@@ericji7226 And they were right. It took 10 years for his 200m and 100m fly records to fall, and by that point Michael had held the 200m fly record for over 18 years. His 400 IM record from 2008 still stands, and Phelps has held the record for 18 years and counting.

The rest of his events are 200-400 distances. If you look at sprinting events ALONE, Dressel is better. The only event Phelps won individually that you could even consider a sprint is the 100 fly. Dressel is not only faster than Phelps in the 100 fly, but he’s won Olympic Gold and World Championships in that event just like Phelps. That already makes them pretty similar in greatness for sprinting events. Obviously, the underwater dolphin kick for half the length of the pool is something that wasn't done when I swam in the 80's. Maybe you kicked two or three times before coming up to swim most of the lap. These guys are only swimming half the lap! I'm sure that has contributed to the drop in times for all swimming events.

100 im is just totally sprintig with a lot of turns where dessel gets always big advantage, it cannot be compared to long course 200 im. he would have some problem with 50 breast and 50 back. i mean he obviously would be in the final but not for the gold against Seto or Kalisz for example.
@@smartasfck Yeah, there's no doubt that he's better in the SC format, but remember that he's the fastest man in the world LC in both fly and free, and I believe he can hold his own against just about anybody else competing in the 200IM event in the breast and back portions. Obviously, he likely doesn't have Lochte type endurance at that distance, I'm sure if you were to match him up with Lochte at the 100 distance for every stroke, Dressel would have better times in all 4 strokes, and with some decent training behind him in that event, I think he has a very realistic chance of breaking the WR. I wouldn't bet against him!

As i already said, he can make into the top 8, but poor chance for a medal. His weakest strokes are the lowest strokes in im, thats the problem, he gonna get much more disadvantage from these 2 strokes then advantage from free and fly

You don't appear to be very familiar with the sport. This is a competition in a short course pool, aka 25m. The international standard is long course, 50m, which is what you see at the Olympics. If you want to see how ridiculously fast this man is over the water, I suggest you check out his swims from the 2019 world championship, where he broke Michael Phelps 100m butterfly world record among other incredible swims.

Obviously, he likely doesn't have Lochte type endurance at that distance, I'm sure if you were to match him up with Lochte at the 100 distance for every stroke, Dressel would have better times in all 4 strokes, and with some decent training behind him in that event, I think he has a very realistic chance of breaking the WR. I wouldn't bet against him!
@@MrVpassenheim 100 free and fly and every single event what dressel swims are about sprintig, muscles, strenght, but the 200/400 im is a very different thing believe me. As i already said, he can make into the top 8, but poor chance for a medal. His weakest strokes are the lowest strokes in im, thats the problem, he gonna get much more disadvantage from these 2 strokes then advantage from free and fly

You don't appear to be very familiar with the sport. This is a competition in a short course pool, aka 25m. The international standard is long course, 50m, which is what you see at the Olympics.
If you want to see how ridiculously fast this man is over the water, I suggest you check out his swims from the 2019 world championship, where he broke Michael Phelps 100m butterfly world record among other incredible swims.
Yeah it's silly they are allowed to dive that much in the small pool.
Luckily these distances are not used in the Olympics and such
