🧑🏽🍳 How we made: Cubed, toss lightly in cornstarch (about 2-3 tsp per block), fry in oil (about 3-4 tbsp) until all sides are golden and crispy, remove to a paper towel lined plate to soak up and excess oil. In a clean skillet add and heat your favorite sauce, add the tofu back in and toss to coat.

Making chickpea tofu (Burmese Tofu) is really easy. You basically boil/simmer chickpea flour in water for 8 or 9 minutes. Pour it out in a pan and let cool. There is no coagulant, no straining, no real fuss. It would be cheaper that way as well.
for sure!
Don't worry this is a review of food not an English class. You did a good job with explanations
:)
Thank you for trying this out. I love your videos!
Thank you!
It’s been a while since you’ve done a taste test. Love the looks on your faces on the first bite. Enjoyed watching 💚
Thank you 😋
Love yalls taste tests! 💚

More to come!
Thanks.
That was very informative. I’m going to try some. 😊
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you. Will have to try it when I can find it.
Hope you enjoy
Yall are too cute and I appreciate this video since I was wondering the differences!
I've missed your taste test videos! More please. :)
more coming!
I love it! It cooks really well in the air fryer!
Nice!
See now I wanted to see the clips of y’all preparing it 🙃 I’ll definitely be on the lookout for it but don’t know where I’ll find it☺️ Thanks for reviewing!!
I found some at Whole Foods 😊
@@alex5716 thanks! I’ll take a look and come back to update☺️
There's a store locator linked in our post which is in the description or the Franklin Farms website. Sorry we didn't show the prep, but you can see a very similar way we did it in this video on Andrew's page around the 1:52 mark ua-cam.com/video/EtEULYeptVw/v-deo.html
@@Brocka75 You’re welcome!!
Thanks so much for the review. I really appreciate this coming as a soy-free Vegan. I am going to be looking for this Chickpea Tofu at my local natural food stores.. Tucson here!!🌵🌿💚
We just saw at Whole Foods this weekend too!
Wow i just bought this yesterday cant wait to try it lol im typing this as im watching this video before yall even get to the tasting part lol
I love the review, I don't like tofu but maybe I will like the chickpea tofu. I will try, Thanks
maybe!
I dont love for chickpea flour so you saved me on this one. I recently tried the big mountain fava bean tofu and really liked it
Just left a comment about that one -- I really like it, too.
Good to see you two again! Hope all is good! I made the YT Burmese tofu that was going around a few years ago once, and was, like, glad I'm not allergic to soy, because this is good but it ain't tofu. Glad the soy-free people have something, but really what can you add to chickpea flour to make it not feel like solid starch? The tangent was, whoo, boy! Bite Size Vegan put out a good video about it a few weeks ago. Thanks for posting!
hahaha, it's always something with us
@@MakeItDairyFree But, I love and appreciate you guys regardless.❤✌🏽🙏🏽
I seriously want to try this note
do it!
I still have to drive over an hour to get pumfu, it's still my favorite, it's Still very expensive almost 7 ea 🥵. Thanks so much for all you guys do for the vegan peeps! Great review
Thank you
Since it's soft and mild, I'd think it would be great for sauces and desserts rather than cubes you were hoping to be firm. I'm going to try it in my vegan alfredo!
never seen chickpea tofu in our local supermarket, only the soybean tofu.
i would try it,still learning how to make tofu Nice.
thank you for making good content.
nice
I use this brand of tofu regularly. I have never liked the texture of soy tofu (unless very well done), so I use the same method of cooking mine. I cut in very small cubes or slices coat with a small amount of olive oil then seasoning and corn starch and bake at about 420 for about 30 min (the same that I've done with soy tofu). When I do this the texture has chicken like strings and a firmer texture. I buy it often and like it.
I saw this at a grocery store near me. I am allergic to soy. I am excited to try this.
