Hi, this is actually super relevant to what is happening with me and my 11 year old - NO drinking involved!! But substitute the drinking with “non-rule following”…. He has become addicted to not following the rules. So I feel like I have to follow him around and make sure he’s ACTUALLY showering, or ACTUALLY doing his homework, or ACTUALLY switching the laundry and emptying the lint… the list goes on… this is super helpful because I started realizing what I’m doing with ultimatums and control is making it worse.. I am at the end of my rope and need to change… thank you for your help. ❤

I love all your inputs. Husband is not in denial about his alcoholism but is completely averse to treatment/therapy/rehab. He denies treatment/recovery.

Ahh, he recognizes that he is addicted, but does not admit that it is a problem.

He still thinks he can manage it. I knew I was an alcoholic nearly my whole life. It took my wife kicking me out to realize my life had become unmanageable and I needed help. Wish my wife had seen this video years ago. For her sanity, not mine.

Hi Kim, welcome to our little community. There’s not a specific place to start but if
You go to our channel page, you’ll see that we have playlist set up by category. This should help you select the subject that feels most relevant right now

Is there a name for the behaviors and feelings that a family member has that make them feel like they need to monitor and seek more information on their loved one’s addiction and behaviors around the addiction? You have mentioned things like “snooping,” but also just thinking about it all the time, reading articles, counting drinks, watching all these great videos. I would like to know if there is a catch-all phrase for this sort of behavior/thought pattern. I think it is done both in an effort to make sure the addict is being as safe as possible under the circumstances and also because we’re trying to make sense of it all in our heads.
