- Weaver birds are nature's engineers. They build intricate nests from vegetable material such as grass, leaves and palm fronds. Most weaver birds are found in Africa with a few in South Asia and Australia. They belong to the Ploceidae family of birds which has over 120 species.
In this video, we will explore the amazing architecture of weaver birds and how they use their beaks and feet to weave, knot and stitch their nests. We will also learn about the different types of nests that weaver birds make, such as the pendant-shaped nests of the baya weavers and the huge communal nests of the sociable weavers.
We will also discover how weaver birds choose their nest locations, how they attract mates with their nest-building skills, and how they protect their nests from predators and harsh weather conditions.

Most of the time they build them close to wasps nests,in a thorny tree or a tree that grows in the middle of a river with running water.They are very intelligent and they think of their safety.

Lots of them in Mauritius. I was told they are called "Serin du Cap." They really stand out amongst the other little wild birds but my favourite are the red ones.

They are fascinating to watch, I stay at a hotel in Kenya that has a colony on the grounds, they work continuously, monkeys often pass through and make a mess, but the weaver birds are never deterred and just get back to work to patch up the damage.
