  • We've just added a new video tutorial by Dan Worrall. This time he explains the fundamentals of EQ'ing in a mixing situation, starting with the basic shelf, cut and bell shapes as found on a hardware console, to precision EQ'ing using a modern plug-in like FabFilter Pro-Q 2.

Pretty good guide. I'd say add in 1-2khz for piercing on certain female vocals.

I just can't leave this Video without shouting out LOUD at Dan for this massively informative BEGINNERS Guide :)
This is by far the BEST Tutorial explaining all about EQ + CIRCULAR MIXING Mistakes + Masking Frequencies so clearly.... Will watch this again & again to refresh in future.... God Bless you for all the efforts in putting this piece of Gold together !!! Cheers.. :)

Between this and Part Two, you have given me a methodology I never had before. I began applying it to remix older material I had not been happy with, and the difference, to use a cliche, is like night-to-day in distinction between instruments, clarity, and depth. Instead of poking about vaguely and blindly referring to online EQ charts, you have given me a process and, with it, confidence to arrive at more pleasurably listenable mixes. Thank you, Dan!!! You make beautiful tutorials.

I would love to see a video just like this about compression. I want Dan to do it just like this video where he actually starts off with some hardware, and then translates the same techniques to the software.

Thank you. I enjoyed this both for it's educational value to me and Dan's delivery. A perfect friendly non-patronising voice helps so much in my opinion. Often presenters try far too hard to impart their personality over the real goal or over exaggerate the product. Dan's balance of detail explanation is just right for me and he is a real asset to FabFilter's support channels. More please. :-)

One of the best ear training exercises I’ve had is live mixing, in a setup without a PFL option (soloing on a reference speaker to avoid interrupting the mix). It forces you to *always* mix within the context of the mix.

Please keep making these. Like said below we need one by you with the C pro 2. I know that all the features do but I want to see someone else use it. Thats what noobs like me need.

Okay, I've become hooked on this FabUlous series of tutorials. This is some of the most valuable content I've discovered in quite a while. Dan is utterly brilliant, so it came as a very pleasant non-surprise when I saw he's using REAPER. Of course he's using the most innovative and flexible piece of software I've ever encountered. It sets the bar for all software developers in so many ways. It should be studied as part of every computer/software engineering curriculum. Of course someone as talented and intelligent as Dan is going to gravitate toward something as revolutionary as REAPER. Well done all around, Dan, and much thanks to you for another amazing tutorial. I'm not going to be getting much sleep for quite a while. My eyes are already getting hazy. I love it!
