  • There was a time when I really believed low tech meant "less" or "less intelligent." Wow was I wrong. Today the kids have off school and I usually let our school nurses hang at home with us to keep routine especially if it's just a day. (We normally do not have home nursing) Well today only Jayden's nurse came because Angela's nurse needed off. Angela signaled that she had something to say and Dad grabbed her PODD and started to scan. Angela wanted to know where her nurse was! Sounds like a simple question but I wanted you to see just how complex this thought is in PODD. Notice the length of time she must maintain attention before moving on to complete her message.
This is difficult stuff and yet the motivation to communicate is stronger than any obstacle you place in front of a child. People are too quick to say "oh that's way to advanced for him or her". One thing I've learned is if the child truly has motivation and appropriate access they will eventually make it work!
