I first heard this song in 1978 when my dad got a bootleg copy of Halloween (horror movie) and my dad actually said he liked that song when it came out. To me I thought that’s weird coming from a man who loved Elvis and Frank Sinatra 🤣. I asked him if he would buy me the single for my birthday which was a few months away, he said aye (yes) son. So he asked me to do the dishes and if I did he would give me a surprise. So I did and he gave me the single. I still have it to this day. RIP dad!

At one point they caught a lot of shit about this song being about suicide. They tried to reframe it as like some sort of pacty and his wife made or whatever nonsense it was but the bottom line is... It's a grim scenario wrapped in a killer song.
