- So...it sounds insane. Hyundai Elantra N with a downpipe is basically the perfect exhaust. It's loud in N mode but as soon as you go into normal its great for a daily driver.

You cant really tell by the audio but I think its at least 50% louder. Even the gpf delete on the gpf models does a big big difference.
Definitely check out the AFE Takeda non resonated mid pipe exhaust system. It definitely makes the N mode sound incredibly bigger/louder!
some people like letting the cops know they're speeding before they even see them.

Thanks for all the tips and DIY install. Trying to not break or strip studs and figuring out how to maneuver down pipes or headers out of cars are my least favorite things to tackle. Glad you guys figured it out and despite it taking longer than you anticipated, you got it done. It sounds amazing!

Yeah that's basically what it sounds like. The best thing is that it is straight up like no different in the quiet modes - best of both worlds.

Love the elenrta n and will be purchasing the 2024 facelift version spring/summer of 2024. The stock exhaust sounds just fine, gives it a deep tone and doesn't sound like a fart cannon. All of the videos i have seen of resonator deletes or downpipes for this car make it sound like a fart cannon. the stock exhaust is just fine.

Great video! All the videos you produce are great. Been watching the Civic Si videos too. Interesting how the downpipe goes straight to the exhaust side of the turbo. I know on the SRT-4 Neon there's what we call an '02 housing AKA turbo elbow that's a small piece that connects the exhaust side of the turbo and then the downpipe connects to that. But it looks like this is just one big piece, which is good ..one less area for potential exhaust leaks. To me it's not worth it unless you plan on taking the factory turbo to its limit. Looks like the OEM piece is a good solid piece and flows well. Cars sounds amazing with the new DP though.

Good video, kinda glad I was not the only person who had some trouble getting the old DP out. took me about 3-4 hours to get it out, if you notice the Veloster does not have the metal bracket that our EN's have which gives it way more room. I did not take out that engine fire wall, but it definitely was something I was gonna try to take out but just by pushing the engine around enough I got the new DP in without having to do that. SXTH also does have instructions for it, which cleared up some issues for me, but its not on the website yet. I also put on the titanium turbo studs and if anyone else decides to do this I recommend being VERY careful, we ended up having to tap one stud hole. Car sounds amazing though, definitely worth all of the work
Any tips on the mounting hardware from the downpipe? I literally had the bottom back but just not want to budge at a certain point! Shop was closing so I put everything back together.
Found ways to have a straight flow-through exhaust system but having it much quieter than the original factory exhaust and having have better performance without attracting cops. It's nice to be able to hear the music in the car without having it too loud.

Thanks for this gentlemen!! Very informative video. I'm still on the fence about touching the exhaust system on my N because I really enjoy how quiet I can make the car on demand. After driving a Isis Catback tuned 2.0T Genesis previously quiet wasn't on the menu! LOL
But when I want more power there is no getting around the sound. Thanks again for this though guys. We appreciate it!
Honestly, in normal mode it's still near stock which is fantastic. N mode just opens it up a bunch, I'd still consider it even if you aren't a fan of increased noise!

Love the video! My turbo nuts and studs were really big pain, got 3/4 to come off but one would not budge didnt want to risk it and our shop was closing up so i reinstalled everything. You mentioned WD40-ing the nuts and studs and driving it around for it to get hot? Does that help loosen them?
It sounds so much like my straight piped big turbo Cobalt SS with a resonator it's scary. The Cobalt SS has a pretty unique sound for a four cylinder, well,,, I guess it use to. Would sure like to hear yours in person because video rarely does them any justice, only two videos that I've found. Stay safe and God bless

I enjoyed your video. I own the same elantran, but I have a downpipe working too. I have a question. I know there are 4 nuts in total that are attached to the stud bolt. I saw the top nut loosening, how did you release the bottom bolt?
I have the "AFE Takeda" non resonated mid pipe on my Elantra N and it sounds INCREDIBLE in "N mode". Bigger/louder/more POPS AND BANGS! Eco/normal mode back to dead quite again for when you don't want attention. Its perfect!
will the takeda midpipes fit cleanly with the stock axle back and sxth dp?
@@palombus4xe577 idk about the down pipe... But everything fits 100% with the stock Axle back exhaust. Mide pipe is just a mide pipe.. but it makes the N mode sounds sooo much better! Sounds incredible!

hey man I loved the video. What would be your opinion on the shark racing catless downpipe vs the one in the video?
So, I haven't seen it in person, but my quick thoughts based on the pictures and description is that it's an inferior piece. Firstly, it does not replace the whole downpipe, just the upper pipe containing the cat. Secondly, it does not contain an 02 sensor spacer meaning even with the catted version you will almost guaranteed eventually get a CEL for post cat 02. Thirdly, I have never in my life heard of the company that makes that cat - meaning, it's probably a cheap knock-off that's prone to breaking apart with heat/pressure fluctuations. Personally I'd skip it, especially when the install is this much of a pain. Buy once, cry once.
What size was the socket to take off the o2 sensor on top. You didn’t say in the video.

Great video! Can’t wait to get an EN! In the meantime I bought a used 2017 Elantra Sport. It had 65k miles on it. No pops and bangs from the exhaust. I back in 2018 I test drove a new 2018 Elantra Sport and new stock it had pops and bang. Does anyone know if the tune or something else is different between the 2017 and 2018? I’m trying to figure out why my car doesn’t have any.

