The works of the late Hong Kong graffiti writer Tsang Tsou-choi are being given a new lease on life thanks to efforts by the local art community to restore and preserve his art. The graffiti by the self-proclaimed “King of Kowloon”, who died in 2007 at the age of 85, used to be considered vandalism and was covered and painted over. Now a new generation of visual artists are taking inspiration from Tsang’s work.

In the back of my mind, I know it is graffiti, but when I have seen his work hundreds of times around the city, there's a certain comfort there, and it's not an eyesore.
Artist are the saddest expressionist in the world, when they are alive they are under appreciated, live in poverty, sleep on the streets and begging to survive. If they are lucky they are being found in their late 80's, only when they die ..... millions and billions are offered to take away piece of their work, and in death they are sing to high notes and became either legend or deity which means nothing anymore to them that has permanently left earth. People only notice when they are gone and never give that kind of honor when they are alive.
WONDERFUL COMMENT SO TRUE... BUT FOR THE ARTIST ITS ANOUT THE JOURNEY AND GOFT TO THE REST OF THE WORLD.
Tsang's family don't recognize his work, now they don't gain anything from his masterpiece.
Graffiti always make any city better. Is proof of human soul in that lifeless concrete.
Depends. Would you like dickpics in your home walls?
Superbly said!
So poetic
Hard disagree. It really depends on the place. A huge graffiti on an immaculate white marble building would be an eyesore , but sure on a lifeless subway column it can be an addition. It's really variable i'd say
Love his calligraphy. Whether orthodox calligraphers agree or not, his artwork does still falls under calligraphy. There are define start and end to his work. And there's an structure and systematic form. More importantly it is distinctly colloquial and organic, which makes it cultural and invaluable
It is not calligraphy. The writing is child's writing. The vocab is very limited and repetitive. He has an obsession with angular shapes and arrangement and crowded space. Maybe that's the only way he felt safe. And for some reason, he never learnt the characters for numbers 7 & 8.
Neither a poet as he writes the same things over and over again. No expressions or messages.
He just had OCD.
But if you like it, then keep it. No harm at all. But there really is no intrinsic value to it.
@@PChan-yt4uf value is determined by whoever deem there's value. Besides, lot of artists thrive on repetitive shapes and style, that's a feature, not a bug. Also kids can create art too no. And no one is saying what he wrote has literary value to them. Why not have an open mind to push the boundaries of what you can appreciate
@@dzus Not necessary to pretend to appreciate things I really don't. Real artists knew what they are doing and why they want a certain shape or whatever. And they create new things. This guy was just doing the same thing over and over, out of habit and compulsion.

@@PChan-yt4uf ya of course, u get to deicide what u like. Not asking anyone to pretend to like it. I don't think anyone is
何が書いてあるかはわからないけど、めちゃくちゃかっこよく見える…たしかに落書きかもしれないけれど、今日英語で書かれたストリートアートよりずっと素敵だ
Well done-should be perserved .RIP( for the artist )
Great story, love the art.
Beautiful work I LOVE GRAFFITI ✨
He never accepted British colonial rule. I love it 😅. I am a Brit. It's important everyone learns and understands this. The narrative that ALL Hong-kongers loved the Brits and want them back to govern is laughable
Lol, go check what's written on the ID card of the colonial era, his is in the system thus he admitted to the British rule, there is nothing to be shy of.
your comment is the one to be laughable.
And continue to be the legend until someone else comes
He is a legend ❤

Kowloon, Hong Kong.
The O.G. ! daaam !1
Because Human being is very strange often
Can someone tell me what's he writing?
i think its anime writing
It's the true history of the void century
Apparently he was lonely and obsessed with the relationship of his family he repeatedly wrote the name of his family, where they live and also the names of his ancestor as an expression of emotion
Anti-ccp stuffs
it seems like he is writing about a alternative history where he is the emperor of china, it includes the past as well as the future history where his descendents became emperors too, the writing style is also somewhat similar to how ancient chinese history records are written
😮
Lol
