      My thoughts exactly...I can just see the kids across the street coming over and making the single biggest mistake you can make on any propeller driven engine and that is to stand in the perpendicular to the arc of the propeller ....you have absolutely no idea the structural integrity of the blades unless every inch of the blades have been magna fluxed...if one of those old blades has a stress crack and that blade lets go any kid in the arc of that blade just had his or her head taken off and I would own this guys house once we start the law suit. there is a place for doing this and it sure as hell ain't your front yard.

      Sure do!
      I used to fly DC-7s many years ago, one of my favorite things about it was listening to the big piston engines starting up.
      They had Wright R-3350s, 18 cylinders (2 rows of 9) and would produce 3400 HP for takeoff. There's no sound anywhere quite like the deep throaty rumble of these engines.

      If you're talking about the first shot, the engine actually is turning, because its connected directly with the propeller! It's a rotary engine, (not to be confused with radial) used during the first world war.

    Something that many of these video have in common, too narrow shutter angle on the camera! This creates the motion artifacts of the propeller blade stationary or turning slowly. Pro tip, use an ND filter on the lens, then use a much larger shuttle angle/slower shutter speed. This will create enough motion blue to reduce the artifact.

    • @Tomyironmane
      @Tomyironmane 3 роки тому +2

      mostly the early ones. That's the difference between a rotary (spinny engine) and radial (fixed engine). Rotary was an early attempt to deal with the hideous vibration issues that were part and parcel of running a radial engine... though this apparently made trying to put a throttle on one absolute hell. It took the development of new engine mounting techniques to make radial engines, long desired for having an innate ease of air cooling, light weight, and a very short crankshaft, practical. And you still have to wire all the bolts in to keep them from shaking themselves apart.

    • @cbmech2563
      @cbmech2563 2 роки тому

      Rhone rotary. The crankshaft was bolted to the airframe and the propeller was bolted to the crankcase. They had to be rebuilt every 25 hours.