I did. I elected to go back to the stock intake before SXTH releases their "intake lite" which was teased yesterday. Basically, the engine bay looks 100% stock which adds to the "lol" factor when people come and see how a car that looks like a salmon just flew by them on track.

Do you guys have any numbers (HP/torque increases) or curves (any loss of low-end)? The SXTH website doesn't have any information about expected performance gains.
i want an elantra N soooo bad, the dct version for those sweet braps after each shift, i have a 10th gen civic Si rn...my downpipe is 100 times easier than the N cause its right there when you open the hood but of course the turbo inlet is right above it but easy removal, sounds amazing and im surprised the exhaust modes still work

In my opinion, this car came from the factory with performance in mind. (Definitely not looks). The stock downpipe that is fitted on the car is perfectly fine. There is really no need to mod a car just for the sake of modding. Younger people you'll eventually learned that after thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars.
Car is perfect the way it is performance-wise.
You want to put some aftermarket lightweight Wheels and throw on some aesthetic pieces then please go ahead.
The one thing the car does not need is to be louder, especially if it means adding some aftermarket piece that may or may not hold up, and may or may not void your warranty.
in this i cannot see the itner cooler and the air intake and the ecu and the new wheels that u had installed previously? is this video old?

tuned with other mods will bump you to stage 2 thats about as significant as its gets before you upgrade the turbo.

man i was doing the exact same install and all 4 turbo studs broke. i have been a month without my EN and i was hoping the sounds was gonna be worth it after the install is finished. really surprised me and it sounds great, cant wait till mine is finished this week!

When I did my catless downpipe it took me about 12 hours of work because of those turbo studs. It was the biggest headache ever. I had to rethread it and everything

It's a bit deeper but more drone. Hard to say if that was worth it.
It might have been easier if you dropped the subframe, it's a few extra steps but saves a headache and busted knuckles

I'm really surprised that the downpipe isn't V banded like the 2.5T sonata N line is! If there was a V banded complete exhaust from downpipe and then the whole exhaust would make life better!?

I think they're complying with emissions now so they may be done producing downpipes :(

How the hell did you guys get the nut off the stock down pipe. The left nut on the first section for the stock down pipe is in such a weird angle and man I can not get that sucker off. The one I am talking about is the ones you're taking off at 7:00 in the video. I have an angle socket but man the angle is still so weird that it won't really turn. Its put my whole car on hold for the last 24 hours lol gonna give it a go again once I am off work lol I even tried using Aero Croil for it and still that thing is on there like a m'fer. I keep watching your video back at 7:00 to see if I can kinda mimic the angle you approach it at. This stupid nut is the only thing stopping me at the moment I have every else off, even got the turbo studs loosened with no problem just that left nut on the first section of the stock d pipe is pissing me off so much.
finally fuckin got it lmao, im installing this down pipe by myself, w/ no lift on 6 jack stands and two jacks. lmao the extra jack and 2 jack stands are for safety or well as much safety as i can get. I have my gf who every 15 min comes and checks on me in the garage to make sure im not a dead pancake lmao all seriousness tho for my situation super tough install having a lift would be a god send my core, abs and back muscles are getting ripped from the movements i have to make get out and under the car lmao

It's functional but sometimes exhaust flow acts a bit odd, I'm not an engineer but it is for sure not a fake tip
Hows the smell on coldstarts on 200cel cats? My previous mazdaspeed3 was catless and im done with the smell lmfaoo.
I cannot smell anything to be honest. That might say more about my nose than anything, but it also passes the girlfriend test. I think the real difference there is they used an actual real cat, unless 99%+ of the aftermarket "racing" cats.

how much would it cost to have this one done for me you think, I dont have a hoist and that looks like all no from here doing it on the ground
I will say that it definitely would be near impossible to do on the ground. Sticking your hand upside down just wouldn't really work. Not sure the cost, it would take a mechanic probably 6-10 hours, not sure what rates are like
Book time on this job is probably like ~4 hours. I'd estimate $350-600 depending on your area. If you're local I can do it haha.

No he took it off because he wanted a more stock looking engine bay for weird Will reasons. Wheels are in storage, for Michigan we don't drive our nice cars in the salt so the stock wheels are for storage purposes.

We did actually try to get it from the top, the clearance was just a tiny bit off.
Nothing beats stock exhaust, the engineers who perfectly designed this vehicle knew what they were doing from the start. Compared to a waste of time with a mod exhaust that not engineered right to do anything.
Except this makes around +20whp more, but yeah lol

Ehhhhhhh, you can for sure do it but make sure you've got the jack stands literally as high as they can possibly go. It'll be tight though, not 100% sure
How much was the shipping for the catless down pipe?
They don’t sell this anymore. Shark racing has a catless for free shipping if in region 1 485$ and a race cat option for 675$

Holy shit that was a mission lmao Did by myself with no lift my god that was tough af but I got it done lol So funny every nut or bolt that you guys got off easy in your video mine were like close to seized on. it took me 2 1/2 hours to get the left nut off the stock down pipe first piece it was on there like a bitch. Anyone thinking about do this mod it can be done with out a lift but i wouldnt advise after all the work which accumulated to around 23 actual working hours and 3 day all together its worth the money to pay someone to do it. Or if you have access to a lift that would have help tremendously also of course.

There was some guy in Northern California that got a ticket in his N as the cops said its too loud in its stock version. He got a $7000 fine, and the registration on his car was canceled so he could not drive it till it could be made to comply with state noise regulations
