I know that I'm repeating what others have been saying, but your way of doing a review is just absolutely great! No bla-bla, all facts and even interesting listening to. Well done!

Wish all reviews were done as well as this - just the information an R/C flyer wants and no dreadful music to deafen us. Articulate commentary and good camera work - thanks

Its a sailplane - competition class no less- so wing flex is not only desirable it's a must and not at all the negative it would be on other foamies. This is one of the most detailed, accurate and informative reviews I've seen, I owned the Arcus and despite having full composite 4&6m sailplanes I must say I loved this foam offering. Because I am so familiar with it I know that your review was honest, I think it's time to get another one thanks to your great video reigniting the passion for scale sailplanes. My one negative was how floppy this thing is, not the wings mind you but I found the whole fuz and tailplane would twist and even on the ground the torsional rigidity is somewhat lacking, also set up on some radios of the complex systems can be troublesome.

Hi, thanks for your informative clip. Had you any problems with setting up like the Pod having a problem to open and start? I am fly with a Spektrum DX9 and seems that Speed Controller has been taped where there are adjustments for setting. This came from Lindinger direct. Can you help please? Thanks. Keep up the good work.

Mr Walker, I'm a huge fan of your channel, I greatly appreciate your intelligent, informative, witty reviewing & commentary. Your career with NASA & your medical device products are admirable and impressive, & I think you should teach others how to do product reviews that are relatable and useful! Much like listening to NPR, I always feel smarter after an episode of Hobbyview! Do you have any interest in selling your Arcus? They are hard to come by, the only vendor of Sheng Tang Models I can find is in Australia! If you ever need to make room in your hangar please permit me to make an offer on the Arcus! Thanks for your channel!

Excellent product video. What FPV setup did you use to take shots installation of this would be nice. My only concern with foam. Is there any way and/or product to coat foam to help prevent dents. Also I note there is a factory fitted looks like a black tubular main spar in each wing root, how far does I go into the wing. Would be nice if the manufacturer made the fuselage out of light ABS plastic. Apart from that what a comprehensive model for an excellent price.

The review was so good I went and bought one. Now the question is how did you set up the throttle and pod on the throttle .Please let me know how it is done. Thank You.

• @HobbyView
@HobbyView  7 років тому

You have two options. Have the throttle and pod retract on separate channels, or use the included automatic pod/throttle controller. I chose the latter as it simplifies operation. It will automatically ope n the pod when you throttle up and retract when you shut the throttle off.

Excellent review! It seems that ST Models has upped the ante on the features they're offering on a 2 meter class glider. I wish my ST Models Fox glider had the spoilers! That's a very nice feature when the glider is stubborn about coming down on a day with strong thermals. I also liked the retractable landing gear. I may have to consider this glider...

I really like this glider! It is big,beautiful and great price. I dont mind the extra channels as my Spektrum should be able to handle it. I dont care for the top tail feather as it seems to be shakey. I like the fact it comes apart. I dont think it would be that big of a problem assembling it at the air field.

What a nice review! I always wanted a glider that's cool and realistic looking! I've been flying a Flyzone Beaver (with floats) for a while now. I'll wait until tower has them back in stock and get this one! :D by the way, what's the name of the song playing during the flight video? Goes perfect with the plane! Subbed!

Hey Hobbyview, can I use only 6ch and have all the features except from manually controlling the opening of the power pod?

• @HobbyView
@HobbyView  8 років тому

YES! The power pod has a control board the automatically extends and retracts by sensing throttle position (automatic mode). So you can use a 6-channel radio no problem.

I just got mine yesterday spoilers do not go all the way into the wings and my motor pod comes out fine and retracts fine but then keeps coming out and going back into the fuselage so I cannot fly like a glider but only like a sport flyer

• @ronaldmiller6520
@ronaldmiller6520 8 років тому

yes I did fly engine planes, but I watched pros. flying giant gliders and they said you only use spoilers to slow the glider down on decent, but when getting to ready to touchdown release spoiler, and land, this prevents drop. I have thirteen gliders in my house but only a couple have spoilers, and what the man said works for me. anyway nice talking to you hope this works, try it out, ron

• @HobbyView
@HobbyView  8 років тому

Ah, I see what you are saying now. Yes, just before touchdown you retract the spoilers so as not to slam the glider on the ground. You are correct. However, the spoilers are variable. What I would normally do was extend the spoilers a little bit and make very small adjustments to make a smooth and solid landing. My flight examiner made a compliment that she could barely feel my landings!

• @qeezee2355
@qeezee2355 7 років тому

Airbrakes are different to spoilers; spoilers spoil the air over the wing and cause a nose down trim and are not speed limiting; airbrakes are speed limiting and used to control descent with elevators controlling speed. The ideal approach technique is to set up half airbrake on final after selecting an aiming point (point at which you would strike the ground before roundout) for landing then adjust the airbrake accordingly should you detect undershoot or overshoot. near the ground keep them still and land, once on the ground and rolling apply full airbrake to kill any lift. Spoilers keep them steady before touchdown then apply full spoiler or you'll end up sinking and possible crashing. The same applies with Airbrakes play with them near the ground and you can PIO (pilot induced oscillation) and crash all as standard full size practice.

Hello everybody :-)
Does anybody know how to setup softness for RMS
(POP-UP and DOWN for MOTOR )
And,
How to settup RMS not to close motor until the prop is in correct position?
So,
When i push throttle stick down, motor is going to fuselage pretty fast, no matter if prop is in good (correct) position and it can make damage
Thank you

• @HobbyView
@HobbyView  8 років тому

Make sure you are using the RMS in automatic mode (only one connector to the receiver). Also, the prop has to be spinning so the friction latch will capture the propellor. It will sometimes not catch correctly on the ground, but I've never had it fail in the air. See around 6:09 in the video.

I was taught not to use air brakes for landing, only use flaps for landing, because air brakes slow the air going over the wings causing the plane to drop, where flaps slow the plane yet gives it lift, better for landing. I used to fly real planes, Cessna & pipers

• @HobbyView
@HobbyView  8 років тому

I flew real gliders and we used airbrakes and spoilers for landing all the time. It was the best way to control the descent for precision landing. Many gliders do not have flaps, just spoilers (I flew mainly Schweitzers and Blaniks non of which had flaps). The key is modulating the use of airbrakes to control the descent.
I think you are talking powered planes which to not have the excessive lift like gliders do.

• @qeezee2355
@qeezee2355 7 років тому

It is perfectly safe and OK to use flaps together with airbrakes even with a sideslip providing you maintain airspeed
