  • This 6G72 crank was professionally dynamically balanced in the past but for Pauter conrods (they're now in my 74 / 72 stroker ) instead of the Maxspeeding rods (555g) that are going into it. I've taken note of the sizes and positions of the extra holes. From that it should be perfectly balanced but at some unknown bobweight mass. The Pauter rods are (623.9g according to Pauter and 619g according to 3sx) about 70g heavier. Heavier at both ends too.
I've got the bobweights down to 409g for each half so about 818g for each journal. I've got more weight to remove then I can find out what bobweight was used for the last balance job and therefore the balance factor they used for it. The first spin (650 rpm) was with magnets on the counterweights, the second spin with them removed. Each pile of magnets is about 10g but only about 30g in total. The vibration was worse second time. That means I need to reduce the mass of each bobweight to get good balance. Going over this afterwards, weighing all of the parts, if a 50% balance factor was used, it'll balance correctly with 803g bobweights, if the correct 44% balance factor was used it'll balance with 768g bobweights.
The 3 piles of magnets I removed. About 10g each pile but at a greater radius from the axis. So in equivalent bobweight instead of an extra 30g total, more like 120g total or 20g per bobweight.
Next test is to reduce boweight to 780 ish g
