Ian that blade was night and day different after the change. The sound made me think of starting my lawn mower and pushing into thick grass faster than I should and the motor takes major load all at once. Sounds that make ya go oooooh! I bet after a log or two more the vibration would have significantly increased too? Man I learn a lot from you and I don’t even saw. I’m a leather worker by trade and use you as a mental release. Thank you for sharing your craft and trade with the masses! I have been catching your new video when they come out and try to get in a few during my day while I am crafting myself. Anyway, keep up the amazing mill work and videography; it definitely shows why and how your channel is growing so well! Best Regards to the entire mill, Walter Happy Gobble Gobble day to everyone!
The lawn mower is a really good analogy! That’s a good comparison. I really appreciate your comment and knowing that my channel is a release! Take care and have a blessed Thanksgiving Sir🦃🦃
Hi lan yes the teeth replacement made a difference, but the rip saw looks like it needs to be reset leaving saw lines on the timber, either that or the shaft bearings are wearing letting the blade to wander slightly. Still nice work and enjoy your vids thanks muchly for posting
I’ve addressed this a while ago. But if you look closely, that lip deviates in depth along the log. That’s because the top of the head saw blade isn’t forced into position. The top of the blade will swim in and out of a cut, depending on the feed rate and sharpness. The inverse applies to the top saw
@@Helmsburgsawmill that is exactly what my reply would have been. There are other factors also to be considered as to how the saw reacts. You addressed the main two. Log quality also comes into play. The saws(head and edger) can only saw what they get.
That was awesome did know you could change the teeth of dose blades rather than change the hole blade with is a big money saver it was very interesting how you change the teeth all so is super easy 👍 👌
Good video 👍 I've never seen how your edger saws were constructed, wasn't sure if they were fixed teeth or swage teeth. Guess I know now. Thanks for the spotlight on that 😊 Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 if we don't see you before then.
@@lyleharkness-rv5vf a video will probably come out on Thanksgiving! I won’t have time to make one tonight. I plan on getting more of that stuff on as well! Happy Thanksgiving!!
Popped up on my page and was intrigued by this so watched. Not disappointed. Looked up your web page as well. Do you use the saw dust to make pellets or do you sell it off to someone else to use?
I guess it gets pretty expensive changing those teeth out. Great video. Thanks for sharing. Happy Thanksgiving Helmsburg Sawmill family and employees!! 🦃🦃
good afternoon! love the videos an sure appreciate your taking the time to film them and post them for us to enjoy. was hoping i could pick your brain, we've got an old belsaw mill that grandad had kicking around and i was just wondering uif you had any recommendations on a good place to get a blade for it with replaceable teeth. Appreciate the help!
I was wondering why on the first cut on the outer portion of the log you cut it with the horizontal blade. Just seems like an unnecessary cut adding a lot of extra cuts on those teeth. I was just curious I would think your scrap chipper would be able to handle most if what we saw coming off at full width
I know it might appear that way. But once you start sending wife stuff through, that’s when it start clogging. Also leaving the edgers close to the cut already makes for a quick follow up adjustment. I also like having the edger as an indicator on every cut I make. If the head saw doesn’t clean the edger mark off in the first pass, I don’t want to make any more cuts on that log without filing. I don’t want to chance making bad lumber.

Yes, noticeably quieter. and a cleaner cut. Really nice lumber today. Thank you, Ean.

Sounds better. Very noticeable. That’s nice oak lumber. Great job! Thanks. 👍👍👍

Is that a degreaser or anoil you are applying?
