@FrankieJames7 Yes, north of alaska, there is such a place:) There are colder places outside of the USA, like Canada, spent time in Alert and about 15 other places in the arctic - canadian arctic, no trees.
@FrankaDith well i should have kept it going after the first start - but i was slow on the choke. 16 pulls at minus 26 is good, many electric starts have trouble at that temp, some machines dont even have a pullcord now - imagine when the battery dies:)
@FrankieJames7 The record for the coldest recorded temperature in North America is held by a tiny locale in the Yukon, at-81.4° Fahrenheit (-63° Celsius). Snag, 30 kms east of the Alaska-Yukon border and 25 kms north of the Alaska Highway had an aviation connection when the record was set on 3 February 1947.
@FrankaDith lol, ya i know frank, not used to that! It's hard to pull because of the outside temp, watch the skandic and vk540 cold start videos - same thing - the first pull is very hard, everything is frozen stiff. Next time I'll do the boiling water trick to show how cold it is:)
Hey fellas, I'm pretty sure that if we all lived in the same area we'd be out sledding together. You guys come out with me and try my mods out for the day and you'll get along just fine, sledders stick together!
I posted a video response of my XLT for a cold start sound clip. Just got it and did a few things to it before the video but hopefully a lot more things to come! Not bad for 100 bucks
@slhobie Hahahaha first time i give you a hard time ,damn it was fun your a good sport ya Louis i know at that temp.the gas isn't firing like it should ,but one thing i did notice is how hard it was to pull like it had way to much compression is the pull cord on that thing wraped around a small spool is your spool almost empty?it really pull hard ,the pipes? no.
@lshobie north of alaska? my town...exactly in the middle...is one of the coldest in the country...-61 F it got here...while barrow...was only -30 F...
That's like 10.8° F right? It was 10° F at my place this morning. Not too cold, still go outside and split some wood in just my boxers and slippers. :D
@lshobie - - - If you were closer, I'd be all over that offer like white on rice. I'm only 70 miles from Alberta and BC. But you're waaaay farther than that! Hahaha
@lshobie - - - No problem, I stop fetching wood in my skives when it hits -20° F. Hahaha Coldest I've been in is -78° F (with windchill) alpine skiing. The human body isn't built for that cold -- lucky I didn't snap a leg -- and only had a zipper freeze to my chin.
Not all yamaha triples were reliable! But I do agree a friend of mine owned a viper and racked over 20000kms on the original motor. But it was a turd! Very slow! They got rid of the srx for the viper and rx-1 they couldnt have a triple beating their new four stroke technology down the lake lmao.
Austin Schlichting they start like a bitch because they're the biggest pieces of shit a person can buy, my sled has efi and starts every time on the second pull no matter how cold dumbfuck
@FrankieJames7 Yes, north of alaska, there is such a place:) There are colder places outside of the USA, like Canada, spent time in Alert and about 15 other places in the arctic - canadian arctic, no trees.
Hell ya xlt for the win. Mine started with in a dozen pulls at around the same temp.
@FrankaDith well i should have kept it going after the first start - but i was slow on the choke. 16 pulls at minus 26 is good, many electric starts have trouble at that temp, some machines dont even have a pullcord now - imagine when the battery dies:)

i love the sound!

