One thing I've found that gets me around my local newspaper's pay wall (which looks a lot like the KC Star's page) is to set my VPN to a foreign location (like Hong Kong). They don't seem to mind if foreigners read the paper for free.

Actually Hong Kong may be special as it's the freest "part of China" (even though I still see it somewhat independent per five-decade agreement since '97). Maybe you're 'exploiting' some goodwill there.
Or it could just be they assume Hong Kongers don't understand English somehow.

@@dra6o0n adblockers, removing pay Walls. How do you think will they be able to work in future? Are they supposed to work for free, from underneath a bridge? Why is everyone allowed to make a living, but Websites get their income taken away and its totally accepted? I had a Website running with several thousand users daily. I developed several calculators. When I realised that over 85% had adblockers and I made arround 80.- minus 30.- for the Server monthly and 30.- Domain costs per year (48.- profit per month). Wo 48.- for 50'000 people using my tools? Bye bye. They can look for another idi*t that develops free stuf.
I learned alot and always worked fulltime as developer making a very good salary. Now my hourly pay is 200 Euros. Of course I only get a fraction of that, but 1.2h of work now equals to about a month income for providing 50k people service.
And I didnt placce hundreds of ads on the page. One on the right side and one between the calculators. Not inside the calculator on the "calculate" Button, nor these annoying anchor ads thst move with the scrolling.

this is something i usually achieved with pressing F11 when they put a popup over things, since i have "no money", a paywall is just a waste of bandwidth on their part.
i don't use an ad blocker, i just have "noscript" and a list of "blacklisted sites" and keep the browser on "do not track" so normal sites can have ads but sources that are not trusted and the external sites they communicate to are blocked. (seeing an ad from a trusted source is fine but random ones are to be assumed virus laced.)

I use "Reader View" especially to copy and paste to sent to others. It's not 'naughty' like the better known extensions you feature, but once you're in the pilot's seat, unfettered, you often come across some great articles, but some, like one famous 'pink' business daily of exceptional quality, render without format, and it becomes almost illegible. "Reader View'" cleans that all up, and makes it look like a report, w/o anything else (even some pics, which can be copy and pasted back in if need be) to send off to others.

I've been using HTML viewers to bypass paywalls for years. Some sites don't work so I cut the javascript out from the html and the article is visible. Getting extensions could be a security concern and it makes it easy for them to track you. Also some sites can detect these extensions and therefore are capable of making you disable these extensions. Either way most of these sites have nothing but a bunch of propaganda and the sites that I like usually give free content so I normally avoid the trouble of getting these extensions. To each their own however.

Yup, that's why I use an adblocker on UA-cam. Watching 2 minuts of content, then 1 minut of ads, 2 minuts of content, and so on. That's just not for me.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion. Do you have any recommendations of how to do something like this using either an advanced firewall or proxy server? That way for devices that wouldn't support this method you could still benefit the add blocking. Would be awesome if pi-hole would add this functionally.

I'll, try to find an alternative website when faced with a paywall. Might as well deny them my time.

Hey Chris, your videos on win 10, 11 & debloat were extremely helpful for my current optimized laptop usage. Thanks for further democratizing the internet through this video. Can you consider my request to come up with similar solutions to Academic Journals? Sci-Hub isn't of much use for majority of journals. Especially recent one's.......!

Hey Chris, thank you so much for sharing "Bypass paywalls" video. With your help, I am able to view and read HBR (Harvard Business Review) articles in my laptop! I appreciate the time you've taken to prepare this video. And guess what? You've earned yourself a like and subscription!
To everyone else: I'm excited to know whether this video helped you, and what publications (and why) do you read from. Thanks!
