Through the years, we have had to rely on our preps several times. Job loss, illness, deaths, major financial set backs and now we are retired. Thank God for our preps. Some people say "nothing is ever going to happen". Is that possible? I say " what if you're wrong?"

Another bit about vinegar^ the water filter straws that peeps buy will need to be soaked in vinegar every few weeks-months with constant use^ to breakdown buildup inside the straw, which slows flow-rate greatly

Now I’ve got a doctor friend because I did and taught him how to do his solar setup.
A point about canned foods: when possible, avoid cans that have pull-top lids. The scoring that enables the lid to be removed without a can opener is a point of vulnerability in long-term storage that increases the potential for food spoilage. Not necessarily a concern for a 1-month supply only, but if you are looking to store canned goods for over a year, get the ones that need a can opener.
In 2019/ 2020, the East coast of Australia was on fire from Victoria to Queensland border for the maybe 3 rmonths. People are still rebuilding their lives. You can't say ," it won't happen "
Canned foods last virtually forever, regardless of their expiration stamp. Focus on the proteins like canned meats: tuna, salmon, chicken etc. Also another good source of protein is whey powder. You can usually find it on sale. Easy to mix up with water and to get a meal. Powdered electrolyte packs are good to have. Buy a couple of months worth of multivitamins. Spices from the dollar store can help with variety such as canned meat recipes. You can get creative to help with the monotony during a prolonged SHTF. A little here and there of buying things on your regular grocery run and before you know it you've got a few months of reserves.
I normally put my beans and rice in the oven for an hour to hour and a half at 220 . Just and extra precaution. Don’t forget lentils. Cheap and cook quickly
I'll be honest, I almost skipped this video due to the title. But the content is exactly what I've been looking for, when I did actually watch ^ Food and water prep has been my focus. Plenty of good points given, and great tips. Lots of preppers living in Suburbia and can't realistically move to larger properties. So our prepping can be quite the challenge
Our first months food is in the the kitchen storage. I could put more in and might buy have good rotation now. Downstairs I've got the 6 month plus supply all 25 year storable. Beyond that is my garden "keep a year or 2 worth of complete seeds sealed properly" and my chickens. I have all my grandmother's Mason/Ball canning supplies with components. Plan to try sheep this spring. Expanding the garden. Planting more fruit trees. I figure if I can't get it I'll raise and grow it and the usual hunting for meet every year. That's my food plan for my family. I can also barter and trade for things with neighbors around that will have things I don't. And if nothing else I'm a carpenter and alright auto/cycle mechanic. So I'll always have something or my time to trade for things we might need.
I've always been a prepper but I really started getting on it when I had kids I have at least two and a half years worth of food stocked up medical supplies and water and tools to keep us safe.
Food preps are very important, it wont be safe to go outside let alone the grocery stores during a real SHTF situation. Also for natural disasters, at least 6 months is a good start.
If you're sticking it out in an area after a natural disaster for six months, you're doing something wrong or living in a remote wilderness at the beginning of winter.
Eggs, ramen noodles, tuna (or chicken), with a crushed crackers topping! Staples in the field! A good staple to add to long-term storage is instant coffee and cocoa powder. Powdered eggshell is a great additive to a long-term healthy garden. Learn how to can as well! Old school skills are what got our parents and previous generations thru hungry winters.
I found a plastic jar of Skippy that had somehow slipped thru and had been pushed back way to many times. It was 4-5 years past "best-buy". I tried it and couldn't tell a difference between it, and current PB. Ended up eating the whole jar.
Cans with the easy open tabs, and perforated lids may be subject to seal failure after some time. Probably years after the best by date, but it's going to depend on conditions and handling. Where as cans that must be opened with a can opener could potentially last indefinitely under perfectly conditions.
My 2 cents is plan for the plausible. What did you see in 2020? You might see that again, combined with the effects of a large scale conflict effecting the supply chain. Stocking up on food for X amount of days is what most people will do. A more long term sustainable way is to learn the skills of your grandparents, great grandparents, or great great grandparents, depending on how young or old you are. If you have a backyard, you don't have much of an excuse. In WW2, they called them "Victory gardens". Raise chickens, grow a vegetable garden as large as you have room for. It won't completely replace bought groceries, but it will augment what you buy at the market and lower your food bill. If you've a big enough garden, learn to store for long term your bumper crop for winter. Canning, or invest in a freeze dryer.

