  • 🙋🏻‍♀️I have something to say “I think it’s - beautiful”. This interaction makes my mommie heart melt to a big old puddle. My girl is doing it! She is communicating. She is exploring. She is babbling. She is showing personality.
So many great things to point out in this video. Many times people get flustered when an individual uses their device and what they say makes no sense. That’s ok and totally a part of the learning process. Remember when we encounter typical toddlers and they just mouth a million sounds and we just kinda respond with what ever seems to fit in the moment. This is how we learn. We put meaning to language and in the case of an AAC learner who uses direct access like Harper we put meaning to her finger points.
The more we give meaning to her words the more things start to “stick” and all the sudden those babbles become meaningful thoughts.
Harper needs to move up in language level - I just haven’t gotten the chance to do that. One of the best things about PODD is that no matter what language level you are using it all uses the same pathways. So I can model on a 12 school age PODD and Harper can respond on her early functions PODD and we could swap books with no problem.
Harper is actually going to be making a big jump in language level because we always want to give them a system to grow into. She can totally do it.
This kid has grown leaps and bounds. There was a moment a few years ago where I questioned if we could really make this happen for her. So thankful we said yes - no matter what we see with our physical eyes - we always choose to look and listen with our hearts!
    Enjoy!
