Those really were the days for tremendous Wagner singing.
What GLORIOUS SINGING - NEVER HEARD on ANY OPERATIC STAGE since THEN
One of her signature roles. Great singer! We don't have even a quarter of this on stage nowadays. And there are those searching for "buts" in it...
It´s always exciting to hear Thorborg in this scene! Her huge, dramatic voice is sailing through the waves of the orchestra. Impressing.
omg this is insane...what a great singer..
Oh Holy Lord she is like a thunderstorm!
Do you know, I feel inclined to agree with you. she is MAGNIFICENT! (The power of Gwyneth Jones in her prime, and the stability of Birgit M - but the voice of Thorburg!) Thanks for posting - never heard this version before.
It is not the big roles. The vocal instruments exist today. However, the LACK OF VOCAL TECHNIQUE is due to the fact that there are NO VOCAL TEACHERS who COMPREHEND THE "'ART" or HOW TO "TEACH" SINGING. That is the reason there are NO SINGERS who can up to the standards that were commonplace in the GOLDEN ERA of SINGING. Note that the Rosa Ponselle Foundation has halted all scholarships because of this. Please read Herbert Caesari
Absolutely true!!!!
do not be stupid! there are voices.. and there are teachers... but the agents, producers, and opera empresarios hire mosquitoes!!! to sing opera! people whose best should be to sing stephen foster singing wagner and verdi... it is a disgrace! but do not blame the teachers.... nor the real singers..... producers..... and agents and record companies are hiring mosquitoes to sing opera!!!!
THORBORG was SUPERIOR. There are NO SINGERS today who can come up to this standard of singing
Absolutely NONE
Yes, she is a tornado. Very impressive. Unfortunately she is also flat...
Yes, she is flat, but, has the spirit of the piece. The timbre is extraordinary and so is her "turbo" power.
Not so horribly flat... only slightly and only sometimes
Yes, she is flat. The voice is so strong, it causes me to believe she couldn't sense this. If she realized her pitch was off, perhaps she could have corrected it. I'd be interested to read an informed opinion.
christ!!!!!! German opera as it should be!!!!!