Everyone should do the food math for their home. I have one years worth of prep for one person, however, if I use it for the entire family it's roughly two weeks worth. I went from thinking we had enough to the shock of this really isn't enough.
So back in 00, i worked fot a guy who had a family member pass and we had to clran out his home. Nobody knew until we got in there he was a prepper. That being said there was a lot of canned food from the 60s and 70s and it was all still good.

The kids and I recently caught the flu during really bad weather (freezing temps, ice and snow). It was such a great relief that none of us had to leave the house as we had everything in place to carry us through a pretty unpleasant week of fever, bronchitis, etc. I usually aim at having our flu and cough remedies stocked up in late summer/early fall, incl. natural remedies like pine honey, thyme tea, etc.

Dried foods are an essential way to go also. You can dehydrate almost anything like left over chili , veggies, burger, chicken, beans. All need to be cooked first except veggies and fruit. Yes, a month of food. Other considerations, Do a month's worth of menus, buy what is needed not just a random haul Consider the time of year, if you have no power. It's OK to have leftovers in winter when you can keep them at a food safe temperature. However in the summer you may be brewing up a pot'o'food poisoning. During shtf do you really want to poop and barf to death? Try for no leftovers. Many things are not suitable for long term storage but by having a deep working pantry you can easily have things like, oil, mayo, canned fruit and canned tomatoes/sauces/whoĺe/fire roasted. Anything with high sugar (which is acid) and high acid tomato based canned food, will on occasion eat through the can and or taste metallic. High oil content will go rancid. Having your working everyday cabinets with extras, should keep you ready for 30 days. Geez Louise, beans and rice are fine but so is pasta, lentils, barley, quinoa, bulgar, and buckwheat, and they are fast cooking. Good video., thanks
Be careful what you store what with and where. I had a similar set up and had 2 gals of water in it also. Needless to say, the water bursted due to the cold. The water mixed with the salt and rusted the cans. It was down in my mom's basement in a cool dry place. I guess it got a little cooler than I expected. 😂 Learning curve to be sure. 🥃🍻🍝🪂😁👍🏻🏴☠️🇺🇸
Getting started is the hardest part after that you just add a little everytime you go to the store and stuff, like if I see like the four packs of canned vegetables on sale I’ll grab some extra and put them up and rotate them out, and same with other products, I also have probably 2-3 months of nutrient survival products saved up.
Me and my grand boys are mres that we’re 10 years old and other than the skittles every thing else was great the thought that was the best thing lol !! I love my boys other than that we eat like kings when we’re up at papas cabin
Fellas, and gals someday when we least expect it there is going to be a happening none will be ready for. Many wont have to worry about it. Many will have already lost. Prepping wont help when HE returns. I will hopefully already be gone and wont have to suffer. My family is gone. No one to care about. Let it happen. Im ready as ill ever be. Good luck to all. When i was in the military i ate some canned food that was processed in 1942-1945. Military chow. Who knows if it still tasted right? Didnt kill me.
The food does start to taste a little like the can, but if you are very hungry, you're not going to care about that. I try to buy a half dozen freeze-dried meals every paycheck ($60-$70). It won't take too long to have several large totes full of those, and they won't ever taste like a can. If you are going to store freeze-dried food, make sure you are also storing plenty of potable water to rehydrate the freeze-dried food.
U can stretch your prepper bucks by buying the Walmart brand luncheon meat, AKA, Spam. I honestly like it better. But there's SO much more to prepping. Heat in cold weather, cooking sources if you natural gas is out. I stopped buying dry beans because it takes SO much water to cook them. Started just stacking canned beans to the ceiling. Pressure canning is a great way to go also.
Food, yes, but also think meds that you or family needs. A lot of over the counter/rx drugs are imported. That should concern everyone. Great video and good inspiration for people to start. Always improve your foxhole. Great advice.
The only challenge I have is being an urban person, with no vehicle, and no practical way to practice some of the important skills. Hopefully what I lack in applied skill, I can make up for with the stuff I have been able to acquire.
A mason jar fitting and a brake bleeder for “canning” rice and beans, etc. Steam Canner or Water Bath Canner and a Pressure Canner and some elbow grease for everything else. Small batches of work at a time, small time commitment, cost effective. It’s obtainable for fragile old gramma ladies collecting retirement. A fruit dryer and a meat smoker rounds it out. Making and using Lard and Rendered Fat is the old timey way. Food grain bins with wheels from Walmart for the beans and rice and grains. Buying wholesome food in bulk monthly and eating it from the pantry makes a cost effective lifestyle out of food storage. And it’s healthier, in part keeping you healthy for the “Where There is No Doctor” situation. Kill 🎶Meet me down by the railroad track, track. 🎶

