How to stop deadly palm bronzing disease spread by bugs across Florida

- Nothing says Florida like beautiful palm trees, but palms around Tampa Bay and Florida show warning signs of trouble. The culprit is the lethal bronzing disease. signs to look for include an early fruit drop, the spear leaf at the top of the tree falling out, and eventually the bronze coloring of the fronds. The disease is spread by an insect called a plant hopper. Once a tree is infected, its decline is noticeable in about three months. Experts say to remove the infected tree so it cannot further the spread of the disease. Nearby uninfected trees may be treated with antibiotics injected every three to four months.

Anyone else notice how these palms that are affected are mostly grown in lawn? Could have something to do with chemical fertilizer, pushing the plant to grow faster than it would normally want to and therefore it’s a stressor to the plant. Lawn fertilizer is a quick release, whereas palms need a slow release fertilizer preferrably Organic. I also tend to call bullshit on the claim that it’s not spreading north because of palm density, it’s probably just at the insect is killed by cold. This reminds me of Dutch elm disease, which is spread by a beetle, but the underlying factor was the pollution.
Dude- that’s a great observation
You make a few great points
Not only does it take away from the beauty of such areas, holy cow, that's an expensive loss too! Hopefully they will be able to determine how to keep the critters from spreading.
PLEASE!!! IF YOU HAVE A LAWN/SHRUB CARE SERVICE AND THIS HAPPENS TO YOUR PALM PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT NATURE HAPPENS AND NOT EVERYTHING CAN BE FIXED...
How can you tell if the tree has this? They all look almost normal...
This sucks! I work in agriculture and I have come across this a lot along with Phoenix Palm decline. But it's always my fault that the Palm died even after explaining that there is no known cure...🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Because of the economic crisis and the rate of unemployment, now is the best time to invest and make money.

Ha palm injections are more then 50 dollars unless it’s a whole community with a1000 trees I used to charge 120 for a medium royal palm
The bug will kill the palm trees so we won't be able to have swamp cabbage any more.

The beautiful palm trees…….that are not native to North American shores. Lol they were imported to the mainland a long time ago.
Wrong. There’s around 12 species of Palms native to FL.
@@Weezy.Sleazy love your response. It's as if some people don't realize that much of the gulf coast is tropical and subtropical. 👍
