relatable like dooby
@@Sheila-from-MCGI I didn't even know he was born rich... personality was too loud for me to even take full notice I guess, and that's how it's best
The restaurant thing is news to me. Wasn't she starting it with her boyfriend? 😮

I think it's funny how she complains about other's privilege when she literally mentioned that her mom was a doctor (or maybe a dentist? nonetheless quite well off) and that her family sent her abroad in hs to america. Then she studied at an ivy league university and complains she has no options? Girl please 🙄
Even more her parents were dentists and ran their own practice
Dooby is cool most of the time, but she tries so hard to sound like someone she's not when she narrates her videos. She tries to sound super articulate but a lot of the times it just sounds like a bunch of cliché writing trying to impress her favorite English professor. She's probably better off just getting straight to the point when she talks.
That's the same feeling I got from her UA-cam shorts videos. She tries to sound so deep and meaningful but it's just superficial cliché stuff.
As an English graduate TA, I can confirm we are not impressed by cliche writing.

I think everything she’s doing now is just to show that she’s international, hip, and different. Different from her fellow international Korean students who graduate college to work at Deloitte
She’s very very pretty tho probably 99.5% of the reason she took off. If she was an average looking girl she would not have taken off so easily