What are your thoughts if Martial Law took place and confiscated all your food prep because it was considered "hoarding"? And what would you recommend to do before/after?
I keep telling people have everything you need and can legally have for 30 days minimum to 90 preferably. Because most can't afford the 12 to 18 months it would take to re establish infrastructure should it fail.......
Legally have? Did baked beans suddenly become outlawed? What are you even talking about? Do you live 50 miles from civilization on a one lane road surrounded by mountains and canyons? Come on.

Canned foods; There no reason for the food for it to get infested with anything as long as the container isn't breached. Some of the nutrients may decompose, but that's not a threat, just not so much of that nutrient. I have noticed flavor changing as things age. And what's in the can? Tomatoes, for instance, are acid enough to eventually eat through most metals. (I assume you're not canning in gold) Now, a situation for you. A good friend that loves hunting just dropped the rear quarter of a deer on your kitchen counter. Killed today. How do you process it? (long term) It's going bad as it sits ...
opened canned "white label generic" PEAS from a can couple years ago, that was at least the 80's. Can came from a kitchen pantry indoors. As for condition the can was pristine and the contents were edible with a small metallic taint. Would I do that again, yes. Let your eyes and nose guide you not and dates.
That's too much prep. I throw a 25 pound bag of rice under the counter every three years for $15 and have some vitamins for another $15. $30 every three years isn't a bank buster and it all travels well when it's time to leave.
While I do not disagree with you there are downsides. A lot of the canned stuff if not all things that don’t go bad are high to very high in sodium. Too much of that is not ideal for your health in normal times. Especially for people with high blood pressure. If you have enough money and you want to rotate it, consider donating a portion to food pantries and rebuying more.

Geez Louise, beans and rice are fine but so is pasta, lentils, barley, quinoa, bulgar, and buckwheat, and they are fast cooking.
Good video., thanks
Awesome!
Nice chill conversation. Thanks guys. Good luck 👍
Me and my grand boys are mres that we’re 10 years old and other than the skittles every thing else was great the thought that was the best thing lol !! I love my boys other than that we eat like kings when we’re up at papas cabin
Great video. I like this direction.
Agreed!
Thanks guys!
😁👍🏻
The food does start to taste a little like the can, but if you are very hungry, you're not going to care about that. I try to buy a half dozen freeze-dried meals every paycheck ($60-$70). It won't take too long to have several large totes full of those, and they won't ever taste like a can. If you are going to store freeze-dried food, make sure you are also storing plenty of potable water to rehydrate the freeze-dried food.
Can you provide us the list of your one month food stocks? Items and numbers?
Glad Jason took you under his wing on food storage . Great video guys
Washing with apple cider vinegar was new information to me. Great to know! Thanks!
I'm always stoked and never smoked!!!☝❤
What time would you put on evaporated milk ,custard, rice pudding in tins
Great vid 1Sgt.
I want to know where you found your map on the wall behind you. Topo maps are hard to come by around here
On the wall is OLD.
But Find, Buy, and Print Your Own Topo Maps