I've been on a food allergy elimination diet for several months so no soy, and wanted to share that I've been enjoying fava bean tofu! (Big Mountain Foods) It can be pretty soft, but I crumble it into pretty small pieces and bake it in the oven until brown, so the texture turns out close to ground beef if you give it time.
@@leapintothewild thank you. I will have to try it. It sounds good.
I LOVE y'all ❤😊❤
Love you back!
The chickpea tofu needs a coagulant to become the right texture. Mary's Test Kitchen has been experimenting with various seeds and beans to see if they will "tofu" with varying results.
We love Mary!
Chickpea tofu isn't made from chickpea milk. It is made by cooking the flour n that thickens up on its own so no there is no need for calagulant.
@@theresaromeo5484 given the texture, which is important, would say otherwise according to this review. If you watch Mary's video on chickpea tofu you would understand why the coagulant is important for tofu even if you make the soft variations.
I made red Lentil tofu and the texture didn't turn out right. Thanks for the tip.
I have had it I liked it 😊
Nice!
That's exactly how I would describe it crispy outside mashed potato on the inside... You should make chickpea fries they come out better or even chickpea fritters they are amazing 😋
yum!
Hey y’all 👋🏾. Excited to try it! I heard Pumfu (pumpkin seed tofu) was good as well
It rocks the boat!!! They did a review on it😊
Yes, we tried it here! ua-cam.com/video/Xc3mLAYC2M0/v-deo.html
I found it at Whole Foods here in California. It's dense I made a sauce and it was pretty good I still prefer regular tofu.
Glad you gave it a try
Thank you for reviewing the chickpea tofu!! My next journey is lentil tofu! Will you join me?? 😊
intrigued!
I so want to try to make my own with pumpkin seeds but I have yet to try🤨🤗
you should! I know @mary's test kitchen has one!
You guys are so sweet and kind! Your horse chat was the best. Animal rights vegan would probably say no riding horses
The texture sounds like it could be good for scrambled eggs/omelet/quiche.
yes
Have you tried the new Tyson chicken plant based nuggets? They're tasty to us.
Haven't!
@@MakeItDairyFree if you do try them, let me know what you think
Just tried chickpea tofu, and was kind of concerned with the texture, thought it had gone bad, so immediately came to see if you had try it. Great flavor, texture is too mushy
I wonder if this would work as a soft tofu in Thai curry or as what you’d put in a spring roll. My worry would be it losing its shape within the liquid
hmm maybe!
Would you recommend it for a tofu scramble dish?
We're going to try it and report back
Maybe it would be good as scrambled egg???
We'll try it and report back!
Its not vegan to ride a horse because its exploitation. A horse had to be "Broken In" to ride them because they weren't born to be our transportation, and will buck you off of them. Just because they've been broken in doesn't mean if you rescue them you should ride them. Just like if you rescue chickens you don't eat their eggs, but feed the eggs back to them. It's about returning respect to them after they've been disrespected.
Thanks for sharing
Do you guys have a video on soy controversy ?
We don't. We eat soy, but choose to do videos like this for those who are allergic or choose not to eat it
@@MakeItDairyFree Understood
Bite size vegan just released a video on the horse topic.
Thanks for sharing
Where do you buy a tofu press ?
Here you go: *Tofu Press: amzn.to/348fL0s
Ask and you shall receive! Xoxo
Yes! Thank you for the rec!
Always wanted to try a “tofu” that wasn’t soy. Will try to make some with other beans as well. Thank You for this taste test. ❤
Ride a horse if you want to. It won’t change your vegan status.😏
Check out Mary's Test Kitchen for more soy free tofu recipes
@@MakeItDairyFree Thank You 🙋🏾♀️
I have a pack and I've yet to try it🤦♀️🤣
do it!
You are in good company. President Johnson once said "irregardless." It's just "regardless."
LOL
Maria's healthy cooking channel did an extra firm chickpea tofu (and some others) - might be worth trying to see if the texture is there for Andrew. Here's a link to the most recent version: ua-cam.com/video/yUE3B3u8NaQ/v-deo.html
Thanks Leah!
