    Lyrics:
Too many shadows in my room
Too many hours in this midnight
Too many corners in my mind
So much to do to set my heart right
Oh it's taking so long I could be wrong, I could be ready
Oh but if I take my heart's advice
I should assume it's still unsteady
I am in repair, I am in repair
Stood on the corner for a while
To wait for the wind to blow down on me
Hoping it takes with it my old ways
And brings some brand new luck upon me
Oh it's taking so long I could be wrong, I could be ready
Oh but if I take my heart's advice
I should assume it's still unsteady
I am in repair, I am in repair
And now I'm walking in a park
All of the birds they dance below me
Maybe when things turn green again
It will be good to say you know me
Oh it's taking so long I could be wrong, I could be ready
Oh but if I take my heart's advice
I should assume it's still unsteady
Oh, yeah I'm never really ready, Oh, yeah, I'm never really ready
I'm in repair, I'm not together but I'm getting there
I'm in repair, I'm not together but I'm getting there
I'm in repair, I'm not together but I'm getting there
I'm in repair, I'm not together but I'm getting there
I'm in repair, I'm not together but I'm getting there
I'm in repair, I'm not together but I'm getting there

I used to think John Mayer was some type of poppy songwriter that wasn't anything special, but after trying out his music I am blown away at how talented of a musician he is and the type of respect he has for the whole process.

knightimer2 Most musicians respect the process just as much. This isn't a knock on Mayer by any means. I'd be willing to bet that the vast majority of crap you here on the radio is hated by even the artists who recorded the crap. They don't have the power yet to say, "No, I'm not recording that; I'm recording THIS". John Mayer is no different. As his success has allowed him to do what he wants, his music has gotten better because he never wanted to do the poppy bubble gum crap in the first place; it's just what got him in the door. Sadly, most artists are not successful enough to reach that point.

I was teaching guitar to some young students at school in the UK about 7 or 8 years ago, and one of the students was from Texas and she said she wanted to learn a John Mayer song. I'd never heard of him and said do you mean John Mayall she said no it's Mayer. I have never looked back. He's an amazing guitarist, songwriter, singer and arranger, as people say.....old school talent in spades. Haters are simply jealous.

yeah. people have always said he seems arrogant... but i always thought it was for one, deserved, and for another, a talent and skill thats on an entirely different level... i mean, we're not really used to seeing someone who has actually put in the money, time, education, ... everything INTO his music. i mean, if we're honest, most "artists" we see out there are just screaming into a mic. its just an entirely different plane. i dont know how to describe it. ;)

The pedal they chose really anchors the entire song and makes it, to me, seem like a confession. There's a church-y sound that accompanies all of this wanting to do better, hoping things will be better, trusting they might. He's really an excellent song writer, and the amount of talent in the room is pretty impressive.

john mayer is so dorky, and awkward and funny, and even though he can be cocky, he is really good at what he does, he is really passionate about music, and is willing to really work for his music. So I respect him for that, and I love his music.

If i was to pick 1 song from John Mayer, it would be In Repair - it's gold, and how they wrote it is even better. No paid writers, just real musicians - pure, organic and raw sounds produced in a room to be released on one of the greatest albums ever made. I decided to follow music as a career, as a songwriter, I'll watch this video probably at least once or twice a month to boost my self-esteem. I have never connected more to a musician as much as I have with John Mayer, this video is inspiring to see the struggles, successes and amount of nonsense to get through to get 'that' song!

Highly disagree, he shows off his voc. ability often. Meyer has two Grammies for best male vocal performances He sings Jazz, Blues and pop. Its music that requires more then screaming at the top of your lungs. its about pitch, scales phrasing and clarity with in the KEY. like I said you have to be a musician to understand it.

John Mayer was the reason i started playing guitar. He is a musician that feels the music, He doesnt hear music, he listens. With every facial expression his face spells S-O-U-L! Thats what music is about! One love John!

Someone needs to tell John to do a react video on all his old videos and his old views on songwriting. I would love to see how he would say he has changed as a songwriter, but at the same time the way John expanded on concepts back in 2004 is still very similar to the articulate John that we have today.

i first heard this on the lowest phase of my life. i was at a roof-deck restaurant where you could suggest songs, and i asked for a john mayer song, but then he played the whole playlist. i could not describe the feeling of when i first heard the intro... then the drums... i felt like i found a piece of me i didn't know about. but what really hit me was the lyrics. the ending part where he says, 'i'm in repair. i'm not together, but i'm getting there.' dude, i almost felt like crying..... thank you john for saving so many souls.

Yes, as a musician I can say: You get the soul when you listen to this song already mastered and ready for being comercialized and/or put on air. But when you come across videos like this, you are capable of understanding whi the music is what it is when you simply take the time to enjoy. Glad to know that many people today understand why John Mayer is one of the _few_ biggest events for the contemporary music. The world is not totally lost.

This is really cool to see the songwriting process. I think the early ideas/ lyrics of this song might have either given birth to or come from ideas for Stop This Train. You can hear lyrics like "wish I was born in black and white" and "grew up colourblind". Really seems to fit with the lyrics of Stop This Train. Just goes to show how malleable a new song is to the point where you try all sorts of ideas to see which fit the best and seem the most organic. It also shows what John says all the time about no matter how many songs you've written, you always know nothing about how to write the next one. Sort of like how the beginning of writing a song involves a lot of searching.

Imagine writing an incredible song that is so powerful in the matter of less than 24 hours. I tattooed the sheet music to this on my right arm. "I'm in repair. I'm not together, but I'm getting there." For the rest of my life, that line will be there as an inspiration through some of the most difficult moments that allow me to falter, but also to rise up and be something greater.

Love the songwriting advice in here: if you go into the studio with no plan, surround yourself with as many different sounds and sources of inspiration. And when you meet up w/ other musicians, try to jam on a groove everyone likes until you turn it into an A section, and then try to find a fitting B section to go with it.
