The heat blanket? Or shield? Neither are needed. A new exhaust or heat wrap blanket will always smoke on start up, especially if not wiped down after install.

The smoke is residual oil from install. Goes away after fist heat cycle.

That’s normal. You should contact their customer support if you have a problem instead of trying to get it in the comments
