    What a very refreshing and objective review of this, at first sight, E-bike which seemed to fit the criteria of just what I wanted. Being somewhat older and slighter than your good self, your comments on the massiveness of this beast has brought me to my senses. Thank you very much.

    Very interesting and informative video. Thanks a lot!
    Did some research myself over the last couple of months and also got the opportunity to speak to a fellow caravanner who owned the same model as the one you tested but in a very attractive orange! I came to the same conclusion that this particular ebike wasn’t for me! Definitely need something much lighter and smaller when it’s folded. I look forward to viewing any ebike follow ups you do. Thanks once again. Martin

    Great video Dan, thinking about an electric bike for for my wife for when we are off with the caravan, fantastic range with the battery, just too darn big and chunky, would be good to see others that that are available. 👍👍

    You can carry E MTB's on your caravan with either an A frame bike rack or one on the back wall if mounts are fitted. We were carrying 4 on our Swift 645 for a while. Without batteries ours were 20kg. Now mounted over the tray of our Ranger as we always had to drive to tracks, so still had to carry a towball rack anyway.

      Hi there, - a quick one - the rear bike rack as fitted to Swift caravans (Thule Elite G2) has a maximum weight limit of 60Kg, so - double check you're within the limit of your 4 MTBs on the rear.
      As for adding 60Kg to the far rear extremities of the caravan - i'd rather not. I certainly wouldn't store an awning of half that weight at the rear of the caravan. But youre twin axle may be different. Also, Our A frame is way too short to add a bike carrier onto it too. For any significant turning, it would collide with the car, the same can be said for a book lid mount too.
      You mention Ranger, is the the Ford Ranger? i'd be really interested to hear how you get on with that car - its been in my sights for a while now, i really like the look of them
      Thanks for teh comments
      Dan

      @@TheTrudgians I was unclear - only 2 MTBs on the back, and 2 MTBs on the front. Balanced perfectly. We are a 2 ton plated 645.

    Like it but like you say think the Mirider would be a better option due to weight and size

  • @toddy505
    @toddy505 Рік тому

    i think it looks fantastic and would love one, due to its size it seems pointless to fold it and as you say no good for touring with family due to the bulk

  • @843thebear

    With a 250kw ebike you can legally freewheel down a hill at over 30mph, but up a steep hill you'll be down to signal figures. Someone who is disabled might not be able to pedal up a steep hill and so they would need a bigger motor, to help them cycle up it, but they aren't allowed to have one. I think the top assisted speed should be regulated but not the motor size.

    You say you would put hydraulic brakes on this bike and i was looking to do the same, could you recommend a kit for me please.

    I was in wales last week and the couple next to me had motor home with built in bike rack.
    Unfortunately they put the two electric bikes on it and cracked the back panel due to weight 🙈

    Excellent vlog Dan ( as ever) but as the owner of a Touareg myself I wouldn’t want to be lifting one , never mind two into the back .
    Also even though the Touareg has a tow ball limit of 140kg I wouldn’t want them on A frame or any tow ball mount .
    As a matter of interest, I saw a caravan dishwasher on last weeks “Gadget Show” and it made me wonder how you’re getting on with the one you reviewed?
    Still using it or is it in that mammoth pile of “caravan stuff that was a good idea at the time”?😊
    Regards m
    Howard 👍🏻

      @TheTrudgians  Рік тому

      Hi Howard, you are 100% correct - its too big / too heavy for use while away. As for Bob, yes he is still in active duty. For a while he was at Toms house, then returned back t our caravan. We tend to use hime when we have the awning up, and when we are using the awning like a dinning room.

      Hi Dan
      Can I ask do the bikes come ready built or do you have to build them yourself. I’m interested in a e bike just to use at home, to go for a ride about with my husband, I have a problem with my leg after surgery and I don’t think I would manage to use just a normal bike so I’ve been thinking of getting a e-bike. I do like the fat tyres on that one. Keep up the good work 👍

    Great vid as usual, that is soooo heavy, I have one an urban hybrid at its 25kg
    I don’t mind the look though
    If it was lighter I would get one for a caravan and yep it would have to be folding
    Since I’ve been riding padded shorts are a must, any saddle feels great

    Is it worth nipping down the road to Hargroves or similar and exploring their range. A quick check online shows them considerably more expensive of course, but slightly more legal too?

      Thats where we bought Mrs T's hybrid from. They are really helpful - but quite pricy.

    the "e-bikes" you mention as having been in the news recently were not e-bikes as you showed here. They were of the "sur-ron" type which have no pedals and they work purely off the throttle, usually with 3kw motors and top speeds >80kph. They come under different legilsation than genuine e-bikes and to be UK road legal they would require MOT, tax, insurance, registration and a suitable licence for the user. The vast majority you might see on the roads will be used illegally, including those recent cases that were in the headlines. A better description of them would be e-motorbikes, I reckon.

    As you say, it's far too heavy for a camper and there's no way that we could fit it in the back. I'll keep looking.

    250w designed to keep the electric assisted bicycle as same legal level as bicycle hence you don't need helmet etc. This type of bicycle look a like a things are electric moped might get into trouble with police. Also moped need insurance helmets etc.
