Jimmy, I think I mentioned this in another video, but I’ll mention it again. I looked at this airplane (and was very serious about buying it) in around October of 2020. With stuff still brewing at work surrounding covid and whatnot it just was the wrong time to jump into a big awesome plane project. I would’ve loved to polish this thing redo the avionics and get it back in the air regularly. It’s awesome to see that you’ve made that dream a reality for me and I’m sure Clint is happy about it too.
Jimmy, love the 310. My late father had a '56 310 just like yours. Has the original Continental O-470-M with pressure carbs. Thankfully, parts are still available for the -M engines as they are very reliable. Dad flew all over the US and also to Mexico City (mid 70's), but mostly from NJ to Sebastian, FL every winter. A great airplane. Can't wait for you to finish yours. Tom in NJ
This is eye opening. As a common man, I can only watch you fly. It's always interesting and much cheaper. I can see why in the 80's and 90's our local airport was building hangers and extending the run way. To just a ghost town now.
Or for testing ELTs, we had a faraday cage to work on them. So satisfying to certify them by smacking them on the bench to hear the tone on the bench radio.
Great presentation…yes owning a bird is expensive..owning a twin more than twice as expensive….however.. a twin like a 310 is a really fun and fast pleasure.
Watching this video I realized why I don't own a plane. Flying commercial is a pain but for $92,000 I can tolerate it. If that's your hobby and you can afford it enjoy. It certainly doesn't hurt anyone.

I wonder about some of his numbers... 1. Does $5000 to get home from CA include repairs/annual to fly it? 2. $27000 in electronics is a fair number but its an improvement/upgrade that might not have been required to spend. It does enhance value. 3. $11000 fuel for flight is just a cost of flying and does not enhance the value of the airplane. Same for hangar expense. Ordinary cost of ownership and arguably preserves value but does not enhance it. For example the plane wont sell for more because he hangared it, put fuel in it or because he flew it home from Ca. Just sayin!!! Still I'd think decent deal and doesnt need to be painted lemon yellow
I was delivering some packages after hours to a small airport in Auburn Indiana on Wednesday June 28th and spent some time talking to a local pilot and mechanic. While shooting the breeze the pilot said see that beautiful bird there "about 30 ft from where I stood" I said ya it's very nice, he says I don't know how it's not in the Smithsonian because your looking at Citation jet number one. I forgot the tail number but I will be that way again soon and I'll reply to this comment. Had to share thought that was so cool to see.

I'm not claiming it is the jet, the guy I talked to just seemed honest and had alot to say about it. Very nice for sure! To someone who knows basically nothing about these things, it looks like the luxurious sports car of the jet world. This has nothing to do with the jet but the same guy that owns sweetwater owns that little airport in Auburn also the old Smith field off Ludwig road in Fort Wayne. I really love that Jimmy is saying a blessing over the food before they eat it and that the mechanic took his hat off when he sat down I did not know that about Jimmy but I love it that he loves Jesus
So, the fuel oil insurance and hanger would apply no matter what airplane, so you are ahead because of the original purchase price. BTW you should see the transformation of the house where you bought the electric car! Blue side up!
6:48 So … $ 92,500 ? That’s a lotta clams! But doesn’t the linguine of life always taste better that way??? I flew around Oshawa, Toronto, Downsview, Peterborough, about 20 years ago in a 310 a lot like that one (although I gotta admit your silver streak is really cool) with a instrument-multi-commercial friend and I loved it. Fast, but not too hard to keep ahead of during an IFR flight. Complex, but not too complicated. What a nice plane! Thanks for the video.
I had a 310 back in 2004, traded a 1954 bonanza for it, never should have got rid of the bonanza. Flew it about 100 hours in 3 months and sold it! Way to expensive to run.

Jimmy I have a 1980 182 with O 470 U just overhauled in 2020 it was leaking oil from the joint between the cylinder and case. We didn’t find where the oil was coming from until it was overhauled. The engine was previously overhauls in 1995 and had 1500 hours. In the 2020 overhaul they indicated they saw fretting on the case on a few cylinders. the guess was the nuts were backing off. I was leaking oil back on the case but it was only happening in flight and I first replaced the push rod tube gaskets on the cylinders we were seeing the leak under. Obviously that didn’t help. You can't do an honest test on airline food while you are on the ground. Physically, your sense of taste and smell change at lower air ptessure. IIRC an airline cabin is pressurized to match a 10,000 foot altitude? And much drier air. So the meal companies actually change their recipes, to compensate for this. They are actually NOT intended to be eaten on the ground. FWIW.
I owned a Seneca 2, later just starting to rent planes. Maintenance is expensive on all the toys even homes. I started renting boats, jet skiis, etc., later in life as tired of maintenance.
But can you really take into account fuel and oil as everything, car, bike, boat or aircraft you have to buy fuel and oil. You don't cost in consumables like fuel etc in my opinion.

In aviation, boating and Italian sports cars circles, there's a saying, the two happiest days of your life are the day you buy your first secondhand plane/boat/Ital sports car, only to be surpassed in happiness by the day you sell it.
But adding cost of gas for flying is an operating cost, which should be seperate from acquisition / refurbishment. Add same cost of gas and oil to the acquisition cost of a good running example, which you pegged as $75k, and your cost doesn't look AS awful....