An Amazing video guys!!!👏👏👏 Greetings from The Netherlands (Europe)
Kill
🎶Meet me down by the railroad track, track. 🎶
Yeah no kidding. I've been screaming about this on my channel for years. We're 90 seconds to midnight. The climate crisis will also destroy us. This is our last stable decade on Earth. Kiss everything goodbye by 2040.
You know the sh*t is hitting the fan when Jason's voice gets all high and squeaky. lol Thanks for the message guys,
Thanks 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
The metallic taste in canned food is an indication that eating it risks iron poisoning. A somewhat rare occurrence.
50 pounds of rice, 50 pounds of pasta, and 100 dollars of canned meat. some spices. Thats 6 months of food. Less than 250 dollars.
Nice!!!!
Is there a list of all of these items? Completely inexperienced to the prepping idea and still need some guided choices.
1 lb of rice for 2 lbs of beans
Canned food of your preference
They have used tins over 100 years old from the boer war of 1910.
Wow!
@@ONThree
Tins are okag mostly, weather they are the same as in 1910, i dont know.
Some modern ones have plastic in them, perhaps avoid these.
Depends on contents i guess. My parents allways had a stock of tins and powderd goods, like potato, milk eggs etc.
They were born in the 1920s went through the depression and ww2 with rationing etc
You dont need loads just a few extra ones when you go out, it soon totts up.
I have 4 boxes of tins at home, 24 tins to a box. You can cary this but not if you have loads in one container, its to heavy..
Let others have some too, so dont take everything i n hoarding all at once.
Have a good day
That is exactly what I do right now I got 5 pounds of rice in the freezer to kill the weevil eggs in all of the rice I went to the local dollar tree and spent 35 bucks and just added to my existing stuff some at my off grid cabin and some here at home I’ve been doing this for years I’ve had some medical issues and my preps have been a life saver guys just as it’s meant to but what’s up with lintel’s I looked at them but got pinto beans instead
Learn skills, stock supplies and build a good library. People have done it for generations. Just makes sense.
Pearson idea that many people would reject but I would put some shells any place in my house and fill it with food. I would not use lack of space as an excuse because when you're starving you're going to look back and think that you made a bad decision just because you were concerned about Aesthetics
i ate a 10 year expired pack of idahoan potatoes. was stale but decent
Come on.
So Stoker, where is the list? The list of the one-month’s supply?
With or without world news or elections this is something everyone should do …Just in case there is something that happens to you at work or get fired supply chain problems like with Covid anything unexpected. Don’t panic buy at the last minute just make a plan. Don’t forget water and poo paper.
(I assume you're not canning in gold)
Now, a situation for you. A good friend that loves hunting just dropped the rear quarter of a deer on your kitchen counter. Killed today. How do you process it? (long term)
It's going bad as it sits ...
You dont need to eat 3 times per day. Small breakfast, and small dinner will get you by
I NEED A PVC PATCH!
Remember the 3 B’ s !
On 1983 the US ARMY served my unit K rations from the Korean War. I'm 62 now. Apparently nothing wrong with that s#%t!
You the man.
The Army fed us 18 year old C-Rats during my tie in Vietnam.
opened canned "white label generic" PEAS from a can couple years ago, that was at least the 80's.
Can came from a kitchen pantry indoors. As for condition the can was pristine and the contents were edible with a small metallic taint. Would I do that again, yes. Let your eyes and nose guide you not and dates.
Good call. Thanks for the info.
Always be ready for the worst
That's too much prep. I throw a 25 pound bag of rice under the counter every three years for $15 and have some vitamins for another $15. $30 every three years isn't a bank buster and it all travels well when it's time to leave.
👍
Bought your book love it! Kiss keep it simple sucker
Congrats! You have become just like all of the gloom and doom preppers. That didn’t take long.
Not strong food makes you the exception to 6000 years of recorded history. Why do you think you are immune to the situation.
Nuclear deployment plant exploded!
I now go to the airport with my B O B!
Canned meat, 12yrs past the fake date on the can. Crisco shortening 8yrs past.
im not hating or anything, but how many times have there been videos like this coming out for each month that "this is it guys". idk im kinda tired of it at this point
I'm with you I see it a lot, however I would argue we don't know when shtf will happen and do far it's all just getting worse. Just go with the prepare for the worse and hour for the best advice and you'll be ok.
yeah thats what im thinking, instead of uploading stuff like "this is it" upload informational stuff for every scenario instead of saying "this is what is going to happen and its happening soon"@@Solarpunk87
I can already tell you've probably been watching City Prepper, or Canadian Prepper.
@@thoughtlessroamerIf you really want to prep for a starvation event, get fat while staying in shape. That's not terribly difficult. These doomer types are preparing for some fantasy civilization failure. It's nearly impossible without nuclear war, astroid/comet impact, or a massive solar flare/coronal mass ejection. To which I would argue, "What the hell makes you think you'll come out on the other end of any of those alive in the first place?"
@@MiddleOutdoorsman I haven’t been watching any of those. I’m not even that big into prepping, I mostly subbed to this guy for those old ALICE gear videos he had
Its better to be pro-active instead of re-active.
Freaking Putin did it❗
