I rebuilt some wellgos last week and had a heck of a time tightening the locknut against the cone nut. Found out i had to jam one part of a tweezer against the cone nut while tighten locknut.
They are a little tricky. I find backing the 10mm back on itself and the 8mm down and playing with it until it locks up. I do like your tweezer idea, though. Could speed up the process 🤔 👍
Nice one. I've got a set of Shimano DX platform SPDs in bits on my bench, that have been sitting there for weeks after my first attempt to service them. I couldn't work out how to tighten the locknut against the cone without overpreloading the bearings in the process. Maybe I'll try again with this video to hand when I do!
100% mate nip down the inner 10mm nut buy hand lock down the 8mm then back off the 10mm against the 8mm. Even I do abit of back and forth with them 🤣 give it a go and let me know how you get on with them mate 👍
@@BikeShedBoy woohoo I did it. Took a bit of improvisation: screwed down the cone loosely. Tightened down the locknut with the socket. Then jammed a flathead screwdriver down the side of them so it was flush against one of the flat sides of the cone nut. Held it there while I turned the spindle with the pedal spanner, this backing off the cone against the locknut. I couldn't think of any other way to do it. Maybe if I'd had a deeper 10mm socket that would have gone over the locknut and gripped the cone nut, but anyway I got there 😅🙌🏻
@samblenkharn8099 Bloody awesome 👌 glad you got them running again 👍 so pleased I can be of some help, and may it continue with all the work I have coming up. Great work on your pedals 👏

I had these on my bike that was stolen in the early 90's, my cages were really battered from riding off road
Absolutely awesome pedals, just a little pain to service. Always run mint afterwards. These ones I have are not in bad condition at all. 👍