Are you going to do any Trader Joe's new stuff taste test soon?
We haven't seen anything new really there unless we're missing it
Hello 🤗 two years ago i asked you if you could veganise japanese giggly cheesecake
Unfortunately we haven't been able to replicate that one yet
When are you guys due? Congrats
www.scarymommy.com/do-not-ask-woman-if-pregnant
I can't buy any of the premade soy free tofu at all in my area of Georgia at all since none of my local grocery stores carry any of these options at all.
oh man, that's a bummer. Maybe try one of the vegan online stores ?
Frankly, fried mashed potatoes sounds delicious!
right LOL
🦄 tofu 😄
lol
Maybe better as a scramble?
maybe!
Never could stand the texture of tofu. I wound use silken just for the protein alternative in sauces but never could bring myself to eat firm.
You may like this!
Some say a vegan diet, differ from vegan lifestyle. So always refrain from USING animals and doing harm in all possible ways✌️✌️
🙌🏼
Right
I tried cooking tofu 3 times different ways... non tasted good... id say in the oven came out best. Pan was horrible. I gave up. Lol
Hmmm its harder than something else? Wonder what that could be... lol
🤔👀🤣
Why not just make them small?
you could, i think it would still be soft
I tried chickpea tofu i didnt it didnt cook well i pefer tofu over chickpea tofu
Sorry to hear that
Riding a horse is not vegan? Had no idea. Figured people who ride horses loved them the most.
Missed y'all. The thing about horses, zoos, etc... is the exploited aspect. If you have a financial interest in the animals, you may do things that are not good for the animals.
Good reason :)
I know a indigenous family that own horses. These horses are pretty much next to wild. The horses live the family n do let them ride occasionally n the horses seem to like the attention. These horses arent forced to do anything. A family member goes out n calls n whatever horse feels like it comes. Usually all of them come n want attention like they like it. They are happy horses. A horse treated well does like humans.
@@catleigh1540 they don't use them as vehicles. They live there n are looked after by the family. I have seen those horses n they like the attention . Humans n horses have a connection. Horses are very smart n live in groups. Look I am a vegan n don't like animals treated any less than us. These horses don't have to come when the people go out. They don't have to let them ride them. They aren't beaten into submission they come n interact n seem very happy n playful with these people. If I didn't see it with my own eyes I also would think the same thing as you. Somehow horses can bond with humans maybe it's the thousands of years of domestication maybe it's because of their intelligence.
Anyone else here have a problem with the outside of the packaging? I have been buying Franklin Farm for months and no matter what store I use, the outer packaging is sticky, often wet, and just plain nasty.
oh weird, we didn't have that experience
I hate regular tofu even with sauce its texture thing
I guess I don't get the horse thing, but I'm vegan strictly for health reasons, and I've reversed a couple of degenerative diseases. I have used horses to help veterans with grief counseling. Horses are beautiful animals with a ton of power. I would not have thought that riding them was harming them, and I know some horses that are kept better than most people. I guess Santa better be careful with the reindeer! Geesh.
A few people below said Bite size vegan released a video about it, so maybe that would be helpful? We haven't watched it yet. Helping veterans is wonderful
I'll check it out
@@MakeItDairyFreethe video she made is great!
That is why i am plant based. I will ride a horse.
I'm more of a tempeh guy anyway. I'll pass.
Enjoy
If only the horses could talk to know if it does feel like a hug but to be honest if they didn't want you on them they can surely knock you off if they really wanted to lol... but as a heavy vegan I wouldn't want to torture them with my weight on them🤷♀️👀
I wish we could talk to animals!
@@MakeItDairyFree Right lol... I bet they have a lot to say🤣
Tofu is not chickpeas nor is it pumpkin seeds.
All of these textures will be different.
The food substitution mindset can be a trap.
Thanks for a partially good food review.
lol ok