Well mine don’t pull start that easy. It’s like it has 500lbs compression at that temperature.
Lol love the old trapper hat. Looks great.
@FRUNTCASTER Sounds good! We always have room at the camp for more!
such a nice sled
god that thing sounds sick
I love my hat - very warm!
Make sure you do or.............BOOOM! The idle circuit is one thing but full speed is where you might lean out.
Hey fellas, I'm pretty sure that if we all lived in the same area we'd be out sledding together. You guys come out with me and try my mods out for the day and you'll get along just fine, sledders stick together!
@Kelkkaileva ya i know but a pain running a primer and primer line and nipples/t's to the carbs - lose a line and burn a piston.
cool, i'll check it out!
@FrankaDith it has a choke, works very well.
Jeez, I just got my new 95 XLT special running after it sat 5 years, and it starts in 3-4 pulls and I haven't even pulled the carbs yet!
@FrankieJames7 lol, ok Frank! I've done my arctic time and most of it was north of alaska - and know all about cold starts from sleds to planes:)
@Viper7256 ya its coming off - weighs too much anyway.
I posted a video response of my XLT for a cold start sound clip. Just got it and did a few things to it before the video but hopefully a lot more things to come! Not bad for 100 bucks
make sure the carbs are cleaned and check plugs.
@jesse12296 lol, You ever start a sled in minus 26? :) you pull as many times as needed:)
is that the klim klimate bib and jacket i see there?
I'm going to this summer just to be safe, the snow is pretty much gone here, so I'm just going to ride it a little. It runs great though.
@slhobie Hahahaha first time i give you a hard time ,damn it was fun your a good sport ya Louis i know at that temp.the gas isn't firing like it should ,but one thing i did notice is how hard it was to pull like it had way to much compression is the pull cord on that thing wraped around a small spool is your spool almost empty?it really pull hard ,the pipes? no.
Thanks for watching!
LOVE THAT HAT SKEBO!
broke my pull cord on a day like this
Was so surprised by my yamaha MM -00. was 27- c. and it started in one pull. Didn't felt right, must be something wrong with it? Kappa
@lshobie north of alaska? my town...exactly in the middle...is one of the coldest in the country...-61 F it got here...while barrow...was only -30 F...
that sled looks so sick from the back but then the front is just ugly hahah but still nice.. great vids man
Not anywhere near your temperature range that'll have to wait a couple more months. It was about 35 degrees at the time. Thanks!
Must have been the slippers !! LMAO!
@FrankieJames7 That's cold! Siberia is colder!
@FRUNTCASTER that's about minus 15F, come on out and split wood at my camp in that temp:)
how do you keep the triples from blowing up?
Toughest engine out there. Very reliable. Specially the 600-670 and the 680
who doesnt make you laugh is my question to you
what do you mean keep them? the yamaha redhead triple is thee most reliable 2 stroke triple ever!
no probs
That's like 10.8° F right? It was 10° F at my place this morning. Not too cold, still go outside and split some wood in just my boxers and slippers. :D
@ryanxcr800 what are you smoking?
I love my XLT, but it really doesn't like cold starts.
@lshobie i doubt places in canada get colder then -63
urs fires up in 10 pulls better then mine i hate pulling it over
check your compression
@lshobie Tanana's lowest recorded temp was -75
@slhobie Don't know ,16 pulls is a workout ,id get electric start ,i'm lazy like that : P
What can???
@lshobie - - - If you were closer, I'd be all over that offer like white on rice. I'm only 70 miles from Alberta and BC. But you're waaaay farther than that! Hahaha
No primer ? that thing will pull your arm off.
@lshobie - - - No problem, I stop fetching wood in my skives when it hits -20° F. Hahaha

i guess im not the only one who takes 3 minutes to start my vmax but my mx starts 2 pull
Not all yamaha triples were reliable! But I do agree a friend of mine owned a viper and racked over 20000kms on the original motor. But it was a turd! Very slow! They got rid of the srx for the viper and rx-1 they couldnt have a triple beating their new four stroke technology down the lake lmao.
i need a new sleigh
lol, custom swiss cheese flap.
Don't u guys know cold gas fires and burns better see race car drivers run gas thru coolers for better ignition
maybe tommorrow
i dont think that mud flap does much..... haha!!
I would end Just killing my XLT. I would Freak if i had to pull that many times
@lshobie Haha Nope. Hopefuly I don't Have to. But I know Since i said that Then It will probably happen to me.
sober up
you know it's a shitty sled when it doesn't start within 3 pulls no matter how cold it is.
Owen Peichel you have never started a triple there a bitch to start in the cold you probably have a electric start sled so you don't have to pull it
Austin Schlichting they start like a bitch because they're the biggest pieces of shit a person can buy, my sled has efi and starts every time on the second pull no matter how cold dumbfuck
Owen Peichel ive seen brand new ski doos not start easy in really cold amd even the pull cord gets super hard to pull
Most manufacturers recommend not starting below -10F or get a sled designed for cold winters.
you south guys are weak...i got to -63 F in alaska...thats a cold start...compared to this weak stuff its practically warmed up :D
