Awesome video, new to design options and this helped a lot, thanks. 👌🏻
One way to handle existing elements with new elements in options is If there are no changes to an existing wall, leave it in the main model and disallow joins of new walls. Once an option is approved then you can go back and join walls.

If I have an existing building before creating new option for massing addition, where should I put the existing building? Do I also create an option for the whole existing building?
Hi Jeff, Is it possible to use design options in a team, using BIM 360 platform? like each team member has one option and another empty one, so we can control the visibility and show only my option while working. I've tried it actually but we had some challenges related to asking for permissions. Probably because elements are hosted by system families. (would it work without issues if we use worksets instead of using workset1 only?), I would be very glad if you could clarify it, maybe in a separate video. Thanks in advance! keep it up :)
is there a way to show only the design option, removing the main model (by rule, not doing manually)
I am not sure what you mean by a "rule"? If you are talking about isolating on the design option, just activate it, select everything, and then Isolate Elements... I think that's what you mean? If you mean can you filter a view by design option... I do not think that is possible, no.
@@TheRevitKid Big thanks for your swift reply. Our project has 3 design sets and each has 3 design options. I ve made 3d views to show each option, wanted to show only what is in that option, while hiding the main model. By rule I meant, that I or any other user sees it when I open the view, without extra steps (opening the option to greyout and isolating).
@@the87jazels Under Visibility/Graphics you can assign a design option to a view... That will dedicate the view to only show that design option. Grey scaling the Main Model only happens when you activate the design option. You'll have manually do that in the view if you want it to maintain the greyscale outside of the option... Unfortunately, you can't control objects using filters based on if they are in or are not in an option (to my knowledge).
@@TheRevitKid Yeah did that to those 3D views. Still the main model is shown as well.. i need to enter a specific option to grey scale and then isolate to show only the option. Dang it. thanks anyway.

This was great but it didn't show you how to demo anything. When I create an option it greys out everything that is in the main model. How do you demo anything so that it doesn't show in the option? I get it that you are showing us the finished option but how did you get there? Struggling to see how to eliminate the main model items and only show the options. For instance. How do you keep some existing items but demo others? I wish you could have run through the whole process of creating a full option from start to finish. Talking about it and showing the end result is cool but doesn't help us who are new to actually creating it.
You're right... this was meant to demonstrate the five ways (not dig into each one). I am actually created a course on both design options and phasing as we speak! To answer your initial question, when you are combining phasing and design options you will need to bring the existing elements effected into EACH option. Then you can demo them as you wish within the options themselves. Yes, this means you may have 3-4 of the same existing wall in your model (each in their own option).
